So sad

Terry Pratchett has died
KlatchianForeignLegion · 12/03/2015 19:24

We legionaires will toast his name long into the night!

Perhaps someone could ... er ... write his thingy, er name, down for us ... with a thingy? We seem to be having difficulty ... er ...

noblegiraffe · 12/03/2015 19:31

Soul Music was my favourite. So many band name puns, I get a new joke every time I read it. He signed my copy and I asked him to write Live Fats Die Yo Gnu on it, like the Dean put in studs on his leather jacket. He had to pause to make sure he got it right.

Far too yo gnu, Terry. :(

That's beautiful cattheif and perfect. Thank you for sharing.

I hope TP's family know how much he meant to so many. I love the dedications he wrote in his books to his family An extrodinary man.

If anyone wants to donate in his memory...

A Just Giving page donating to the Research Institute to the Care of Older People (RICE) has been set up in his memory: www.justgiving.com/Terry-Pratchett

RIP Sir Terry. We all love your books- from The amazing Maurice for DS to Pyramids for DH and Mort for me.

Facelikeafriendlyapple · 12/03/2015 19:45

It's v sad.

Malabrig0 I'd like to be a fearsome combination of Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg when I grow up.

Out0fCheeseError · 12/03/2015 19:49

I've been scrolling down looking at all the other Pratchett-inspired names on the thread, tears rolling down my cheeks.

"No-one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away" -Reaper Man

His ripples will last many, many lifetimes.

Klatchian Grin You did make me smile, thank you.

I'm always using Discworld sayings. I say buggrit quite a lot (think I misspelt it in a previous post) and I've told my dds that if any monsters bother them I will scare them off with a poker.

It's not a bad legacy is it? Bringing such utter happiness and laughter to millions of people. Not to mention the work he did for Alzheimer's awareness. Some very big ripples indeed.

iklboo · 12/03/2015 19:57

'She'd stopped reading the kind of women's magazine that talked about romance and knitting and started reading the kind of women's magazine that talked about orgasms, but apart from making a mental note to have one if ever the occasion presented itself she dismissed them as only romance and knitting in a new form'

I loved that quote. Smile

stoopstoconker · 12/03/2015 19:59

wish I was lady Sybil but I'm more Nanny Ogg.

favourite Terry P. observation..'there's no such thing as a humble opinion'

a very sad loss but a fantastic legacy.

MrsEvadneCake · 12/03/2015 19:59

I'd love to think I will end up like Nanny. I have always loved his witches and shared Wyrd sisters with my DS just this week when they started Macbeth. Such a loss.

Undertone · 12/03/2015 20:00

In tears. Adolescence was hard for me, and Terry was always there with wisdom and somewhere to escape to. I wouldn't be who I am today without him.

gruber · 12/03/2015 20:02

I keep wishing that someone will turn round and say, he had a sign, like Granny Weather-wax, "I ATEN'T DEAD".

Sadly I think this is the end. I will miss his work deeply. I always got the new TP book for my birthday, November, in hardback as I couldn't wait. He made the world a funnier and brighter place.

Swex · 12/03/2015 20:03

I met him once. He told me to never trust a dog with Orange eyebrows.

It is a quote I faithfully live my life by.

I'll truly miss you tp.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 12/03/2015 20:07

...from a blog post DH sgared with me earlier...
"Death comes to us all, but memory is long and time is tricky. The end for you is, most likely, not really the end for everyone else.

If you know the end, if you can see the end, there’s no need to be resigned. Keep walking on cheerfully, whistling right up to the precipice, and let people remember you by the beautiful song you leave in the air."

iklboo · 12/03/2015 20:07

It says there was a new Tiffany Aching to be published in September this year. Sad

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 12/03/2015 20:10

No name change here. Sat here properly sobbing with DP asking me what's wrong.

I've loved his books for a very long time and the way he could make me laugh or cry when reading them regardless of where I was. I shall miss finding out what Sir Samuel, Granny, Nanny, Havelock and particularly Death have been up to since the last instalment.

Have fun Sir Terry, we will miss you

ComeInSitDownCallTheCatBastard · 12/03/2015 20:11

I originally discovered Terry Pratchett in 1993 and he has been my firm favourite ever since. Such a cruel disease.

ComeInSitDownCallTheCatBastard · 12/03/2015 20:12

PS- slight name change from me (normally MyCatIsAStupidBastard but I'm chanelling Nanny Ogg and Greebo)

Hassled · 12/03/2015 20:13

It is such sad news. I was a latecomer to the wonderfulness of Terry Pratchett - I wish I'd read him years ago. But some of my happiest memories of reading to my younger DCs are of Maurice and of the Wee Free Men.
