PS - Elk hope BabyElk went down ok in the end. No suggestions. I resorted to the hoover one night when DS wouldn't stop wailing for no apparent reason, DH was out and I was at the end of my tether. Note, the hoover wasn't to sooth him, it was to drown him out.
