I had a severe mauling over my views on grammar schools when I first came on here - almost had me running for my man-cave - but eventually had just as many people in support as against me!

Tutter · 15/11/2006 11:50

mellowma - lol at a laundry thread kicking off

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2006 11:51

to be fair, pollypeachum, you did stumble onto one of your first threads and upset tiktok, who is in all honesty one of the most respected posters on this site.

she gives a lot of her spare time over to helping mothers struggling to breastfeed, but more than that she is hugely sensitive to the issues that a 'failed' breastfeeder or someone who just doesn't want to breastfeed has.

i'm saying this as a 'failed' bfer myself who has taken a pasting or two in her time on BF/FF threads, she is really on the side of the angels.

i do hope that you didn't feel that you were being ridiculed on that particular thread (i don't imagine you do, as no-one mentioned you on it). and it looked to me as if you'd apologised in good heart, rather than had it 'wrung out' of you, so i'm going to assume that as being the case.

i haven't seen the other threads but from what i have read so far i find it hard to believe that you have been downright offensive. I think you'll be an excellent addition to MN, and it's true what ruty said, no-one has time to remember who said what anyway so i'm sure you'll find yourself chatting amiably (or disagreeing violently) very soon with the peopel you most feel have wronged you. given that we are all mothers on this site (more or less) the one thing you can guarantee is that our short term memories are shot to hell. . hope your baby is feeling a wee bit better this morning and that you can take the chance to get some sleep.

i've certainly had a few run ins.......i was told i was bigoted and full of hate for disapproving of kate moss & pete docherty's relationship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and a couple of others. possibly on a immunisation thread.. i talk bollocks apparently

...tis all good fun...you know you have arrived when you are putting the wind up people...!! don;t worry....

the first time , i was devastated..then i got over myself!!

if i have offended , and it is certainly not never intentionally , i will apologise...and withdraw the remark....i tend to avoid certain topics now as i can't be bothered having to justify my point of view....there are certain MN hot topics that i have learnt to stay away from!

thank you aitchtwooh, mind you i wasn't going to mention names! its tiktok's post this morning that i took so much to heart. it was just peachy to wake up and see she was putting smiley faces after the thought(hope?) i'd been "disappeared". perhaps you know her better than i and wouldn't have taken it as i did!!

having said that, i do think that spats are a waste of time and i can see that she does a great deal of good. i'm just an indigent slummy mummy who feeds her children on ketchup (joke!)

this has shown me tho to be careful and to expand my points fully if its a sensitive matter. my last boss always used to say that i shouldn't assume people knew what i was talking about and she was right!!! (if annoyingly fond of saying "never assume it'll make an ass out of you"...)

And Lulu & I still use our Red Books, so that bought us some ridicule (ok ok not so much, just wanted to join in)

cowmad · 15/11/2006 12:06

you doo like to know who everyone is tho batters!!

lulumama · 15/11/2006 12:07

i used mine only last week when babylulu, the amazing, non eating baby got weighed!!

lulumama · 15/11/2006 12:08

smug, not mug....!!

sandcastles · 15/11/2006 12:10

How's she doing?

lulumama · 15/11/2006 12:13

well, she has put on a pound in 3 months... HV laughed and told me not to bring her back until the new year!!

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2006 12:16

oh dear, i once had a boss who said that... i used to imagine leaning over her desk and slitting her throat with a letter-opener, which helped a lot.

don't take the tiktok thing to heart AT ALL, i don't believe there's a bad bone in that woman's body. she was a wee bit miffed, clearly, but it's all better now i'm sure. i thought you explained your position more than adequately the second time round so i would genuinely pay it no more heed.
(plus, sometimes people assume more than one identity to back themselves up on posts that are going tits-up, so i must admit that it did seem coincidental that a brand-new person was suddenly cheer-leading the OP from nowhere... i have no idea if that is the reason for tiktok saying 'disappeared' but that did occur to me when i saw your original post.)

anyway, that's it done with, i hope the baby is better and welcome you to mumsnet. am i allowed a smiley face?

sandcastles · 15/11/2006 12:19

awww, bless her. At least the HV doesn't seemed too concerned (not sure if that is a good or bad thing these days)

lulumama · 15/11/2006 12:19

oh Aitch..you are so sensible.....

welcome pollypeach! forgot to say that earlier!

pollypeachum · 15/11/2006 12:20

of course. its a darn sight prettier than my real one today
and thank you, yes, the littly is much improved. trying to crawl into the dishwasher anyway so i'm taking that as a sign hes on the mend

MamaG · 15/11/2006 12:25

loads.

Sometimes apologise, but don't if its not necessary imo.

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2006 12:25

well, i'd keep a gun under the bed just in case, obviously...

pollypeachum · 15/11/2006 12:35

i packed a small bag with essential provisions in case i need to go on the run.

lol at fattymamma "the thought of extended breastfeeding a child over 2 doesn't sit comfortably with me"
ah yes, that's pretty much what you said, word for word isn't it
fancy anyone getting offended about that, eh?
