Finally Given In - MN Speak

This weekend I finally gave in and started using those revolting, twee MN abbreviations, you know DH, DS DD etc. Now I truly belong! Has anyone else held out before and given in or still holding out?

I use them but now find myself thinking "OMG" instead of "Oh My God" - truly sad!

Kayleigh · 03/05/2004 20:19

Can't believe you held out that long. LOL

charliecat · 03/05/2004 20:21

Have managed to stop myself saying thembut really do think in DH DD DP and DS thought about starting a thread myself actually!

Tinker · 03/05/2004 20:23

Do you mean in Real Life Davros? I'm still holding out on here

discordia · 03/05/2004 20:36

They say you're addicted to chatting on line when somebody tells you a joke and instead of laughing you say "LOL"!

LadyMuck · 03/05/2004 20:40

DH and I actually refer to DS1 and DS2, but mainly when we don't want them to realise that we're discussing them.

I guess we need to be careful - DS1 (3) is getting to that stage where if he twigs to it, he'll tell everyone. Poor neglected child...

Lisa78 · 03/05/2004 20:42

I have referred to DH as DH - it was at baby group and they all looked at me as though I was completely bonkers! No MNers there then!

Davros · 03/05/2004 20:52

No, I mean on here not in real life! Its been about a year and I'm not sure whether to feel a failure or that I truly belong! I only have one DS and one DD so its not hard to keep track (and one DH!). I do tend to think in BTWs and FYIs though

Can't bring myself to write, gulp, "dd" at all (ooo, that felt funny). To me, it's like starting a new job where someone is known as, say "Macca". I would never call him "Macca" unless I was in on it at the beginning. But do use btw etc. cos I'm lazy NEVER use IMHO though, only IMO. Why should my, or anyone else's opinion be humble?

cuppy · 03/05/2004 21:02

Tinker- I thought it meant honest not humble - no?

Tinker · 03/05/2004 21:03

Oh, could do. Or both?

Davros · 03/05/2004 21:07

Humble methinks. Agree Tinker, I'm going to drop the H too. You've now got an admirer because you've got more resolve than I have I thought I was just being awkward and snobby but I really hate DD, DH, DS. I think its the "dear" component that gets me, the other abbreviations are fine IMO!

Tinker · 03/05/2004 21:10

I really hate dd, ds etc - thought I was the only one! People with sons have no excuse - how much harder is it to write 'son' instead of 'ds'?

Confessed to this once before on one of the curmudgeon threads.

emmatmg · 03/05/2004 21:13

Blimey Davros, A YEAR?!?!?!?!?!? how did you manage that? After about 1 month I was having to bite my tongue to stop myself saying it out load. I use them so much and see the 1,000,000 times more it near impossible to switch my MN head off when the PC gets switched off too.

One question though, What does FYI mean? I never can work that one out.

discordia · 03/05/2004 21:14

For your information, emmatmg, fyi stands for ... for your information.

discordia · 03/05/2004 21:15

Sorry, suzy, you were quicker than me. I love smileys, would like to be able to put them in letters.

emmatmg · 03/05/2004 21:18

Thankyou ladies.

suzywong · 03/05/2004 21:21

discordia
you have no idea how that petty triumph pleases me.
I won an double buggy on ebay owing to the same quick fingered skills, I used it twice and now I can't give it away.

discordia · 03/05/2004 21:29

suzywong - if you have quick fingers you should go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire!

WideWebWitch · 03/05/2004 21:47

surely you meant IRL Tinker?

aloha · 03/05/2004 21:47

I did hold out for a while...I still don't really like them...but I use them. I am a sheep. Baa Baa.

discordia · 03/05/2004 21:53

What does imao stand for?

ScummyMummy · 03/05/2004 21:53

Wow- I thought I was alone on here in resisting referring to my sons as "ds".

I am able to use the language of the masses to reply to others though.

As in:

OMG! (((((hugs))))) I'm so sorry to hear that your dh is being an eejit and your dd a hellion while your pils are staying. ROFL at your ds though. IMO you are not being unreasonable and FWIW I would tell your sil to take a flying jump off the nearest bridge. WRT your db- well, he'll recover in time. LOL. IME harsh is the only way to go when ils attack in this way. HTH.

WSM · 03/05/2004 21:56

Discordia, it is LMAO - Laughing My Arse Off !!
