I do like historical novels, including crap ones, for entertainment value, but obviously some are on a par with tm as far as historical accuracy is concerned.

They are good escapism imo. Obviously no one is related to a water goddess or hears singing when their relatives die etc, nor could they put a curse on their enemies and accidentally curse their grandchildren etc.

(outs self as having read philippa gregory).

Liked wolf hall alot (and bring up the bbodies) but don't necessarily agree with the interpretation - let's face it Thomas Cromwell could never have been as fabulous as hillary mantel paints him nor Thomas more so awful. They were both probably somewhere in between.

The Sun in Splendour, that takes me back to my teens. I literally got my hands on all and any books which had RIII as a character as far as I could being stuck in NI (and occasionally Cheshire during the school hols). My English teacher at school, the esteemed Mr Alcorn, commented on how thick it was, leaving me Blush

I used to rattle through the big family sagas that Cheshire libraries seemed to stock a lot of in the 1980s when at my grandparents. averaged about a book a day (not much else to do in rural Cheshire and had read all Gran's Agatha Christie's).

God how I miss 8 weeks of having nothing to do by lie on a bed a read...

MiladyBeaWinter · 15/07/2015 13:45

Oh I've read her too (PG) and she writes a bloody good story. But what gives me the rage is that she won't acknowledge that she bends stuff and interprets stuff and she wants to be considered in a par with Alison Weir etc. If she just said she changed stuff or based it on her ideas rather than actual research I wouldn't mind.

But then I may take it a bit too seriously Wink

I have finally caught up & RTFT after a week. TBH - I was losing the will to live at points but I'm pleased to see the wenching has been upped due to new vigour injection .

Sparks I was going to rely on you to sub whilst I am away. I am back for 16 August rewatch which should be no 3.

SparklesRedHotChileLeather · 15/07/2015 14:31

I can do. I go on 14th Aug - will have wifi but the time difference will count me out of rewatching.

FancyFancy · 15/07/2015 15:27

Not a fan of Elves or Dwarves then Sparks? Or Avengers? Or RA? Or....yeah ok point taken Grin.

Hmm no.3 on your list. You can FRO if you think we are having any of that rota shmota nonsense. It's all for one and kick the shit out of each other in Team Athos. Unless of course you turn against us, then we are as one (Klampetts).

FancyFancy · 15/07/2015 17:03

It's a while since you all kicked off in the Athos queue - maybe you need some fresh blood? Wink

As the Captain seems to be getting lots of extra love lately I'll just leave this here.

FancyFancy · 15/07/2015 17:24

Good luck with finding a virgin in here mrsb Grin

Enormouse · 15/07/2015 17:31

Help me. The boys (all 3 of them) are being irritating.
Small ones squabbling and getting jealous of each other. Toddlermouse also threw toys out of the tiny gap we had left in his skylight to let air in. Guess who had to go onto the roof to get them back? Hmm
Large one is being weirdly clingy and feathery strokey.

you didn't see me here.
