Well things are much calmer today. It's all gravy, man.

I am taking MrMalc out for lunch today to a garden centre. We are both practicing being 85. Just to see if we really are compatible for the future! I'm going to drive there at 40mph sitting as close to the steering wheel as possible. He is gong to sit next to me telling me to "look out there's a car!!" And "bad corner!". Then when we get there we will take a trolley and shuffle really slowly right in the middle of all the aisles. We will have a heated discussion about geraniums. We will buy a tasteless garden ornament which he will be outraged at but I will insist is the most delightful thing I've ever seen. The. We will go for lunch, we will take 20 minutes trying to chose what we are eating and another 10 minutes trying to pay for it. We will complain about levels of salt being too much/not enough. Then we will drive home again at 40mph!

Ooooh Doctor Who on Children in Need tonight! It's not even a week and already I miss him I am very relieved that Atlantis starts tomorrow and fills the Saturday nigh tv drama void nicely! Otherwise if sit there crying into my Prosecco hopelessly remembering how Saturday nights used to be.

Christmas? No, I hate it. My Christmases past are full of disasters, bad memories, family rows, and general upsets. I've even written them down in the form of Friends titles, you know, The One When... etc. It fills two A4 pages and is actually quite funny (and nostalgic) to read. I've cooked 40-something Christmas dinners and I would really, really love to do nothing at Christmas. I know it's a compliment that everyone wants to come to us on Christmas Day, but......

God, I sound a right misery, here are some more pics.

Malc.....that sounds like the perfect day out to me......i.e. you've gone out of the house with each other, and (here's the crucial bit) NO kids.

I like the idea of christmas....the stylised, twinkly lit, cherubic children angelically singing carols by the light of a candle lantern. The realty however - hours in the kitchen, masses of cleaning up, food shopping in a massive scrum, house guests that don't lift a finger and expect to be waited on hand and foot - not so much.

Ah.
You see....I don't do Xmas angst.
Food from m & s of the lob it in the oven variety and ready peeled veg :)
I make sure all gifts and cards are done by end of nov.
I don't like shopping, and the thought of going shopping in December...no. Just...no.
I try to be laid back about it.
It's Xmas...not the Normandy landings :)

Bleurgh. Slept badly. DS woke again at 3am, came into our bed ("There's no-one to huggle me in mine!!!)- squirmed for 1.5 hours, I kicked him out at 4:30. He gets to wake up at 6:30 all full of beans and happiness (apart from fat li and snotty nose) DH gets to sleep in until I wake him up (because I need to get dressed) at 8:20.

Sympathies to all ill and generally miserable wenches and mini-wenches. Malc I love your romantic day out trialing OAP-ness

I am partially organised for Christmas, have bought a few presents, vaguely planned some food. We aren't actually here for Christmas dinner, but for the first time we will be here for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning - I've never not woken up in my childhood bedroom on Christmas Day before (pathetic I know..) and the thought has me a bit wobbly, but i'm excited about doing stockings etc here for the DCs
