Change babies nappies..
Change bedding...
Change bathroom towels...

After a recent discussion about housework at our toddlergroup I left feeling really slovenly and as if my house is dirty and my baby is being mistreated. It can be a bit snobby there so want to know if they are typical housewives or whether they are fibbing/OTT.
Most mums there reckon they change their babies nappies about 8-10 times a day ( I only do this about 5 times...always immediately if she is smelly and she never has had nappy rash, only occasionally a bit red)
It was bantered around that they change bedding 2 or 3 times a week...I only do this every Friday, babies cot sheets every day (big dribbler so arre soaking wet by morning)
They change towels after every bath or shower and one went on about how the idea of using a damp towel or one that had already been used and "left to fester" was disgusting...oops.
Come on - be honest, how often do you do these type of things and am I a slob?Should I buck my ideas up. I don?t want sympathy or niceness here - I just want a bit of honesty!!
(sorry long post..again)

nappies - every 3 hors day time unless red or poo. So about 5.
Bedding must be every fortnight.
Towels when they look dirty and start to smell.

stace · 01/05/2004 16:29

depends on the age of the baby, the smell etc
once a week
when i remember or when they look grubby
ridiculous changing bed linen that often what do they do in bed that im not doing
what about a muslin across the baby mouth area on the cot! I used to just change that every day rather than the who bedding.
Tell me....... dont you use towels to dry yourself AFTER YOU ARE CLEAN!!!!! These people sound neurotic to me but maybe im just a dirty slob too!!!

Arh but heres the real question, how often do you bath/shower etc how often do you bath or shower your kids?

Dreams · 01/05/2004 16:29

Nappy - about 4-5 times a day unless needs more.
Bedding - every sunday
Towels -once a week

I don't class myself as a bad mother and am quite obsessed with cleanliness!

Some people are a bit over the top but i believe the people you have been talking to have not all been telling the truth probably jusy going along with each other!

Dreams · 01/05/2004 16:31

try to bath every night (just for time on my own and relaxation really) if i don't get the chance then every other day bath my son 20 months old about 3 times a week unless he gets dirty or something!

carla · 01/05/2004 16:37
  1. NEVER
2. Fortnightly (slut, but we're all clean before bed 3. Weekly

Changed nappy when it was poohy/very wet.

DD2 used to posset the whole time, so had to change more often with her. Otherwise dd1 had hers changed weekly.

Think they're all lying

LadyMuck · 01/05/2004 16:38

I'm probably at the slovenly end myself

Nappies: it has depended on the age of the babies...mine have been very regular. At age 1 no more than 4 or 5 a day. I use disposables...

Bedding: I mentally have Fridays down as change bedding day, but tbh it varies so much according to what whose orifices have oozed what substance onto the beds in the meantime! Baby's cot is probably being changed 3 times a week at present, though should in theory be on the same weekly cycle. If the bedding is new on Weds/Thurs then it doesn't get changed, so I guess we might go for 10 days or so without a change, depending (sorry- probably given you too much info )

Towels: Again once a week unless in more obvious need. That said people are free to take a clean one when they wish, so I guess everyone probably goes through a couple of towels a week.

Freckle · 01/05/2004 16:43

Nappies - no more. Others when I remember or something drastic happens - like headlice

ponygirl · 01/05/2004 16:47
  1. Nappies - 4/5 a day (ds2 is 15 mos)
2. Bedding - mine: 10 days-ish; baby: weekly-ish; older two: two weeks-ish 3. Towels - couple of weeks. Also -ish.

Everything's very 'ish' round here. Sounds to me like they were lying.

charlieplus3 · 01/05/2004 16:51
  1. Nappies - When they are full and dripping
2. Bedding - once evry week to ten days depending if baby sicks on it or not. 3.Towels after been used a couple of times as we have a teenager and usually find them wet through on her bedroom floor
charlieplus3 · 01/05/2004 16:52

Baby bedding nearly every other day cos of snot and sick

Beccarollover · 01/05/2004 17:53

Whenever he needs it, dirty straight away - wet when I notice or before a feed.

Change sheets weekly all round unless I have extra time or if baby sicks/DD has an accident

Change bath towels weekly unless extra time

JennH · 01/05/2004 17:57

Nappies - when she is pretty wet/pooey
Bedding - ours gets done once a week, and the babies every few days
Towels - twice a week

Lisa78 · 01/05/2004 17:59

Stripymouse, either they are lying or they are bored stupid and changing bedding is their idea of entertainment!

I change nappies 3 or 4 times a day
Bedding - ours once a week at least, cos of bloody dog and cat thinking its theirs
DS1's cot sheet every 5 days or so
DS2's bed - god knows, he's 15 and can sort himself out!
Towels, we each have two towels each and I change them at least weekly

Now, how often do you clean your bathroom

We had a similar thread about a month ago and one lady did her bedding EVERY DAY!!!

stace · 01/05/2004 18:22

how does anyone have the time to change their bedding every day? I definetly dont !!!

KateandtheGirls · 01/05/2004 18:28

Nappies - 3 or 4 times a day, unless she's going through a very poopy stage (and of course she always does it as soon as she has a clean nappy on). More often when they were babies.

Sheets - probably about every 2 weeks (it's not as though anything other than sleeping is happening in my bed).

Towels - weekly-ish. I certainly don't have a set schedule.

Lisa78 · 01/05/2004 18:30

LOL at essbee! Like you dry the pots

RE: towels - once a week in my house which is fine. Clearly you need to hang them to air after use and not "leave them to fester" - maybe you should pass this tip on!
Washing towels every day seems like something only the mentally unbalanced would do IMO...

carla · 01/05/2004 19:20

Freckle, I may have asked you this before, but how old is/are your child/children?

nikcola · 01/05/2004 19:43

ddis 2 and a half so i change her about 4 times a day unless she has pooed if so i change her straight away,
bed sheets once a week unlesss there has been a accident, towels when they smell so no you are normal and they are all liying snobs

WideWebWitch · 01/05/2004 19:56

Blimey, they've all got too much time on their hands if you ask me stripymouse! There was an hilarious thread on this ages ago, I'll see if I can find it.

WideWebWitch · 01/05/2004 19:59

Here it is, Am I Dirty?
Btw, to answer your questions:
Nappies, when pooey or otherwise really need it but much much less than 10 times a day. Maybe 5 times?
Sheets, every few months
Towels, when they smell.

Demented · 01/05/2004 20:27

Nappies about four times a day (always change as soon as I notice poo though).
Bedding, our bed every week, DS1 & 2 whenever I remember or whenever it desperately needs it (like when DS1 pees his bed).
Towels, a couple of times a week.
