Cannot believe the Candice comment? Candice is a lovely name!!!!

Know someone who taught a girl called Ria - which is fine - except her surname was Lidiott.

Just run the two together . . . .

buktus · 18/12/2006 07:04

i know a Rocco

marymillington · 18/12/2006 07:09

i know a Magenta
and at the other end of the scale a Mabel Lark
(blimey i hope their mums don't come on here)

but i have to say the latter is growing on me.

DirksMummy · 18/12/2006 07:40

My 10 month old is called Dirk, if he had been a girl (or if we have a girl in the future) she would be Fenchurch

MossletoeAndWine · 18/12/2006 07:51

I know a lady who is planning on calling her son Rocco, but it is spelt in a different way can't recall how, and is a traditional Scandanavian name (she is Scandanavian). I was planning to call ds Wayland, until someone pointed out that Smithers' (the Simpsons) first name is Wayland!

Such a personal thing though, we have come up with a name now which is unusual without imo being too pretentious, just hope he suits it when he's born! I think it depends on the kid as well, a name like Aphrodite for example is a lot to live up to, but I'm sure there is a grown up Aphrodite somewhere out there who just loves her name!

marialuisa · 18/12/2006 08:46

I knew brothers called Achilles and Spartacus Barron at school.

junkinmytrunk · 18/12/2006 08:47

SchneeBallFight · 18/12/2006 09:19

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 09:20

here we go again . . .

aDadOnAOneHorseOpenSleigh · 18/12/2006 09:20

usually does doesn't it.

Flumpybumpy · 18/12/2006 09:28

Santagotstuckupthegreensleeve: it is not a thread ridiculing other peoples children, it is reidiculing the parents who have stuck their children with daft names that they will, no doubt, not thank them for in the future.

Get your facts straight before you jump on having a go!

I actually knew someone who's real forename on his birth certificate is Topher.

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 18/12/2006 10:03

AND JUST WHAT IS WRONG WITH TOPHER? HOW VERY DARE YOU TAKE THE PISS OUT OF MY SON'S NAME!

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 18/12/2006 10:03

That's IT! I'm reporting you and I shall never set foot in Mumsnet ever ever AGAIN!

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 10:04

He was a nice enough bloke, Cliffy, just had a daft name.

I know his mother spent a lot of time greetin' into her hankie over it.

NOT.

You should have heard what she named her daughter!

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 18/12/2006 10:04

Speak to the hand!

piglit · 18/12/2006 10:05

So, whilst it's not ok to judge children because of their names it's ok to judge their parents?

DizzyBinterWonderland · 18/12/2006 10:06

i was at uni with a girl called mercedes storm. and no, that wasn't her porn star name, that was her actual name.

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 18/12/2006 10:06

Yes! Piglit thank you! Expat is judging me and I'm not standing for it anymore! I am LEAVING MUMSNET!

fortyplus · 18/12/2006 10:08

I say HOORAY for people brave enough to give their children unusual names - my 2 are very boring. DS1 is a very conventional child who needs a solid 'ordinary' name, but DS2 is a bit more of a wild child who could've lived up to something wacky.
What a shame we don't know their characters when we name them!
