Is it me or does anyone else find Eastenders too tied up in aggresiveness and nastiness nowadays. I used to watch it loads but I really hate the nasty stuff all the time. It is full of violence, and tonight even rape. Just such unpleasant viewing, and way before the 9pm watershed. But there is no way I would want a child of mine watching some of the stuff on it. I can't bring myself to watch it most of the time now.

What do other peole think? Is it just me who thinks it just isn't necessary?

didn't see it tonight- but don't think that there's any need for such violence, and rape - why? what's the justification of that?

BTW slight change of tack- how can they just change the child actor in Coronation street (plays Rosie or is it Sophie?)and expect us just to carry on as normal...!!!

tammybear · 14/05/2004 20:41

did anyone else think it was a bit stupid for kat to hide behind that door even though there was glass there, alfie could of spotted her

and i thought that sophie character had changed but i thought it was just my imagination, so im glad you've noticed unicorn

Hulababy · 14/05/2004 20:56

tammybear - I thought that about Kat too, very odd.

I used to like it much more too, in fact was a fairly regular viewer. Now it just seems so relentlessly miserable. There's a romance that's 'genuine' like Kat and Alfie and of course it has to be ruined in the most sordid depressing way. There aren't any sparky, funny, odd characters any more. And you're right Hulababy, all the characters (especially male ones) are pretty vile in behaviour etc.

littleweed · 14/05/2004 21:03

definitely a new sophie.
why didn't Andy ask Kat where his negligee was?
why has Spencer died his hair grey?
will tracey ever get plot of her own?
where was Ian cooking dinner for Den? it didn't look like sharons kitchen cos that has a chalkboard in it, adn I can't belived they'd eat at Ians...or has Den moved out?
also (beleived i'm becoming slightly obsessed about bedrooms now - quite worrying!)how many bedrooms in teh ferrari's place? it must have about 5 - no wonder they can't afford the mortgage!
also agree that EE could do with some happier plots for a change - not daft ones like they always are when Jim is involoved, but just something with no anger or violence. no way would i let any child of mine watch it.
Littleweed (who really does need to get a life!)

Paula71 · 14/05/2004 21:04

I stopped watching Eastenders after they had poor little Mo go through another rape. Like they could offer a little sunshine and have her and Billy have the baby.

After that I haven't watched a single episode - who got raped this time?

And DH noticed that Sophie actress had changed too - he liked the previous actress as he imagined if we have a daughter she'd look like that (daft men!)

tammybear · 14/05/2004 21:06

i think ian was in dens house, cos the watts moved into phil mitchells old house didnt they?

unicorn · 14/05/2004 21:08

Think the previous Sophie was too cute- ie not looking stroppy teenagey enough.
Sorry Hula I'm not Hijacking Eastender thread- and taking it over with Corrie!!

beansprout · 14/05/2004 21:25

Agree with what's been said. I really hate all the tedious "gangster lite" stuff as well. There is always a Phil/Steve Owen/Andy/Dan/Den/Denlet etc etc character who is just a sad, angry man making a dodgy living. No matter how hard they are though, not one of them ever swears.

Yeah right.

tammybear · 14/05/2004 21:27

Everyone seems to have so much money as well. Where do they get it from? Except for the obvious people with their dodgy dealings. Everyone seems to own something as well. I have nothing!! lol

Jennisaurus · 14/05/2004 21:28

I found the Kat/Andy storyline very very distasteful.
I like EE a lot, but its been bad recently

suzywong · 14/05/2004 21:28

I missed it tonight (pesky kids).
Can someone breifly fill me in please?

beansprout · 14/05/2004 21:30

Even the Slaters can raise several thousand for Charlie when need be. Except when they are "doing debt" as a story line, e.g. the Ferrerias (just GO!), Laura struggling just before she shuffled off but as a general rule they can all eat and drink out as much as they want.

tammybear · 14/05/2004 21:33

suzywong, it was lauras funeral, ferrias have decided to swat in their house, kat slept with andy although alfie had raised the money, pat found out ian's the father of bobby.

have i missed nething?

suzywong · 14/05/2004 21:35

thank you Tammybear
blimey what a fun packed episode

tammybear · 14/05/2004 21:36

oh and vicky tried to set up kelly and spencer on a date but neither of them wanted it, and zoe keeps leaving dennis voicemails even though its so obvious hes only after one thing

beansprout · 14/05/2004 21:37

A real chortle fest. At least they don't stand and sing 'round that fecking piano anymore. Small mercies and all that.

CountessDracula · 14/05/2004 21:44

having been a fan of Eastenders for years and years I have now given up cos it's so BORING!

beansprout · 14/05/2004 21:47

I only watch it once or twice a week as you simply don't need to watch them all to catch up. Friday is always the climax of whatever has been building all week. Nothing else happens on any other days.

suzywong · 14/05/2004 21:47

I go through phasese too.
For exmaple after Steve Owen charred to a crisp it went downhill and then Dennis perked it up a bit.

It is rather tedious and unrealistic on the whole thought

madgirl · 14/05/2004 21:48

who is sophie in eastenders? anyone got the long term scoop on what happens to eastenders - read that kat gets up duff with andy's child and alfie has affair with little mo which is all too depressing as kat and alfie was the only nice thing in that programme

madgirl · 14/05/2004 21:49

i meant on what happens to kat and alfie

tammybear · 14/05/2004 21:54

sophies in corrie. heard about that affair which i didnt really understand. y wud alfie have an affair? but i did hear that alfie sees that tape andy recorded of him and kat

beansprout · 14/05/2004 21:58

Why can't Kat and Alfie just be happy?

Have to say, I do tend to fancy the gangsters (Steve Owen, Denlet, Dan, ahem even the dodgy Wicks that kept shagging Cindy). Not Phil though. Yuck.

madgirl · 14/05/2004 22:00

i fancy the baddies too. glad i'm not the only anti christ.
