Termdates.co.uk - word of caution

Check and double check before believing their verified dates. I've booked a holiday after looking at their published dates and it turns out they were incorrect. They've not had the courtesy of replying to my calls or emails either!

I'm not expecting any replies, this is just a word of warning.

Yup, 3 different schools, all the dates are wrong here too.

I stick with the local council site to confirm term dates.

Jason have you tried looking at the council sites rather than just guessing when the schools go back?

School holidays don't start on Sundays FYI.

BikeRunSki · 03/09/2016 07:41

What is the point of the Termdates website? Surely schools publish their term dates on their own websites?

Jason a simple phone call to our children's school and we have the correct answer. ( or even looking at a newsletter)
clearly as there are plenty of error's on your it just can't be trusted. If I had booked a trip on your wrong information, believe me I would be seeking compensation from you. I hope you have good insurance in place for the people out there who think your site is accurate.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/09/2016 07:42

and it's wrong for my dds school.

Welcome to mn user1472884713

What an interesting first post.

SolomanDaisy · 03/09/2016 07:44

Oh a new user who feels so passionate about the term dates site that they joined Mumsnet specifically to tell us so. Right at the same time as the site owner is ask posting from the app.

Chickydoo · 03/09/2016 07:45

user1472884713 how ridiculous! Hello Jason Biscuit

Crispsheets · 03/09/2016 07:47

Well this has backfired Jason, hasn't it Grin
All LEAs publish the term dates. As a parent, if I was booking a holiday, I would always double check with the school first.
Your business is a bit pointless and clearly inaccurate.

NNChangeAgain · 03/09/2016 07:47

Alot of small primary Schools do not actually have a website

Jason, you know schools have to have a website don't you? It's written into statute.

Can I suggest you consider volunteering as a school governor? It would provide you with an insight into how schools operate and assist you in designing your services to them.

They are incorrect for my DS's school which says verified - a week out next Easter amongst other errors.

Hulababy · 03/09/2016 07:50

We are in Sheffield.

Dates for my school are correct at first glance bough don't include inset days so children may be tempted to come to school too early.

Dates for dd's independent school are incorrect. February half term is wrong for example.

I'd never heard of this business before, and tbh, I don't really understand the point of it. I've always just checked on the school website for term dates - why would anyone do otherwise? And even if schools don't have a website (are there schools without a basic website these days? Shock), presumably they provide parents with a list of term dates on paper, no?

Anyway, out of interest, I checked the dates on the termdates.co.uk website for dd's school and for the school st which I'm a governor. Both were completely wrong.

What an utterly pointless business!!

Thingvellir · 03/09/2016 07:51

Don't think this is going well for Jason. Sock purporting is not cricket though!

Thingvellir · 03/09/2016 07:52

*puppeting

AuntieStella · 03/09/2016 07:53

I find this site reliable - for all term dates despite the name

www.halftermdates.co.uk

as it's more a collection of links to authoritative sources, very handy rather than googling each school/council every time

(covers Ireland, France, Aus and NZ as well)

You do all realise you're giving his site traffic by checking the dates for your school, right? Personally I use the school website but hey ho.

Vixxfacee · 03/09/2016 07:56

Grin This Is hilarious. Poor Jason.

MirabelleTree · 03/09/2016 07:56

It might be giving him traffic but this thread is now also appearing in the Google listings if you google his website...

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2016 07:56

I haven't checked my school's dates. I assume the website won't allow for years 8 and 12 starting a day earlier than the rest of the school next week.

We also have newsletters emailed to us with all the term dates on. I would not be looking at any other website for the info. Bizarre.

BikeRunSki · 03/09/2016 07:58

Wrong for my children's school too. School name also wrong, which could confuse new parents.

Term dates are also not totally useful without Inset Day dates, because these are often tagged onto the end of school holidays. Ie: on the first or last official day of term.

Brokenbiscuit · 03/09/2016 07:58

To be fair, the incorrect dates for the school at which I'm a governor do say "awaiting verification".

However, the dates for dd's school say "verified". If we'd have gone by the dates on the site, dd would have missed the first three days of term!! The October half term is in the wrong week and the start and end dates for the Christmas holiday are wrong too. I haven't checked any further...

I would love to know what the verification process involves, Jason. Do tell!
