none, they are watching toonami, pokemon

expatinscotland · 23/10/2006 09:31

a whole lot.

tigertum · 24/10/2006 22:14

I'm relieved by this thread as my DS is such a telly addict at the moment. It's only beebies he's interested in. I've managed to cut his telly down to just late afternoon, but today we had a setback when he turned the telly on himself and then fiddled with the buttons and somehow managed to tune in the sky channel which was of course on beebies! I let him have his victory though and so he had some extra tv time.

I sometimes wonder if day-long beebies isn't such a great idea.

Wish he liked Deal or No Deal - I used to love that programme!

waaaay too much.

numberjacks is teaching him to recognise numbers though.

[scrapes barrell in order not to feel totally guilty].

we also do loads and loads of stuff together (cooking, cleaning, museum, park, shops, dominoes, puzzles, reading).

really really feel guilty about it as it goes against everything i wanted to do for him....but i just need the relief it gives me, and he does love it at the moment.

only ever watches cbeebies, never seen an ad.

Bozza · 24/10/2006 22:21

Virtaully none for either of them.

Dottydot · 24/10/2006 22:31

During the week, not much - probably an hour a day from about 5pm until tea time at 6pm. During the weekend, much, much more... Probably about 3 hours a day on and off. Ahem.

Olihan · 24/10/2006 22:38

Weekdays: An hour or so first thing in the morning while I tidy/make breakfast/sort washing/do bits of housework, then usually half an hour or so when I'm cooking dinner just to keep them out from under my feet.

Weekends when dh is in charge: Whole different story and the basis of many repetitive rows!!!

MacdogOnElmStreet · 24/10/2006 22:40

I tend to have tv on in background a lot
If cbeebies is on, i like it to be something to sing along with,eg something special(esp for makaton). I like to sing along and do actions with her, try not to let it be passive.

Moomin · 24/10/2006 22:56

school days - between 30 mins and 1 hour usually when we get home from school for some breathing space and maybe when i'm doing the tea.

weekends/holidays - up to 2 hours some days, none on others, depends what we're doing. I don't object to it at all, she's picked up loads of stuff from it. I don't like the commercial channels though, the programmes don't seem as well made and i hate the adverts.

I'm dreading her thinking she's too old for it soon if all her school mates are watching other channels and think cbeebies is 'babyish'. Hopefully we can keep it going as dd2 is only a year old and that can be our excuse!

NOMurDErousPLUME · 24/10/2006 23:00

10 minutes a day - Charlie & Lola

We never watch Cbeebies otherwise though. Nick Jnr and Nicktoons are the channels of choice

FreakyFloss · 24/10/2006 23:31

I can't really answer this. Some days none some days half an hour to an hour, some days twice, some days two to three hours at a time. Basic answer is IMO, when I am home and in control, not too much!

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 24/10/2006 23:32

Moving away from Cbeebies more to Nick Jr (Lazy Town & Dora [barf]) and Boomerang (constant bloody Scoobie [double barf]). Normally have it on when I/DP cooking (45 mins?). They got rather spoilt when I was heavily pregnant/new baby - DTD2 would sleep with remote if she could!!!

I have to admit they had it on for 3hrs today whilst I de-liced them. At least it helps them sit still.

Also addicted to Brainiac & Our family (AKA 'Funny Program')....

....Runs & hides.

handlemecarefully · 24/10/2006 23:34

1-3 hours. Good batting average is 2 hours.

threebob · 25/10/2006 00:39

None - but only because we don't have it here!

In winter he watches 1 DVD (so 70-90 mins) in summer very often nothing at all as he's playing outside.

Friday afternoon is always movie date though as I'm tired from working. I'm working through every Disney children's movie ever made and it's brilliant.

GooseyLoosey · 25/10/2006 08:27

Never thought I would say this - but not enough! Less than an hour a week.

DS will not sit still to watch more than 5 mins which is exhausting and sometimes I would like to just leave him sitting calmly in front of it while I try and acheive 1 task. DD would happily sit there if left to her own devices, but is subverted by DS.

Is it possible to train them?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 25/10/2006 08:34

Far too much and Im not overly embarrassed. Jessica has learnt so much from cbeebies.

It is on all day in the background - isnt always being watched.... if I totalled how much she actually sat and watched it would average at about 2 hours at most. Its on but she plays, colours, sleeps, eats etc without watching it!

KTeepee · 25/10/2006 08:38

Well it's half term here and youngest has chickenpox so it's on a lot as we are housebound - but only cbeebies. Tend to not let them watch anything with ads (though I do record Dora on Saturday mornings for them from whatever channel it is on..)

threebob · 25/10/2006 09:11

j&r's mummy - why have it on if she isn't watching it - doesn't it just irritate you?

marymillington · 25/10/2006 09:12

not enough - freeview box is broken.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 25/10/2006 09:16

i guess ive got the stage where i ignore it now! Its never on loud enough to hear properly anyway!! Im usually busy doing housework or on here or playing with them to notice!!!

schneebly · 25/10/2006 09:29

some days none - some days up to 2 hours. I will usually (on a day we are mostly in the house) put it on for a little while after breakfast then again when I am cooking the dinner. Sometimes I will watch the odd thing when they are there but usually it doesnt interest them - they have a LOT of toys in our sitting room (clear out required!)

Cappuccino · 25/10/2006 09:39

We used to call Cbeebies 'the nanny'

some days they'll watch a lot, maybe 2-3 hours, some days not so much. dd2 however has got into the habit of just going and turning the tv on and then wandering off so it's on more than I'd maybe like

I'm bored of Cbeebies tbh. Charlie and Lola and Lazytown are dd1's faves but she's six now (today in fact) and she'll still sit through all the other stuff defiantly because it's familiar

a lot of CBBC is just too old

at what age do they make the transition to CBBC? I think DD is a bit old for Cbeebies now at 6.5, but ds (3) is still into it so they watch it together. She likes some of the CBBC progs like Raven and Tracy Beaker.

allhallows · 25/10/2006 10:41

Same here, unquietdad. My dd is 6 & ds 3 & it's a battle over who watches what. Ds is going through the Dora stage while dd can't stand Dora anymore (I don't blame her). They both liked Little Bear and Little Bill, Angelina Ballerina... but those "sweet" ones have gone. I don't want them watching anything violent or too cheeky and they only like cartoons. I think Cartoon Network is dangerous. What can anyone suggest? I need them to watch for about half an hour a day while I make dinner.
