Afternoon wenches. I've skimmed the thread, and there's only one man on my list and it's this one. DH took this lovely pic.
So, here's my report on the Carols. We met up with Carolina for lunch and chat and a giggle and then we made our way to the church. As we were too early we went into the pub over the road for a drink and more chat. We left the pub at 6.00 and went over the road to the church where about 40 Burketeers were already gathered. By this time last year Tom was already there, but it was raining heavily and he didn't appear. The doors opened at about 6.30 and we went in. The service started at 7.00 and Tom did his reading about half way through.
After the service he moved into the aisle and the Burketeers surrounded him. We decided to wait a bit for the crowd to thin out, but those who had had their photos and signings weren't moving out of the way so it was getting more and more packed. We were worried that he would have to leave so we just decided to push our way in.
It was at this point that Tom spotted DH and waved to him. DH waved back and Tom winked at me. He then sort of made his way towards us and said "You've got a train to catch, haven't you?" Bless his cotton socks, he didn't want me to miss out. He asked how I was and I asked him the same. I then asked him to sign my service booklet, which he did. Then DH took a photo and I moved back for Carolina to go forward. Sadly we didn't have a chance to get him on our own as we did last year as it was all a bit of a scrum.
So that was it really, we hung around for a bit, then hugged Carolina and left. He was still signing and having photos taken. He's so patient and calm, I can't imagine him ever getting into a panic. It was 1.00am when we got home and I felt horribly sick, probably from a combination of a rather bumpy train journey and not enough food/liquid. What with that and the fact that my brain wouldn't switch off, I didn't have much sleep, but that doesn't matter. We had a wonderful time and achieved our objective against rather fearsome odds.
