Have recently got Sky, well ds and hubby have, football, football and more football. Aaaaagh.

I know nothing except that there are zillions of channels; anyone have any recommendations for good programmes worth checking out for either kids or me.

Lizzer what was the psychic one you used to talk about, on at lunchtimes?

I love UKFood too, and I couldn't be without UKGold & Granada Plus. Always something worth watching there. I used to watch Paramount Comedy channel (127) for a good laugh (us sitcoms) but it's gone downhill a bit recently.

bettys · 22/05/2002 15:22

There are very few programmes we watch on Sky, just Buffy, Angel and football (can echo that Aaaaagh, Ems!). Am currently in limbo as we had ITV Digital which went phut & it'll take a month for Sky to be installed, but ds likes CBeebies, no ads and no competitions. It's more of a case of think of a programme you used to like & it'll probably be there somewhere. UK Gold & Granada Plus have archive shows like Dad's Army or The Man From Uncle. Living TV has psychic shows & hospital documentaries. Don't know which psychic show Lizzer meant but it could have been Derek Acorah who used to be on Breeze, but that channel has gone now

cherry · 22/05/2002 15:39

Sex and the City! Latest series on E4 mon/tue/wed at 10pm, also previous series on Paramount at 10.30pm. My 4 y/o loves CBeebies and Playhouse Disney.

Joe1 · 22/05/2002 16:57

John Edward on Living 12.30 and 7.30 with hour long ones on at weekends he cant be missed you will be amazed. They have a pananormal weekend this weekend. Buffy but most of all Angel Sky One on Thursday from 8.00. I like UK Style for the house doctor and some of the decorating programmes. Im glad I dont have Sky sports (I have cable) for the football, (just lost the ITV digital sports channels) I see enough as it is. UK Gold. We are thinking of moving from cable to sky can everyone recommend over cable?

Joe1 · 22/05/2002 16:58

What is pananormal?? meant to be paranormal

Enid · 22/05/2002 17:09

Joe1, glad to see you are an Angel fan. Sadly, I have decided I am seriously, madly in love him. I think those pregnancy hormones have a lot to answer for.

Joe1 · 22/05/2002 17:17

Good excuse Enid. Mmm there is something about him. Spike has a certain something too but he needs to get a bit of meat on that body. Dh told me he is gay in real life and american (I think he said american) with a very strong accent.

Enid · 22/05/2002 18:01

I saw Spike interviewed and he has a very strong Californian accent and I could well believe that he's gay.

Angel on the other hand...is married to a porn star. Oh well.

WideWebWitch · 22/05/2002 18:21

We've just got Sky and I can't say I'm that impressed. I wanted E4 for S&TC etc and Sky One and movie channels. Many nights so far though we've thought there must be something on and there hasn't been, but maybe we're being too fussy. Ds however, loves Little Bill and Dora the Explorer on Nick Junior and they seem quite sweet to me. BUT, I'm not a fan of too much TV for him and the fact that there are constant children's programmes does annoy me since I had to drag him away from the telly this morning to go to the beach. I think he needs fresh air and exercise, he thinks otherwise. You have been warned

Ems · 22/05/2002 18:34

Tiniest ds is currently watching Dave on a disney playhouse channel, and thinks its WOW that Rolie Polie is on at bedtime as well as waking up time. Biggest son was delighted to catch Englands friendly match yesterday whilst being off school!

I'm going to try and catch your paranormal show Joe1, I love all the House Dr programmes. Thanks everyone.

I can personally vouch for Little Bear Stories on Nick Jnr, 6.30pm. It works like a dose of valium for dd and if I watch it with her I'm asleep by 6.45pm.

Joe1 · 22/05/2002 19:17

Oh Enid hes not is he. It was probably only to furthur his career. Anyway its only your hormones.

Ds too liks little Bill, Dora the Explorer, Blues Clues and the Wiggle Song.

Enid · 22/05/2002 19:20

He was very cool though and not overly camp. Blame it on the hormones, if he's not big and dark, I'm not interested.

ScummyMummy · 22/05/2002 19:22

Don't have Sky but partner's parents do and I think Nick Jr is really good- though I agree about side effect of turning kids into couch potatoes with a constant stream of programmes, WWW. My kids love "Little Bill" and "Blue's Clues". Actually, I think "Blue's Clues" has one of the only genuinely talented kids presenters in the business at the moment.

My father in law and I have a big weakness for Judge Judy, I'm afraid!

Joe1 · 22/05/2002 19:24

Enid I was talking about Angel, or do you have a soft spot of Spike too.

My dh thinks Kevin from Blues Clues should be paid a fortune for what he does.

Enid · 22/05/2002 19:32

My dp spotted Kevin presenting a late night model making programme - sadly, thats wooden boats and things, not sexy models. And we both saw him presenting a segment of Holiday a few months ago. We're obsessed.

I thought you meant Spike. Yes, Angel is married and they've just had a baby so no chance of me coming between them.

Joe1 · 22/05/2002 19:41

Oh Enid never mind, they are probably very unhappy and havnt got all the things you have

cherry · 22/05/2002 21:22

Wickedwaterwitch, I often find the same as you, ther's nothing on! So many channels yet nothing decent to watch! And when there is a couple of decent progs on, there's a good three hours between them and you end up falling asleep waiting! Dh likes the history and discovery channels, unfortunately only the bits I'm not interested in. Lucky he's at work when S&TC is on eh!?!

SofiaAmes · 22/05/2002 21:52

Oh definitely Angel. Though I have met him and he is totally obnoxious and stuckup and spent the entire conversation trying to peer down my busty friend's blouse, but I still like the show. I'm getting a little bored with Buffy. I love Charmed. and am waiting for the new season of Sex and the City. And I love the really mushy stuff on Hallmark like Judging Amy and Providence. And of course Judge Judy.
My husband likes the Wildest Police Videos (actually I do too, but pretend not to).
Since I am totally adicted to TV, I make sure not to let my son watch any at all, so I don't know anything about the kids shows.

Enid · 22/05/2002 22:12

I don't care, Sofia, I still love him.

SofiaAmes · 22/05/2002 22:55

Enid, me too. I used to be friends with the wife of the creator of Buffy and Angel and she was in love with him too. I don't think hubby was too pleased.
Though I am beginning to think about robbing the cradle....have you seen the dishy superman in Superman: the Early Years!

Tortington · 22/05/2002 23:04

ohhhhhh yes super man/boy and angel yummy - wouldnt kick either of them out of bed for farting!

Enid · 23/05/2002 08:58

Sofia, would that be Joss Whedons wife? I am way impressed (she says, trying not to sound like an arch nerd...and failing, miserably).

I like superman too, but prefer young Lex. Why???? I don't know, but I'm pregnant and fancy absolutely everyone at the moment.

eli · 23/05/2002 09:32

My ds loves Dora, Blues Clues, Little Bill and Little Bear. I do have major problems trying to remove him from the television especially as they tend to be on when I need to be doing other things like dd's homework and supper for adults. But they all seem harmless - if ds starts talking with an american accent then I will know i really have a problem! One thing to watch out for is that there are games on Sky and at the press of a button you can end up paying to continue the game. This only came to light on our bill as ds had figured out how to play but hasn't got a clue about the paying part!
