I am a long time lurker and occasional poster but I have to stick my head above the parapet and say that I am truly gutted that wickedwaterwitch has been hounded off of MN. I've been a member for 2.5 years and time and again, I have seen her help numerous posters (myself included) and generally post in a generous, thoughtful and funny way.

Many posters have said "oh, we always have phases like this, it'll calm down again" but tbh, I wonder whether it will. The aggression with which many people are posting at the moment quite literally takes my breath away - for example, it used to be that swearing at someone on a thread was a last resort; now, it's normal and quite often, it's the first thing people contribute.

For me, I think Enid's right - it's time for a break. I really hope www returns - if she leaves for good like aloha, MN will be a poorer place.

I'm presuming no more 'fcuk offs' will be allowed from here on in either then?

NOMurDErousPLUME · 19/10/2006 09:38

WHAT ???? WWW has gone ?

Come back when/if you want to.

SamhainWitch · 19/10/2006 09:50

There are quite a few deleted messages (let alone a deleted thread) that demonstrate how nasty this issue got.

WWW is going on holiday. I am still hoping she will reconsider and come back to MN when she is home.

harpsichordcarrion · 19/10/2006 12:34

fattymamma - it wasn't just one person, or one post.

Callisto · 19/10/2006 13:50

Hellmouthcusty - I am assuming that you are referring to me when you say: 'the person who was rude was calista'. Perhaps a link to the relevant thread so that I can defend myself?

It is certainly never my intention to personally insult anyone on here, MN has been a very useful resource, not only for info about babies but for intellectual stimulation and debate and I have had (and I hope given) some excellent advice. I know that I can be abrasive but I really cannot recall being so vicious as to be described as 'hounding' someone. I had no idea that WWW had left and even less that I could be the cause of it.

Greensleeves · 19/10/2006 13:53

There was a poster called "Calista", definitely not Callisto.

zippitippitoes · 19/10/2006 13:58

Callisto I think we need to register all similar versions of names so that people don't get confuesd..there are loads of near soundalikes now with so many memebers

harpsichordcarrion · 19/10/2006 13:59

yes, the poster custy refers to is called calista

fennel · 19/10/2006 13:59

Calista and Callisto are both lovely names though (I know I'm way off topic here....)

fennel · 19/10/2006 14:03

ha, have killed a serious thread with inanity. sorry.

it's cos I'm terrified of posting anything serious any more.

Callisto · 19/10/2006 14:22

Well phew, I am mightily relieved. Never come across Calista myself hence the confusion.

Fennel, I think Fennel is a lovely name too.

CalistaMyers · 19/10/2006 19:51

Er, there's no way I'm shouldering the blame for this one!

I wasn't one of the ones who was name-calling on the 9 yr old thread, or any other of the subsequent threads. I made one (admittedly childish ) comment when www had already said she was leaving, and now other posters seem to be saying it was my rudeness that saw www off!
That wasn't the case at all.

SamhainWitch · 19/10/2006 20:12

1 person has mentioned you Calista.

CalistaMyers · 19/10/2006 20:18

And my name was then reiterated several times by other posters clarifying my name, which made it seem worse!

I am entitled to defend myself SW, whether one poster or 10 posters commented on me.

Tortington · 19/10/2006 20:45

i dont think other posters are - you made comments before she said she was of then the " dont let the door hit you ont he way out" stuff

it was just all very personal and unnecessary

now i would like to clarify this is my own singular opinion on the reading of the password protected room thread.

i refer only to this thread and no others. and i do not include extenuating circumstances surrounding other people on other threads which i have not read.

now fio seemed to think she was responsible - on reading that specific thread i thought the rudest person to WWW was you actually.

however other people may have different opinions.

this is the last i will say on the matter. i shall not be returning to this thread - so do carry on with yourself

CalistaMyers · 19/10/2006 20:53

Yes, I made comments before she left, none of which were offensive at all. Nothing worthy of singling out whatsoever, amongst all the rest of the stuff that was going on at that time. Just my POV, which is what a forum is for, no?

Anyway, I've made me point, I'm off too. Just wanted to clarify that I was not the sole reason why www left as I felt was being insinuated, far from it.

moondog · 19/10/2006 21:31

I posted in support of WWW (I love her-top MNer and twill never be as good without her 'Six weeks to shape up or ship out threads' and terrible weakness for Wotsits.) and it was deleted.

This fact has really pissed me off.

Ponka · 19/10/2006 21:47

Come back WWW. You are lovely.

harpsichordcarrion · 19/10/2006 21:47

what?!?
why, moondog?
"Shut the door on your way out there's a love."
see, that's not a very pleasant thing to say, is it now?

moondog · 19/10/2006 22:11

Welllll..I did refer to 'an arse of a woman' taking umbrage.

Never saw the original thread thoguh, but the opinion was obviously that I was 'judging'.

FreakyFloss · 20/10/2006 10:29

Hmm - sounds like a guilty mind to me CalistaMyers. Throwing a strop when you are at least in part responsible for WWW not being here atm. I don't see any kind of apology for what was, if nothing else a rude comment.

hulababy · 20/10/2006 10:31

I had completely missed this. Very sad when a long term MNetter fees she has to stop using the site

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/10/2006 12:36

Floss, she has admitted guilt, but, I think her justification is that she wasnt the only one, or something ..... so thats okay...or something

FreakyFloss · 21/10/2006 20:09

Pah - I have it about me today/yesterday/always. Hey its a good enough excuse for others so I am sticking to it!

Must have missed that bit though.

poppyh · 21/10/2006 23:08

I have only just seen this thread and im really saddened by it. Can understand WWW wanting to stay away tbh. Everyone should be able to have freedom of speech and respected for it.
WWW has done me a few favours, (free advice and kids stuff in the post) and she is one of the reasons i am here on MN. Shes a truly nice person.
Come back soon WWW.
