I am a long time lurker and occasional poster but I have to stick my head above the parapet and say that I am truly gutted that wickedwaterwitch has been hounded off of MN. I've been a member for 2.5 years and time and again, I have seen her help numerous posters (myself included) and generally post in a generous, thoughtful and funny way.

Many posters have said "oh, we always have phases like this, it'll calm down again" but tbh, I wonder whether it will. The aggression with which many people are posting at the moment quite literally takes my breath away - for example, it used to be that swearing at someone on a thread was a last resort; now, it's normal and quite often, it's the first thing people contribute.

For me, I think Enid's right - it's time for a break. I really hope www returns - if she leaves for good like aloha, MN will be a poorer place.

Well done Rhubarb and Chocolate Queen for adding some common sense here.

I don't know who www is and I haven't read any of the threads on which she has posted but I thought this thread was a spoof at first - all these "old timers" saying we were here first, how dare other people come on and comment, place going to the dogs, Offended of Tunbridge Wells says we should all cancel our subscription to private eye.

If MN becomes less clique and "the old timers" flouce off I think it would be a good thing since I find these people often stifle debate. I hate these constant "in-references" to Cod (nothing personal, no idea who you are or why a small number of others posters bring up your name constantly), and other posters I've never heard of, that are added to any and all threads. Let the silent majority on to open up debate.

lol, that post should get things cooking nicely!

Greensleeves · 22/10/2006 00:21

Um - WWW would be the last person to "stifle debate". Quite the reverse in fact, as you would know if you had the slightest idea what happened to make her feel like leaving. Your post suggests a rather two-dimensional attitude to the whole situation.

soapbox · 22/10/2006 00:25

Firemaiden - you know you can always go and find yourself another site - if this one isn't to your liking

SamhainWitch · 22/10/2006 00:26

This has nothing to do with 'newbies' or oldies' or non-existent cliques.

It is about a lack of politeness, fore thought and sensitivity to peoples feelings that seems to be prevalent in a vast number of posts at the moment.

"If MN becomes less clique and "the old timers" flouce off I think it would be a good thing since I find these people often stifle debate."

Nice way to make friends and influence people.

Don't rise to the bait and give her the satisfaction

GhoulsToo · 22/10/2006 00:29

it's not like anyone can physically stop any other person posting - you can't even hear them shouting at their computers - how are they stifling debate. If you want to make your point get typing - do it in bold if you must!

why am I bothering, I don't think I care anymore ......

Clary · 22/10/2006 00:35

I too had missed that WWW was leaving but she is a valued poster and I will miss her too.

Clary · 22/10/2006 00:36

I am pleased I refrained from rising to firemaiden's bait....

Schokofruhstucksflockenhasseri · 22/10/2006 00:40

firemaiden has got some genuine points though. MN can sound cliquey because so many people know each other, either from chatting on here or in real life.
I think that happened around 2-3 years ago.

firemaiden, I dont see the problem with having a thread discussing rudeness though. It would be nice is everyone read it and took heed before they flamed.

mummisery · 22/10/2006 00:57

Have to admit i havent read the thread but have heard alot about WWW lately who was she and why has she gone she was obviously well liked

FreakyFloss · 22/10/2006 12:26

Well Firemaiden. There is a name to remember and avoid for me!
