What do people think about calling a boy Cain? There was one in our toddler group. When his Mum told me his name my jaw really did drop (until then I'd thought it was just a figure of speech).

3andnomorethechrimbobimbo · 18/12/2006 23:52

could cain be spelled Kane though? We used to like the name Kane, but nor Cain, if you know what I mean?

And what is wrong with Korben? Not saying I love it...but what is wrong wiht it?

Know an aphrodite, but she is truely greek, so, it's a normal name for them!

Don't like Dallas, I must say!

CLITORIS surely that is a joke

controlfreakyturkeyandstuffing · 18/12/2006 23:54

in reply to op, yes...... me!

3andnomorethechrimbobimbo · 19/12/2006 00:02

Hm...Dirk, is a very common german name, I just dislike for no particular reason, just don't like the sound of it, and there are many of those names...but as menntioned a personal thing!

My cousin named her lil boy Enrico....which is, in itself a lovely name, really, but doesn't suit the family or the lil boy....it sort of assumes the carrier is mediteranian and temperemental, and that wee boy is just so mellow and sweet and very blond!

My so't have unusual names, but only over here really...as in germany my first 2 sons names are pretty normal...Sven and Yannic, and Flynn , I suppose is unusual to some extend in englad as well as in germany!

I knew an Andrew Peacock at school (called Drew Peacock) and saw a press release about a guy who worked at the Pentagon called Isaac Hunt. Honest.

I have a not great rolled together middle and surname (not telling you what tho!) and my parents didn't even tell me about it. I found out when I was 12 when I looked at my baby bank account book. Couldn't believe it!

Really sorry to those getting upset - if you can't laugh at the names and take it as a bit of fun that you don't get het up over, how are your kids going to cope?! Some of these are really v funny

knakered · 19/12/2006 00:37

Some one recently told me that one of their colleagues had named their 4th child Isaac Cox

knakered · 19/12/2006 00:40

Also knew a Wayne King

knakered · 19/12/2006 00:56

Also knew a Wayne King...if we had twins we were thinking of Martha and Arther...or Max and Paddy

Flumpybumpy · 19/12/2006 09:35

Wayne King LOL

It is the combination of names that I can't get my head around.

I know a James James, surely that just shows a complete lack of imagaination by the parents.

Somebody else I know reckons they know a Hugh Jars but I think she is winding me up!!!

buffythenappyslayer · 19/12/2006 09:57

my kids have (what i think to be) lovely names michael, chloe, amelia, nathaniel and alyssa.but my brothers gf said last week "if you do have another (we are ttc at the mo) i hope you give it a normal name and not one of them daft names like your other kids!" i was soooooo peeved off at her.

maybe i should name a child after her normal named ds (who is in his 20's) wayne dwayne kipling!!(no joke, thats his full name)

Twinkie1 · 19/12/2006 10:06

There is a Rooney at DDs school!!

Gingeme · 19/12/2006 10:40

I used to go to school with a William Williams. We called him 2 willies

steffy1 · 19/12/2006 11:36

if i ever had a little girl id like her middle name to be princess-i suppose im setting her up for a lifetime of scorn!!

some of the names on here are really funny but i have to admit i actually like some of them!!

dont worry though, my ds's have 'normal' (ish) names

Wordsmith · 19/12/2006 11:41

I've said this before but DH was at school with a Mike Hunt whose dad's name was Isaac.

And I met someone whose daughter went to school with Russell Sprout.

ChristmasPresence · 19/12/2006 18:05

I know of an Oliver Cockaday. Also a friend of ours has a wife and a dog both called Sam - now surely that's weird?

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 19/12/2006 19:00

My old boss at work used to do health benefits for low income families and met a woman who named her daughter Vagina. Apparently the woman had never heard the word before her pregnancy, thought it was beautiful and decided to name her daughter after it.

tinkerbellie · 19/12/2006 19:28

i am a fan of unusual names
my daughter is called poppy and people always comment on it
most of the time it is nice though

my friends have called their little girl hetty, wasn't sure at first but love it now

icebat · 20/12/2006 12:19

On names that were changed by deedpole, there's a guy around here who does anything for charity that invloves beans, ie sitting in baths of them, eating a lot of them etc etc. He used to drive around in a VW beetle that was painted in beans, he dresses up in an orange suit and to get to the point he's changed his name to Captain Beany.

On the same fore/surnames I know a guy called David David - he's known as 'Dai twice'(yes we're in Wales).
