Having re-read The Half Blood Prince last week, I think he is on the right side, but no-one agrees with me! Anyone else sad enough to have an opinion on this?

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:01

I am not sure if my link explains this, but I think Dumbledore either is not dead (merely stunned hit with a "living death" curse - mentioned somewhere) or else he is dead but Snape killed him on his own orders. Snape is a goody otherwise the whole series is rubbish. I am also wondering if Dumbledore has a horcrux of his own (and thus is not fully dead). He is known to have killed Grindelwald back in the 1940s so no reason why he could not have created a horcrux himself - to protect him against the future eveil of Voldemort perhaps?

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 28/09/2006 13:03

hmmm, could harry be dumbledores horcrux?

nah, its probably hermione or something

completely agree snape acting on dumbledore's orders. But also think he is well dead.

JKR is quite big on death being the End, I think.

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:03

Oh well so he is dead (JKR - you are scum! ) but I still think his death was planned by him and has a purpose in the wider plot.

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:06

agree that it was planned and that snape did it under dumbledores orders

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:08

jk rowling has said the quetion noone has asked which is really important and crucial is why dumbledore had james potters invisibility cloak at the time of his death, when dumbledore can be invisisble without a cloak?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:09

The giveaway about Snape IMO is when he flares up when Harry calls him a coward (when he is running away from Dumbledore's death scene). He must be a double agent and must be hiding something significant from Harry (and us) which Dumbledores knew about and which required a lot of courage. This will be revealed in Book 7.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 28/09/2006 13:09

is the implication that he was talking to someone who cannot be invisable?

Surely Snape can make himself invisable with a potion or somthing?

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:13

i agree dumbledoresgirl but thought the brave thing was killing dumbledore under his orders when he knows that dumbledore is the only wizard who is a match for voldermort. who is now capable of fighting voldermort?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:15

Well, you are supposed to believe Harry will find the power, but it doesn't seem very realistic to me right now. When Harry and Dumbledore went looking for the horcrux, Harry was little more than a hanger on. (I love that scene, and the whole of the Harry/Dumbledore relationship in Book 6)

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:18

i know! just can't wait for book 7 really can't wait.sad i know but hey ho.

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:24

Me neither. I have never been in this position before - waiting for a book to be published. It is frustrating not to be able to just go out and buy it! I think I will be one of those saddos buying the book at midnight on the day of its release.

CheesyFeet · 28/09/2006 13:24

I'm just as bad alexsmum. I have already said that I am going to take a couple of days off work to read it when it comes out, but I am now seriously considering booking myself into a hotel so I can read it in peace

(And I shall be right about human horcruxes, just you wait and see )

fridascruffs · 28/09/2006 13:25

dumbledoresgirl- sare you really jkrowling?

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:25

fridascruffs · 28/09/2006 13:26

CheesyFeet · 28/09/2006 13:26
DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:26

Frida - I wish!

No, I would never have killed Dumbledore off! (Or I would have written a series of books about him instead of Harry!)

compo · 28/09/2006 13:27

dh says that when the last book comes out he's going to drive me and the kids to my mum's house and then book himself into a hotel for a few days and read it He's ultra paranoid about someone spoiling the ending before he's read it!!

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2006 13:28

I have huge difficulty reading books and not glimpsing the end before I have got there. I want to buy a special magic version of the last book which only allows the reader to turn a page when every word of the current page has been read. Can anyone recommend where I can get such a book?

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:29

dh and i may end up buying a copy each-both mad abou it!!!

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 13:30

now if you really were dumbledores girl -you would be able to do a tricky little charm......

my dh couldn't care less... good thing really as he will be solely responsible for dd for the length of time it takes me to read it.

fridascruffs · 28/09/2006 13:32

don't read any newspapers or watch TV or anything till you've read it cos they always give away the big denouement. I'm bloody well not reading the last one iin french.

tortoiseshell · 28/09/2006 13:33

Lilly Potter plays a significant role in the last book - I suspect the 'good at charms' quote will be important.

I DON'T BELIEVE SNAPE IS THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. Because when Harry was trying to work it out, Lupin looked at the date in the book and said it was obviously someone who was older than H's dad - Snape and James were contemporaries.

Snape is a goody I think - I wonder if he had to kill Dumbledore in order to remain in Voldemort's confidence.

It wouldn't surprise me if Harry did die - he's lost everyone close to him so far....
