thgey do! People do buy pictures to match the bloody wall colouyrs, I've seen it often! My friend has this incredible huge block colours pic of a mediterranean town and when I asked who it was by she said ''oh, I don't know, but the colours all tie in with the curtains and sofa...''
I was stunned. And in Habitat at xmas, I was looking a decorations and I heard an assistant say ''this picture would look well if you have an orange rug...''

It's like all these home makeover shows where they paint a canvas to m atch the walls

Thank god there are 'normal' people out there.

we've got an oil painting by Kristan Baggeley. This is a similar one of his. The one we have is proportionally longer - about half the height of this one and is of a spot about 2 miles from the place I still think of as home. We have two originals by this guy . They are very interesting but not eye candy. they deserve quite some time tbh. one is very sad and I was very unnerved when I saw it (dh chose it) but it has grown on me.

Whizzz · 14/01/2007 20:32

I have a 1mx1m canvas of Soupy the Bat

EmmyLou · 14/01/2007 20:32

I have recently bought 2 paintings by Welsh artist Claudia Williams from a gallery in Cardiff (late 40th birthday present for me!). Her paintings are often of children and mothers - unsentimental yet touching. I have one called Young Mother and another smaller one called The Picture Book.

Am hoping to buy a painting by her husband Gwyllum Pritchard (sorry - crap spelling there). My parents knew them in the 1960's and I grew up with their paintings on the walls and then recognised and fell 'in love' with Claudia Williams' work when I found a book on her when on holiday in Pembrokeshire. They have both produced paintings of where we go on holiday every year so I feel quite a personal connection with them i suppose.

Also have prints by my best friend who is a fine art printmaker. Also watercolours by my brother who is an art therapist.

Hang on a sec, what's wrong with that? If it pleases you, what does it matter who painted it? Do you remember the title and composer of every piece of music that you like and listen to, when you let it be a background to your day?

hatwoman · 14/01/2007 20:33

MI - what does the lion one say?

Monkeytrousers · 14/01/2007 20:36

I have a rothkoesque thing I did and a few framed very sexist 'careless talk costs lives' posters from the wars \link{http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~pv/pv/courses/posters/images4/notsodumb.jpg&imgrefurl=www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~pv/pv/courses/posters/images4/notsodumbx.html&h=585&w=417&sz=46&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=Hf7gOWm3jrcZxM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=96&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkeep%2B%2Bmum%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff\this is my absolute fav)

Got an awful sepia 'rose' photo over canvas for xmas which I have defaced with acrylics in primary colours and which now looks much better - thanks mam

hatwoman · 14/01/2007 20:38

we've also got an original by this artist - very similar to this but, imvhanao better! and a watercolour of where dh and I both went to university, which was commissioned for us as an engagement present by the ils. rather special as mil died shortly after.

Monkeytrousers · 14/01/2007 20:38

foxinsocks · 14/01/2007 20:38

foxinsocks · 14/01/2007 20:42

I like that sort of thing MT.

EmmyLou · 14/01/2007 20:46

Love that Nun and children! What great photos.

JackieNo · 14/01/2007 20:47

EmmyLou - the Claudia Williams ones are lovely - I'd never heard of her before, but I'm going to have to do some research on her, to find out more.

foxinsocks · 14/01/2007 20:54

they are v attractive to look at (the claudia williams - had also not heard of her).

I love African art hat (but I suppose I'm a bit biased ) but love the sculptures more than the pictures in many cases.

JackieNo · 14/01/2007 20:57

Some Claudia Williams paintings. I love the one called 'Sleeping'.

cheeryface · 14/01/2007 21:01

thanx this has been interesting

JackieNo - you want the Martin Tinney Gallery in Cardiff - google for their website.

EmmyLou · 14/01/2007 21:04

Jackie - the one you like called 'Sleeping' is very like the one I've got called 'Young Mother' - the colours are very different but the subject matter and composition are similar. On that site you do a link to, my favourite is 'Le Petit Dejeuner' and 'First Summer' - I love those tiny babies in white.

EmmyLou · 14/01/2007 21:07

For Claudia williams try this

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2007 21:13

It's really interesting to see some of these. there are some really different styles that people like. The Claudia williams stuff does nothing for me. but it's clearly very good and does something for others. I love the Irish Sea one on the Martin Tinney website.
