Finally Given In - MN Speak

Davros · 03/05/2004 20:17

This weekend I finally gave in and started using those revolting, twee MN abbreviations, you know DH, DS DD etc. Now I truly belong! Has anyone else held out before and given in or still holding out?

OP posts:
discordia · 03/05/2004 21:56

LOL, ROFL and indeed PMSL, ScummyMummy.

discordia · 03/05/2004 21:57

Oh, thanks, WSM. Silly me. Perhaps IMAO could be "ironing my arse off"???

suzywong · 03/05/2004 22:00

discordia
I have thought of that but I loathe Chris Tarrant and his thinly veiled condesencion (sp) to women and his false gurning

discordia · 03/05/2004 22:02

suzy - I do a deal with you. You do the fastest finger, I'll answer the questions with CT and we'll split the proceedings!

sis · 04/05/2004 11:58

Discordia, how will you do the answers? maybe a light cough at the right option?

discordia · 04/05/2004 12:02

Aha, good idea, will you be the "plant" in the audience? However, coughing has been done, may need to invent new signal.

jane313 · 04/05/2004 18:45

They are very annoying and I haven't used them yet. I had it in my head that the d was darling not dear though, which is worse really.

motherinferior · 04/05/2004 18:50

WTF?

FFS, Davros, what's the problem?

motherinferior · 04/05/2004 18:51

(That was meant to be vaguely funny, by the way - BTW yet - not as annoying as I think it turned out. Sorry.)

JJ · 04/05/2004 19:01

I am holding out with the d*s but have given up writing whole swear words (so as not to offend people; I still think them) and do the other abbreviations.

LipstickMum · 04/05/2004 19:10

It's the abbreviations on the ttc (oops I've done it!) threads that COMPLETELY stump me. I am dreading when my 'darling partner' and I start 'trying to conceive' and I go on there and get totally bloody lost

Davros · 04/05/2004 19:15

Suzy & Discordia, maybe one of you could try farting in the audience? Remember not to cough at the same time to cover it up though
Motherinferior, thanks for choosing the best abbreviations I've started to put the occasional asterisk in swear words which is a bit sh*te really!

OP posts:
Tinker · 04/05/2004 19:18

I try not to type swear words because they might get through the work filter, or whatever it's called.

spots · 04/05/2004 20:17

I always thought there was a slightly ironic edge to the 'd' in dh,dd,ds etc. - certainly own dh thinks so and constantly suspects me of having a little bitch about him online... oh, as if!

MrsDoolittle · 04/05/2004 20:21

LOL Lisa78, I have done the same thing and frequently refer to dh as dh!!!!

eddm · 04/05/2004 20:41

That's what I thought too Spots. As if you are saying it through gritted teeth while recounting the latest appalling saga... maybe I'm just cynical.

Janstar · 04/05/2004 20:45

None of you have mentioned PORK!

MadameButterfly · 04/05/2004 20:47

Janstar, what is PORK?

Aparrently it is what you get on predictive text if you type PMSL into your mobile phone.

It has now become mnspeak in its own right.

PORK!

JJ · 04/05/2004 20:50

hee hee Janstar, PMSL.

I always think of the words -- is that weird? I think that's the reason I can't do the dear-whatever thing. Because they're not all the time and usually not when I'm writing about them and then I never really think of them as "dear". Love them, of course. Just not a word I use.

popsycal · 04/05/2004 21:13

blame ff for pork......

WideWebWitch · 04/05/2004 21:15

Ha ha at the predictive text thing, anyone else called someone a dualing aunt?

MeanBean · 04/05/2004 22:48

Now is probably a good time to ask what on earth ROFL stands for?

nerdgirl · 05/05/2004 11:43

Rolling On the Floor Laughing, MeanBean.
