CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell - hope you're joking! Insults on MN are fun - look how very wooood I am about Xenia!

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 10:10

There was a young woman at my gym who had a daughter called Dazzle Star. Yes, that was her real name.

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 18/12/2006 10:12

Now if you want to insult your kid, call them Max and Ruby - terrible names!

SmileysPeople · 18/12/2006 10:13

Those parents should be shot.
Although I met an Arthur at playgroup. Can you beleive that? It's just cruel.

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 10:15

I'm going to go cry now.

You all have upset me. I wanted you to take the mick. I invited you to.

But now you're just evil.

Topher's a great name.

For a hamster.

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 18/12/2006 10:15

Arthur's a stupid name! I much prefer Sherlock.

yulemoonfiend · 18/12/2006 10:22

we used to collect silly names on our local newspaper.

Nobby Diamond
Quentin Cumber (Q-Cumber)
Rosie Cox
The Rev Dick Seed
Pc Hassle and PC Grabbham
Sam Lamb
A gallery owner called Mr Twatt (pronounced by him as Twaahhh
Pat Gentles

This wqas 10 odd years ago but I still remeber some of them

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 18/12/2006 11:00

Sounds like splitting hairs to me, flumpybumpy. It's pretty spiteful, in any case.

Flumpybumpy · 18/12/2006 16:07

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve: No, sorry, I don't agree. It's not spiteful, I haven't once said the names are shit, horrible, nasty etc... just daft.

Seriously, Holly Hester, doesn't that even bring a small smile to your mouth????

Some of the names quoted on here are lovely, as I said before my DD's middle name is Holly but paired with Hester, come on don't you think that is just a little bit daft??

Clearly you have just jumped on this thread with the attitude that no-one can have a laugh at some of the names children have been given without seeing it as spiteful. Maybe you just don't have a sense of humour!

The problem with these threads is that they show people's ignorance.

Rocco is a common italian name and Axel is a common name in Germany, Holland and Belgium.

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 18/12/2006 17:50

I used to know a Chinese guy called Chiu Chew - and in the way Chinese people often do he'd chosen an anglicised name - Thomas. He was known to everyone as the Tank Engine of course!

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 18/12/2006 19:49

Of course I have a sense of humour flumpybumpy, although not one shared by all MNers. My sense of humour rarely involves sneering at other people's choice of name for their child - I don't think that's funny.

SpicymulledSheraz · 18/12/2006 20:00

This thread is not as nasty as the chav one last week which was really sneery and nasty, some of these 'daft' names are pretty and fun. Some are just bonkers. My Dh knew a german girl called Heidi Doody.

pulapula · 18/12/2006 20:10

I went to school with a Constantinople Constantinou!

DeckthehallsLaDiDaDi · 18/12/2006 20:22

I do think it's funny when children have names that, when paired with their surnames, sound ridiculous. It's often a "normal" forename but the combination of names that is funny and shows klack of foresight on behalf of the parents, Holly Hester and Matt Brown being examples.

DingdongMegaLegsonhigh · 18/12/2006 20:32

I taught a Tiger - he was cute.
Arthur is cool. (DS1's middle name after my and dh's granddads.)
Heidi Doody is my favourite so far.

My ds3 has a dogs' name too

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 18/12/2006 20:47

I've come to the conclusion that if it hurts someone, it's not funny, Pruni, that's all. I've been as guilty as anyone of making cutting remarks and upsetting people on here, I know (have usually apologised too). But after seeing countless name threads where people get genuinely hurt because their child's name is ridiculed, especially recent ones where posters knew they had hurt someone and carried on jeering anyway, I don't think this is funny any more. Just a personal view. And it doesn't mean I don't have a sense of humour.

my son has a name mentioned on here...

I'm pleased it is interesting to some of you, I have the most boring name ever so I am pleased for him. (and it has a really good meaning which suits him loads)

I'm so not offended, but agree it could upset someone who is ultra sensitive, but then come to think of it, if you are ultra sensitve then why name your child something like

hugh cumber?

He exists and is one of the most confident kids I know btw!

skill · 18/12/2006 21:19

I actually work with a Chris Cross, and a friend of my sister is called Annette Curtin.

People are always telling her to pull herself together ....

Gingeme · 18/12/2006 21:22

My sil called her little girl Bliss. Thats a cereal isnt it?

bloomingnora · 18/12/2006 21:22

Personally I think it's much funnier when adults change their name by deed poll to something really stupid:

Mr K O T Jungle. Yes, King of the Jungle.
and Ni German Shepherd Dog. Both genuine! A friend also knows someone who changed her name to Tarpe L Catford....

taffy101 · 18/12/2006 21:38

In my DH line of work he's come across a Yehbut Enui Fnordd Watt and a Angel Heavenly changed by deed poll
