Thursday is Thanksgiving. Like many others, it's been a hard year for us but it made me consider what I am grateful for.

Here's my list, so far:

  • 1 happy, healthy DS who helped me get through a horrible time. We made it through our first year together, yeah!

  • An amazing group of friends, without whom I don't think I'd have survived

  • The internet for enabling me to stay in contact with family & friends far away

  • Mumsnet

Anyone else?

  • My wonderful supportive parents and friends both here and back hom
  • My incredible next door neighbour who are more like family than anything
  • Strength of personality to keep my going through a year of hell
  • Health

I'm thankful for:

  • my wonderful, healthy, happy DS

  • a supportive family & friends who have gone out of their way to help me when I really needed it

*That, against all the odds, my Dad made it through the year... [very relieved emoticon]

  • ... and that, as a surprise, I took DS 4000 miles to meet him. I dumped Ds in his carseat on the doorstep, rang the bell & hid. I will never forget the look on my dad's face when he realised that the bundle on the doorstep was his first & only grandchild .

My list is so long. I truly feel that I have lived a blessed life, or a least a bloody lucky one so far.

I feel grateful that I have never known: hunger, thirst, lonliness, war, death, violence, disease, mental illness, poverty or fear.

What more can I ask of life?

julienetmum · 22/11/2006 11:39

I am thankful that I have two beautiful, healthy children who we will hopefully watch grow up.

Someone dh knows is not so lucky and her 5 year old is on borrowed time.

CantWaitForTheSnow · 22/11/2006 11:44

My dd, full of cold, grumpy, over tired and teething is now cuddled up in my arms having a sleepy feed. And when she wakes up she'll give me the biggest smile in the hole world

My dh who is so wonderful

My deefas who put up with whatever life throws at them, and are always pleased to see me.

KTeepee · 22/11/2006 11:47

That my family and I are healthy and happy

That we have a warm house with plenty of hot water

That I can afford to buy food and pay bills without worrying where the money is coming from

Cappuccino · 22/11/2006 11:48

wine and coffee

Quootiepie · 22/11/2006 11:50

OOOh,

*My DS, definatly. I am so so so so so lucky to have him, I am thankful every day that he's here.
*Mumsnet I guess aswell - honestly, its wonderful. I thought you had to give up breastfeeding at 6 months, I thought co-sleeping was wrong, I didnt know about BLW... and ive had tons of support with different things. Sounds cheesy, but its true!
*Health - im getting better all the time, when I look back on 2 + years ago, its amazing how far ive come
*A home - after moving in and out with various exs etc., living with my mum... I now have my own home. Its really all ive ever wanted (apart from DS).

But I take most of that up there for granted! Writing it down has made me thankful again

wetweekend · 22/11/2006 17:47

Ds has been really sick all morning so I have to add that I am very thankful for my washing machine
