Hazel is lovely

lulumama · 14/10/2006 08:40

my daughters nickname is lula / lulabelle!!

violet - yes
iris - yes
pearl - no - my 87 year old great auntie is called pearl!

only problem with these old fashioned but fashionable names is that could become a little dated ...they are lovely though...you need to pick the name you like that suits your baby and your surname....

NannyStar · 14/10/2006 08:41

Lula and Violet are lovely lovely lovely...in fact, I have Lula (but spelt Loula) on my list of baby names.

lulumama · 14/10/2006 08:41

that must mean we are bonkers........!

scarymaryme · 14/10/2006 08:44

my dd nickname is also lula/lulabell!! (her name is lucy)
I love pearl! Would they all go with the surname ok?

NannyStar · 14/10/2006 08:46

Lula and Violet are lovely lovely lovely...in fact, I have Lula (but spelt Loula) on my list of baby names, expect I don't plan to have a baby in the near future as I don't even have a partner at the mo but working on it!

NannyStar · 14/10/2006 08:48

Hazel always reminds me of that sweet rabbit from Watership Down but it is a cute name. I like Lily and Ruby too...could you maybe pop in a middle name to funk the old fashioned names up a bit?

lulumama · 14/10/2006 08:49

ditto scary - ! thought we were being so original with her real name and nickname!!!!!!!

scarymaryme · 14/10/2006 08:53

lulu...its funny isn't it! must be hundred of little Lucy Lulas out there!

EnidVorhees · 14/10/2006 09:27

I like them all

Pearl sounds like fabulous old black lady with amazing hat and lots of common sense

DumbledoresGirl · 14/10/2006 09:31

Can't stand any of them, but why should my opinion matter?

Why do people feel the need to run their name ideas past others? I never did (and they are probably all still talking about my choice of names to this day, but who cares?)

wafer · 14/10/2006 09:31

Lula is actually a very traditional old name in the States, like Violet etc e.g. Lula Mae Barnes ( of holly Golightly fame)

dumbledores girl, just an experiment to illustrate the great diversity of opinion surrounding a set of names, i love them all, and have already made my choice so there!

Good for you wafer. No offence intended! Note I am not revealing my children's names - not brave enough to take the flak!

lulumama · 14/10/2006 09:44

i won't give you any flack at all.. i bet they are gorgeous and good for you for having the courage of your convictions to choose an unusual / different name....

we had a different name picked out for DD - but when we told people, we kept having to repeat it and spell it...so went with the straightforward name DS chose and use the other name as her middle name..

curlew · 14/10/2006 09:56

I sometimes worry about those ultra feminine names - like Pearl which I think is lovely btw - what would it like to be a lumpen teenages with spots called Violet? My girl is called Grace - and so far so goot, but we are fast heading into puberty and it could still turn out to have been a cruel mistake!

Troutpout · 14/10/2006 10:11

mmm
i love violet and Iris. I like lots of late 19th century popular names... (called dd one of them).Don't like lula at all (sorry)
I nearly said the other day on a post that i didn't think Pearl would ever come back...Wrong !. Not overly keen on that one
I like Florence, Ruby, and Ester a lot

zippitippitoes · 14/10/2006 10:15

well I don't like any of them really I'm afraid but as others have said it's yoiur opinion that counts

Lula makes me think of the hul hula girl in south pacific

Iris iris murdoch a bit learned and dull

Violet a talcum powder scented old lady

Pearl very old fashioned..is there a pearl in emmerdale?

LadyTophamHatt · 14/10/2006 10:18

if this baby I'm growing atm had of been a girl she would have been called Eliza Iris.

Don't like any of the others, just Iris.
