Modesty at Gymnastic club

My DD(10) attends a large local gymnastics club and DH normally picks her up after. This wk I picked her up and was taken back by the dress of some of the older boys who share the same gym space. This boys aged probably between 14-17 have very well developed muscular bodies, however they do not wear any gym vest/tops etc Its a large gym area with several classes going on at once. I am right to feel a little weird about them parading around like this in full view of young girls and boys. Would love to hear your thoughts.

What they wear for their class is between them and their instructors.

(if they are not doing gymnastics, and are really there just to parade, then ask a coach why that is permitted)

Boys don't wear top in the swimming pool either...

The men at ours wear leotards with bulges aplenty. So they are not exactly covered up. But neither are the females.

They should have some kind of vest/top on. This isn't my daughters club, but they should have a code of conduct like this

Female leotards are pretty skimpy.

It's just like being in the swimming pool surely as said upthread?

Some are there for class, others for extra practice on their on time and a few help out with the younger boys, however in between they do tend to "wonder around" I understand for swimming boys don't wear tops but that is for a very practical reason and not the same in my opinion. What concerns me is not their muscular physic this is natural based on the training they are doing. I just don't see the need for it to be honest. I'm not a prude but just feel its a little inappropriate especially when the girls of a similar age are encouraged to "cover up" when not actually training i.e waiting for class, their turn for apparatus etc.

Very strange view. What about when she sees boys/men in the swimming pool or on the beach or simply just walking around topless in the sun.

I thought this was going to be a post about skimpy leotards with no knickers or something (which I know used to cause some concern amongst some parents at our gymnastics club).

Wouldn't bother my DD. The boys at dance regularly have their tops around their waist between lessons, but they do have to wear a vest for the lesson.

Unless you're worrying about adults fancying the Young men?

They wear less in the swimming pool and in Europe they wear the smallest speedos possible so you can see plenty of balls and tiny knobs in the cold swimming pool.

I don't think op is being a prude here it's about what is appropriate and expected in certain settings. Male gymnasts are expected to wear a best or t shirt. I'd be a bit Hmm if this wasn't happening in the same way I would if I went to my local gym or golf course and people were walking around with their tops off.

I don't think I'm odd in the slightest , its just an opinion and I've probably just read a bit too much into it that's all. We go swimming most weeks and normally use the communal changing room and have never given it a second thought in that scenario same goes for holidays etc. Maybe its the behaviour of the boys i.e the walking around with seemingly no purpose annoys me rather than the no top issue?

Former (not very good) gymnast here.

The reason the girls will be encouraged to cover up is that it's important your muscles don't get cold in between procedures- more chance of strains etc if that happens. It won't be about modesty.

The boys might just be showing off their muscles - the same strain risk applies to them.

To be honest, this is unlikely to be an issue outside of your own head. The young kids won't even notice - adolescent girls and boys would still be hormonal if they all had to wear coverall tracksuits.

In gymnastics, accidents happen most when there is a distraction.

People shouldn't be wandering round for that reason. Not because of attire (or absence of attire).

DS1 isn't a gymnast, but is incredibly muscly. Tbh he'd need more than a vest to cover it up!

I think it is a really odd attitude to have. Why do you think they should cover up?

At no point did I say they should cover up but I do believe they should wear appropriate clothing for what they are doing. Gymnastic vest tops could hardly be described as covering up but are appropriate attire.
Have to say I am feeling a little attacked here for what was supposed to be a very open question.

No-one is attacking you, people don't share your believes. You can think they should wear a vest, but obviously the gym club don't think they so.
