DH sick now too Sad

Work is quiet. I love Christmas! I'm verging on poncetastic with the homemade stuff but it's all fun. DH and I are cooking dinner this year and having family round. Although after I am dying to get the decorations down and everything cleared up by New Years Day.

NotEvenAnEnormouseStirred · 14/11/2014 10:44

Morning.

I had a night like Helen's minus the snot. Both mice are sniffle free at last
But they both ended up in bed with us around 4am.

Nah I'm a Christmas lover. But I take badders approach.
Do all shopping online. Apart from the Occasional gander to look at the German market.
Christmas dinner is just a roast with extras.
Watch Tim Burton's batman on Christmas eve.
Try and avoid spending too much time with extended family

malc hope you have a good time.
And loving the seasonal name changes.

Badvocinapeartree · 14/11/2014 10:55

I prefer to celebrate advent rather than Xmas iyswim?
So I like to plan things for the whole of December...Panto, crib service, baking etc
Xmas is just one day after all.
And I prefer Xmas eve anyway :)

Badvocinapeartree · 14/11/2014 10:56

Sorry about your Dh lyndie...have you succumbed yet?
I feel pretty crap but it's lack of sleep I think.
Just hoping ds1 doesn't come down with it.
Dh is home!
Not sure he is that pleased to be home at the house of vom

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/11/2014 11:15

Can you retire for a nap Badders and leave DH to it?

I know what you mean about advent, I love it too.

Its kind of crap this year because DH needs and wants to keep going up to see his Dad, but his Dad can't cope with the DSs (Christmas Day is going to be hard work :() so he goes on his own which means me spending another with them blah blah. Ugh I'm trying so hard not to be selfish about it but the man - FIL - has barely given a shit about any of us over the last few years and certainly never really made an effort with the kids. I feel like I need to pray in the hope that someone up there will help me practise forgiveness.

:(

Badvocinapeartree · 14/11/2014 11:21

Jut going to suggest it Ali!
That Seems a bit unfair of your Dh tbh...
Could he go on his own at new year instead?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/11/2014 11:42

No we'll all be going at Christmas, it's just the weekends in between which are a pain. Just realised that I didn't explain it very well! We are having Christmas mark II with my parents and brother at mum and dad's on Boxing Day which will be good and the DSs ca play loudly with their new stuff then.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 14/11/2014 11:43

Have done two loads of washing. House smells of damp clothes.

On the plus side, getting up from my computer and hanging washing up appears to have warmed me up slightly - that and the hot chocolate.

WW - saw this and thought of you...

saw this and thought of *Sparkle, purely because of its name.

lyndie · 14/11/2014 11:48

Ali while you're here, I Googled 'preparing Christmas veg in advance' and there was a thread from 2011 where you said you froze homemade roasties etc can you share your method?

TheSwedishChristmasMeatball · 14/11/2014 11:48

Do you use electric candelabras and electric advent stars for decorating? It's at must in Sweden Smile So you celebrate on Christmas day? With stockings and everything? It's like in the movies Grin We celebrate on Christmas eve.

Personally I don't really celebrate Christmas anymore, it's not that important to me. And I refuse to spend Christmas eve with relatives I've hardly ever meet, it's so boring.

My mum and I will probably have a nice Christmas lunch (semi-vegetarian), perhaps do some shopping in the few stores that are open, and then I will spend the rest of the day on the couch with my cats munching on chocolate, watching telly Grin

I like the celebrating of advent, sometimes there's fika at a friend's place with pepparkakor, lussebullar and glögg Smile

TheSwedishChristmasMeatball · 14/11/2014 11:50

Helen that's really cute Smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/11/2014 11:53

Helen - get a dehumidifier, best £100 I,ve ever spent.

Lyndie - ooh that's a blast from the past!! Mum and I have always done it, parboil and leave to cool so they go a bit fluffy, then freeze, and then take them out of the freezer before bed on Christmas eve do they defrost slowly and straight into the roasting tin. Cuts out a lot of faffing and washing up on the day. Same with pigs in blankets except we cook those before freezing and then they only need to go in the oven for a little while after the turkey is out.

RumpledElkSkin · 14/11/2014 11:55

I eating toast and chocolate spread. Shameless.

Oblomov · 14/11/2014 11:56

parboiling and freezing potatoes eh?

just done a re-watch of 1.

Just doing 2.

TheSwedishChristmasMeatball · 14/11/2014 11:58

I've never had chocolate spread, might get addicted to that too Grin

RumpledElkSkin · 14/11/2014 12:19

Om nom nom

TheSwedishChristmasMeatball · 14/11/2014 12:22
NotEvenAnEnormouseStirred · 14/11/2014 13:10

Ali that sounds tough. Can you do alternate weekends?

Oh and my new helmets arrived Grin . It is beautiful. I'm sat wearing it and looking like I freelance for daft punk.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 14/11/2014 13:25

Mouse really - you're sitting indoors wearing your new helmet? Mad woman Grin

Still cold here. The benefits of hanging the washing are fading and the cold's seeping back into my bones.....

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/11/2014 13:32

Yes, ali is right on the money, helen. You need a dehumidifier and possibly Lakeland heated dryer. Or you could move to Poland where flats/ houses are properly ventilated and everything dries over night without aid of any contraptions Hmm

Sparklegeek · 14/11/2014 13:36

A FUCKING RAT AT MY BACK DOOR!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/11/2014 13:39

[buckets] to lyndie and badvoc. Your household vomits are incomparably tougher to ours last night. How do you deal with the beddings? Do you just have lots for the little ones or do you keep them head down the toilet for voms?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/11/2014 13:40

Admit it, was he more scared than you, Sparkle? GrinShock

Sparklegeek · 14/11/2014 13:43

Well he ran fast, Drink. Now I've got to go down the end of the garden where he lives to get something.

Where's a frigging Musketeer when you need one? Lying on a hot beach somewhere, that's where.

Actually, scrap the going down the garden, I'm going to have a think about Santi sunbathing first

NotEvenAnEnormouseStirred · 14/11/2014 13:52

Dp will be lucky if I don't wear it to bed helen Grin.

But not in your kitchen sparkle?
