I am a long time lurker and occasional poster but I have to stick my head above the parapet and say that I am truly gutted that wickedwaterwitch has been hounded off of MN. I've been a member for 2.5 years and time and again, I have seen her help numerous posters (myself included) and generally post in a generous, thoughtful and funny way.

Many posters have said "oh, we always have phases like this, it'll calm down again" but tbh, I wonder whether it will. The aggression with which many people are posting at the moment quite literally takes my breath away - for example, it used to be that swearing at someone on a thread was a last resort; now, it's normal and quite often, it's the first thing people contribute.

For me, I think Enid's right - it's time for a break. I really hope www returns - if she leaves for good like aloha, MN will be a poorer place.

can somebody please explain?

WelshBoris · 18/10/2006 12:02

i love WWW

Piffle · 18/10/2006 12:03

not confusing her with SamhainWitch by any chance?

Leandevil · 18/10/2006 12:04

Im more of a lurker than a poster but I always read WWW posts, hope she doesn't stay away for ever.

Piffle · 18/10/2006 12:04

in witch case both are fab personages

Rhubarb · 18/10/2006 12:06

StG said she was leaving a bit ago because some people thought it was funny to insult her faiths and beliefs, but I think (hope) she's changed her mind now. I dunno about www, but it's easy for me to miss stuff cause I'm never on the right threads!

Rhubarb · 18/10/2006 12:06

Better just clarify that StG changed her name to SamhainWitch for Halloween!

mascaraohara · 18/10/2006 12:06

SHE HAS GONE??? WHAT HAPPENED?

oops sorry for caps. What a shame, have obviously missed loads lately. Still miss Aloha postings and now WWW?!

mascaraohara · 18/10/2006 12:07

StG has gone too??

BATtymumma · 18/10/2006 12:09

I have no idea why WWW has felt it necessary to leave, so cannot comment on whether she felt hounded or just wanted a break from the constant arguing.

What i would say though is that i am sad that anyone would feel MN is not somewhere they feel comfortable anymore.

I know i have posted on the SN threads that i get tired of having to efend myself so don't necessarily post on SN as often as i could but it doesn't detract from my enjoyment (most of the time) i get from teh rets of the site.

I would hope that WWW or indeed anyone else that has left, enjoys her time away from teh site and returns soon.

Blu · 18/10/2006 12:10

I am sorry to see anyone so upset / angry they wish to leave.
I am sorry that www has made that decision,

But I think 'hounded' is a bit ott...and potentially excacerbates the issue!

Tortington · 18/10/2006 12:15

if anyone can tell me why it would be appreciated.

Bozza · 18/10/2006 12:17

She announced it on the thread under site stuff discussing whether there should be a passport protected area for SN.

Tortington · 18/10/2006 12:31

what a shame www is like one of the founding fathers. posts always considered - i can't remember her ever being rude to anyone - she has an opinion - like us all but a very very considered poster.

this is a huge deal to me actually and i think calista was very very rude

soapbox · 18/10/2006 12:39

WWW - I know you won't be looking here, but I am very sorry you are leaving.

I thought that some people behaved very badly towards you on that thread - merely for having a different opinion.

The whole thread was a complete mire though! Sadly not untypical these days.

For me this place seems close to implosion at the moment - for a long time those who were long standing members have been able to 'hold it together' the sensible, considered approach usually won out.

That glue just isn't strong enough any more, for a variety of reasons and the foul mouthed, loud and impetuous posters are taking over; slowly but surely.

I actually think for me, that it has now become damaged beyond repair

well I'm sorry if anyone goes but I'm also sad at the anger that seems to have accumulated between people who have apparently rubbed along fine for years and is now well and truly bursting out everywhere..

northerner · 18/10/2006 13:31

Oh god, I didn't know she had left. I was on the 9 year old thread with her, we were both making teh same point.

She in no way offended anyone or posted anything insensitvely. She simply tried to put accross her point politely and eloquently.

Don't go www.

foxinsocks · 18/10/2006 13:35

oh soapbox

poor www

BlueBeetle · 18/10/2006 13:39

Can't believe that - WWW was one of my favourites from the old days ! Really does make me wonder why I am still here - will give that somne thought I think as the whole tone of Mumsnet has changed - I rarely post now as people either ignore you or jump on you in an aggressive manner. Life's too short.

WWW - All the best !!

tigermoth · 18/10/2006 13:50

Really sad to see WWW go. Debate is something WWW excelled in. I read the thread and did not ever think WWW was personally rude to anyone. I think mumsnet will be the poorer for her not posting and I hope she comes back.

TheDaVinciCod · 18/10/2006 13:51

i was feelin a littel fuickit last ngiht tbh about mn

TheDaVinciCod · 18/10/2006 13:52

BlueBeetle · 18/10/2006 13:52

Sometimes you've just got to move on - sometimes you outgrow things - sad but true.

I waste way too much time here now as it is - and it is less enjoyable for definite.

TheDaVinciCod · 18/10/2006 13:53

and endi si pissed off
maybe all the old timers shodul go?
