Interesting news to wake up to! RE quite a big name (and known to US audiences), agree he looks slighty panto in that pic, but I could imagine him being a bit more humorously panto than Rochefort - a bit more like the Cardinal.

I hope they don't have him quite as evil as Rochefort, from what I remember of him in Jamaica Inn, he had a bit of rogueish charm about him (well he was playing Jem), it would be nice for him to still have that.

Ooh excellent (Mr Burns)....Rupert Everett will make a fabulous baddie. Not sure about the other fella, I got bored with all the unrelenting misery in Jamaica Inn and stopped watching after about one and a half eps. Wasn't he in The Paradise too?...he was a bit too squeaky clean and nice in that, so hard to know what kind of a villain he'll make.

They've called him Grimaud too...was that a common name in 17C France? Athos' manservant is Grimaud is he not?

I do think RE would have been a perfect duke of Buckingham tbh.

The thing with MM is that he often plays very charming rogues.

He was in the first Our Girl play (when it was a one-off drama before the series) where he was one of the corporals at the training centre, and was also the clockmaker love interest in Larkrise to Candelford back in the day.

I do like Rupert Everett, though he was nicer before he went to the states and got all americanified. MM would make a charming rogue with a twinkle (Jem) so hope that is how he is played.

Maime's name is missed off the BBC press release list of returning cast. I'e tweeted to ask if it's true she isn't in S3. Wonder if we will get a reply?

I'm quite excited RE's in it, think he may have been a bit old for Buckingham unless they didn't do the whole Queenie/Buckingham thing.
