And probably watches a couple or three hours some days, but usually less and often none. I have no problem with TV being "on in the background" though. Not many 2.6yos can name many dinosaurs and have known their alphabet since they were 23mo, eh - who says TV teaches you nothing?

hunkermunker · 23/10/2006 00:31

I think it's the repetitive nature of it - DS1 LOVES the theme tune and has done since he was a tiny baby (made bfeeding interesting as he'd crane to look at the TV when I was watching it and forget to let go ). He also loves clocks, letters and numbers. He will spell out road signs as we're walking along - similar font to Countdown, I suppose!

fussymummy · 23/10/2006 01:14

Mine don't get to watch as much as the'd like to.

Especially since i took away the spare tv in the dining room (as they always wanted to watch tv whilst eating).

I also have a lock on the tv in the living room, so they have to ask us before they're allowed tv. Hee, hee, hee, we win!!!!!!!

My kids love zoo vet, trauma, supernanny, anthea, etc.....

throckenholt · 23/10/2006 07:50

very little (mainly because the times don't suit us and we don't have freeview etc).

We have videoed some like Come Outside, Tikkabilla, Rosie and Jim, Tots TV - and they maybe average an hour a day of that - but it is very much more erratic than that - very little in the summer, and more when the weather is bad, or they are ill - so it tends to be more of a winter thing.

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 23/10/2006 07:53

none

too lazy to set up the freeview box

ludaloo · 23/10/2006 07:55

Mine watch it first thing in the morning whilst eating breccie.
My dd1 then goes to school so she sees very little
My ds likes Tiny POP (how annoying is that!!!!!!)
My dd2 is too small to pay much attention!
They all love the song though which comes on before CBEEBIES starts (on the cbeebies channel)They all sit mesmorised by it!
It just makes me peeved as I realise how early it actually is

sniff · 23/10/2006 07:58

Mine went through fazes at the moment none not interested in TV because he is more interested with causing mayhem!!!!
other times he likes watching thomas DVDS and sometimes he can watch beebies for an hour straight but he soon gets bored and runs off

mornings til 9 , then after school for a bit of winding down, then off til after dinner in pjs nearly bedtime, so that oculd be 3hours for a 4 & 2. but as hunker mentioned its not like it goes in one ear and out the other, they have learned stuff from it.

SpookyMadMummy · 23/10/2006 08:11

an hour in the morning

Flumpybumpy · 23/10/2006 08:18

Enough so I know all the words to the Balamory songs!!

HallgerdaLongcloak · 23/10/2006 08:23

None - no telly here.

Callisto · 23/10/2006 08:59

Very occasional rugby or cricket with her father but other than that no tv at all. Since seeing sister-in-laws young children reduced to a zombie-like trance by tv (no idea what programme) the decision not to let dd watch it was an easy one to make.

There is also research that watching tv, particularly adverts, has adverse effects on the brain development of babies and young children.

TheBlonde · 23/10/2006 09:09

2 hrs, he would prefer more, I would prefer less

I have to switch off the TV at the socket as he keeps turning it back on again

BudaBeast · 23/10/2006 09:09

None.

Because we can't get it!

Lots of Nick Jr and Tiny Pops though!!

Pinotmum · 23/10/2006 09:11

Lots

BudaBeast · 23/10/2006 09:14

Callisto - funny how we come to our decisions isn't it? I am relaxed about TV viewing TBH but one of my reasons is that I have a friend who is very strict about the amount of TV her children watch and they are obsessed and will watch anything - I like to think my more relaxed attitude (OK I'm lazy and like when DS is watchign TV!!) will end up with DS being more choosy about what he watches!!!!

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 23/10/2006 09:16

Quite a lot, sometimes it is on in the background most of the day but that is because I am trying to work.

Flamebat · 23/10/2006 09:17

About 20 mins a week....

(now Nick Jr and Playhouse Disney is an entirely different story!

Hours upon hours at the moment (but then it's potty training week, we're stuck indoors and otherwise we would all lose the will to live )

Other days anywhere between half an hour to 2 hours depending on a load of factors. I'm not too worried about it, tbh - at least while it's Cbeebies and not mindless cartoons.
