MrsJohnCusack · 03/11/2006 22:37

I think they're great
the Zephyr is kind of OK, it's the other names...and Kelsey is the surname, managed to include it after all that.

They're going to google his name and come and get me aren't they

The last one does sound a bit like the 5yr old elder brother came up with it. Which Mumsnetter was it whose bump had been decreed 'Yup Yup Prison'?
Artemisia means wormwood which is hallucinogenic so that could explain a few things...

flock · 04/11/2006 21:08

I heard Cartier (for a girl) today - had to smile!

indamb · 04/11/2006 21:14

kids in school with my neice are,

red roses
betty butterfly

both girls, personal choice. i did think it was a joke at first

JanH · 04/11/2006 21:19

Glad to hear both of those are girls, indamb

I still love my neighbour's Australian experience from many many years ago - child (girl) called Pish, spelled Psyche!

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 05/11/2006 09:43

Flock, how were they pronouncing Cartier? That's the telling bit really, you could maybe get away with Carti-ay but Carti-er or Car'iay.

flock · 05/11/2006 12:27

Carti-ay; Mum clearly knows her stuff. Sounded quite pretty!

ballbaby · 05/11/2006 12:32

A girl at a toddler group I go to is called Bodicea and they call her Bo ("Bow") for short. Makes me laugh because I have always pronounced it Boo-di-ka so would call her Boo for short! Her parents are absolutely lovely by the way - hope they are not mumsnetters wouldn't want to offend them

ShowOfWhizzBangHands · 05/11/2006 12:39

I met somebody the other day called Hepzibah Japonica. She was dressed like an accountant.

WelshBorisSaysFawkeOff · 05/11/2006 12:39

love these threads, even though I probably shouldn't!!

My friends little boy is called Dre

As in Dr Dre the black gangsta rapper!

He is a skinny welsh boy

intergalacticwalrus · 05/11/2006 12:58

My mum told me of twins born in the hospital she worked at in Birmingham called Dolce and Gabanna.

Why would you?

riab · 05/11/2006 13:19

Brothers in a school I worked in called Shawn and Sean (pronounced Sea-an) and the mother thought they were two different names!

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 05/11/2006 20:37

I was on a birthclub board with a lady whose little girl was named Armani. And the most unusual one I know IRL is Neo (as in The Matrix one assumes - what's wrong with Spock?).

chonky · 05/11/2006 20:38

ballbaby - I know of a Bodicea (also called Bo) - eek - wonder if it's the same family?!!

Posey · 05/11/2006 20:41

The little brother of one of dd's classmates is called Bluestar. Have got used to it and don't even think its odd now!

spinningkittywheel · 05/11/2006 20:46

I taught a child once called calico blue
one of my ds's teachers reckons she knows of 2 babies that have just been named pastrami and pepperami, I'm not too sure about that one though!!

spinningkittywheel · 05/11/2006 20:49

Oh yeah, had a friend who once taught a boy called 'Gooey' that is what his mother called him but she insisted the name be spelled like this 'Guy', because that is what she thought it was pronounced as

kenwood · 05/11/2006 20:54

I did hear of one a while ago, a midwife was telling me that she delivered a baby and the parents were to call her Ophelia.

And the parents surname was....

Dickie

ballbaby · 06/11/2006 07:20

ch - do you live in Preston?

Blandmum · 06/11/2006 07:27

I can't believe that we havn't yet had anyone pop in to say that we are all being horrid, and that these are fine names that show real character.

Then go on to say that children will mock somethings so there is 'Nothing odd about being called Opelia Dickie'

riab · 06/11/2006 10:22

Well this should wind people up then,
what are your opinions on WHY people choose odd/wierd/plain stupid names for their kids?
I think they're slightly sad people who dream of a more romantic life and want to be floaty fairy princess's themselves instead of up to their elbows in kids mess so they call their daughters 'skyrose'

WelshBoris · 06/11/2006 10:23

It's because they want to be different

And for others to comment on it "oh wow you called him Ikea, how cool and funky are you"

singersgirl · 06/11/2006 10:38

I know a Neo too, with an older brother called Kynu.
