What do you think of the names Lula , Iris, Violet and Pearl?

Iris and Violet run a teashop, with lace tablecloths. They like to have a dry sherry around 6pm.Pearl is the bartender in a nearby Country & Western bar, a wise old bird. Lula is Pearl's niece and helps out at weekends, confiding in Pearl about all of her latest sagas with men.

Pearl has discovered that Iris and Violet are selling home-made hooch from the back door of the teashop, some sort of Earl Grey flavoured poteen in old sherry bottles

Yes, Pruni's right, Lula is Stephanie Plum's sidekick in the Janet Evanovitch books. A BIIIIIIG black girl with a fondness for too-tight fluorescent lycra, shopping and doughnuts. Used to be a ho' till she got badly damaged by a psychopath. Hope I'm not putting you off. She is a lovely person and very drole, but who I immediately thought when I saw the name as she is the only Lula I've ever heard of.

I live in Brazil where the president's name is Lula! Sorry but it just conjours up images of a fat man with a grey beard!

HI, i have justjoined and i laughed at the conversation topic because i have 3 children and live near Brighton. I have 2 dd's one called Iris who is nearly 6 (chose tha name BEFORE Sadie Frost btw) and the other Pearl who is 15 months, so i clearly love the names!
Like Violet too.
Lula is a bit too nicknamey for a formal name i think.

Don't like Lula, that's another name for fanjo isn't it? Don't like Fanny either for the same reason . Pretty sure there'd be several references to Pearl in the Viz Profanisaurus too.

What a great thread - I always find it fascinating how people's opinions vary so greatly on names. FWIW I think Lula would get constantly misspelt as Lula as its such an unusual name, and Pearl would have to be seriously cool to carry it off - it just wouldn't work if she was hideously fat and ugly, Violet I love and is in fact dd's middle name, and Iris is a bit blue-rinsey.
