... go on about the fact that they had no central heating and no washing-machine, and "we certainly didn't have a car until we were 35, and do you know, a LOT of people weren't on the PHONE" etc, ad nauseam, ad infinitum, yakka yakka yakka.

I think it's to make us feel guilty that DW and I both work, and a hint that if we were prepared to give up these 'luxuries' we could live on one income. Oh, ho ho bleeding ho. Merry Christmas.

LOL at your knickers, ami.

My dad does the 'when you were little I had to walk to work because I couldn't afford the bus fare' thing. Don't really believe him because by the time he was 26 we had a four bedroom detached house and a middle-class lifetstyle. And I read a profile of him in an industry magazine where he definitely told a few porkies about his education and early career choices.

We had a telex machine at home when I was a child - height of technology ...

DH's Granny used to say, "We didn't have toys when we were young, or shoes, but we were happy"

I taught a child whose parents were a bit older (she was 8, mum was late 40s and dad was in his 50s) .... she told me her mum was born when the world was colour but her dad was born when the world was black and white.

A few years ago a boy I taught came into school one day to tell me all about this really cool film he had seen. It was made in the Olden Days but hollywood had remastered it ... What was it?
Bleeding Star Wars - Olden DAYs??????

DS still thinks it is hilarious that children's tv was only on at certain times when we were children, as opposed to ALL DAY like it is now.
