I am a long time lurker and occasional poster but I have to stick my head above the parapet and say that I am truly gutted that wickedwaterwitch has been hounded off of MN. I've been a member for 2.5 years and time and again, I have seen her help numerous posters (myself included) and generally post in a generous, thoughtful and funny way.

Many posters have said "oh, we always have phases like this, it'll calm down again" but tbh, I wonder whether it will. The aggression with which many people are posting at the moment quite literally takes my breath away - for example, it used to be that swearing at someone on a thread was a last resort; now, it's normal and quite often, it's the first thing people contribute.

For me, I think Enid's right - it's time for a break. I really hope www returns - if she leaves for good like aloha, MN will be a poorer place.

i didn't know she had gone

Kidstrack · 18/10/2006 17:20

i was bored earlier and decided to open the link to the ocean bottle, i will type what my second bottle message read that i received:
Hi all, MN has become so heated recently, no longer do people receive support but are set upon, the old timers are wiser and have read it all before, but yet newbies post a thread for support and get jumped on. I have posted for nearly 2yrs and i'm sorry to say i have left.

I wonder who posted it and what Mumsnetter it was, it had been picked up in the US before coming to me.

Bloody hell...what going on??

WWW leaving???

I'm gutted.....

LadyTophamHatt · 18/10/2006 17:28

haven't read the whole thread but just read batters post before mine and have to say I've been feeling the same.

I said on another thread recently that I feel like I'm outgrowing MN, and I think alot of poeple are feeling like this ATM.

SamhainWitch · 18/10/2006 17:28

Hounded might be a slightly strong word but I think her decision is certainly to do with comments made to her personally.

Quote from www's post:

"I disagreed with a sn parent and was widely rounded upon, told to eff off/I was boring/get a life blah blah blah. I wasn't remotely rude or abusive when putting my point whereas the people who disagreed with me most definitely were. And, imo (only, I seem to be alone on this), that wasn't on.

I'm fairly hard and don't offend that easily but still, I'm off. It was a disgusting display and it's made me angry and upset so I won't be back here. (I don't expect or want any sympathy, even if you give it I assure you I won't read it, this really is my last post - thanks for the competition and all that, which is what brought me here tonight after 2 days absence but I really am not coming back)."

cocopopshater · 18/10/2006 17:58

wow! I didnt read the original thread, but I can certainly empathise with that comment from www. There are one or two people who do seem to live perpetually on the edge, and one of them was fairly vicious to me on one of the SN threads that spilled over into the rest of MN.
I understand that this woman is under a lot of stress, but I dont think she'd want my life, either.
WWW, Id miss you too, hope you will reconsider and post again. Even if you get attacked like that, there are plenty of people who support you - its just that they probably werent around at the time!

taMummy · 18/10/2006 18:19

I am deeply sorry that www has gone, and I can see why she went. I agree with soapbox an others, this is the worst period I've ever seen on MN, in nearly 4 years.

roisin · 18/10/2006 18:25

I'm shocked and saddened at this. I've no idea what's gone on, as I only flit on here briefly these days. But I've been talking to www on here for years, and it's not what I expect from her.

roisin · 18/10/2006 18:26

I mean by that she's a tough character and not easily offended, so something dreadful must have happened.

harpsichordcarrion · 18/10/2006 18:30

oh tamum
god this is really sad now isnt it?
I mean, www?!?!? doesn't make any bloody sense to me, it really doesn't.

taMummy · 18/10/2006 18:34

No, completely agree harpsi. Very sad

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/10/2006 19:54

i hope she comes back, i really do

Tinker · 18/10/2006 19:56

No idea why www's gone but if she has for good.

foulmoonfiend · 18/10/2006 20:00

shocked saddened and feeling forlorn.

GreenSepticStumps · 18/10/2006 20:04

Isn't there anything that can be done about this? She can't just leave.

I am really mixed up about this whole row, it's just horrendous for everyone.

GhoulsToo · 18/10/2006 20:05

I'm sorry www has felt the need to leave. Can't say I always agree with her but what does that matter, that's what it's all about, the cut and thrust of debate.

Seems like mn is getting like life in the outside world - watch what you say because some jobsworth will have you!

I'm a bit surprised she's left over this issue tbh, where's yer fighting spirit witchy

Today's news, tomorrow's chip wrapper and all that!

Come back now!

GreenSepticStumps · 18/10/2006 20:14

well said beefy

GhoulsToo · 18/10/2006 20:15
Grin
Blandmum · 18/10/2006 20:18

I'm with tamummy on this one. I do hope that www comes back soon. I value her posts and will miss her greatly.

I also agree that is a very 'odd' time on mn. I've been posting for about 5 years now, and it has never been like this before

CountessDracula · 18/10/2006 20:19

ffs

this is getting ridiculous

WWW i am very very saddened to see this

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 18/10/2006 20:20

everyone else has said everything else, really

GreenSepticStumps · 18/10/2006 20:22

I've only been here since Christmas - WWW was one of the first people to make me laugh. I can't believe anyone wants her to leave, really.

tigermoth · 18/10/2006 20:23

If you think there's a change about mumsnet, is it because inevitably more people know each other in real life? More difficult to disagree with someone you are RL friends andr expect to see again and easier to have a gang mentality, if you are meeting a group of people regularly.

ELF1981 · 18/10/2006 20:24

My introduction to mumsnet was buying the mumsnet on pregnancy book. Seeing things by WWW was part of the reason I thought I'd check it out.
Not sure 100% what has happened, but will be sorrt to see her go if she stays away
