I like that 10 years ago thread .... so here's another one ....

20 years ago I was 16, just started Lower 6th at school .... having somehow got myself 7 O Levels (failed Biology and English Lit - lol. Biology because I am not a scientist and English Lit because I had the most boring teacher alive and I think I slept through all his lessons)
Was going out with my first proper boyfriend (like proper long term relationship - ahem, 6 months ... sex and everything ). He wasn't good looking but he was hilarious and had a motorbike )
Was massively into Hockey - played 4 times a week and really into Drama ... was in all school musicals.
It was a good time in my life - although I was grounded for most of it, something to do with boyfriends with motorbikes

I had just turned 18 - had been living away from home since the Jan at university. Had gone home for spring break and had a great 18th birthday party. Had a lovely boyfriend and enjoying life as a uni student.

eidsvold · 25/09/2006 03:41

ohhh had a part time job in order to afford to go to uni and buy books. Was studying for a BA in English and Modern History with a bit of other subjects thrown in . Working towards becoming a High school history and english teacher.

Expo 88 in Brisbane - so had gone to that - enjoying bicentennial celebrations for us in Aus.

Yes Trefusis ... my one true love when I was 16 was nicked by my girlfriend ....

Good job too, because I met him 5 years ago and he was really fat and flabby and pale and pasty, no longer had a motorbike and wasn't nearly as funny as I remember

had just bought a house & got married to ex DH (at 19 - would be so sad if DD decided to marry so young) DD arrived 2 years later & marriage ended a year after that. Doesn't seem like 20 years ago though!!

Earlybird · 25/09/2006 06:53

Had just moved to New York City from London to start a new job, and to be reunited with my long term love. Was temporarily living in the city's most famous literary hotel (The Algonquin), and ordering room service every night!

Spagblog · 25/09/2006 06:53

Was 10!
In Lower III whatever that is in modern school years, and had just started competitive swimming.
Naive, energetic and enthusiastic (as opposed to cynical, worn out and weary)

mummydear · 25/09/2006 07:17

Had just turned 20 , was at Police Training school about to embark on a career and about to let loose on the public and have my eyes well and true;y opened !

YellowFeathers · 25/09/2006 07:20

Blandmum · 25/09/2006 07:26

Living in a flat in oxford. Doing my Phd, loving it even though I was working 70 hours a week for peanuts! the effect of anticonvulsant drugs on learning and memory.....some of the work I did helped to get a novel drug on the market which was nice.

Engagued to my now dh and planning the wedding

Pinkchampagne · 25/09/2006 07:27

20 years ago I was approaching my 14th birthday & in my 3rd year of secondary school.
I wore big red Timmy Mallet style glasses & thought I looked really cool in them!
I hadn't started dating boys at this age, which was hardly suprising given the glasses!!!

KTeepee · 25/09/2006 07:36

I was in the US, just finishing up a 4 month working holiday and getting ready to pack up and come back for my last year at Uni. I had been quite anti-American before I went but really fell in love with the country and people when I got there - made me realise you have to look beyond national stereotypes!

foundintranslation · 25/09/2006 07:38

9 years old, in the juniors and being bullied.

biglips · 25/09/2006 07:58

1986 - i was 11 and started high school......i didnt know ANYONE at all cos i had to go to a different school with a hearing impairment unit.. It was the last time i seen all my juniors friends . I was getting picked on abit by the 2nd years girls cos i was taller than them so i hated being in the first year...once i got in the 2nd year they all backed off.

And in dec 1986 - i started my first period - BLIMEY 20 YEARS AGO!!!!!!

oh i had my first homework as never had homework before!!

lexiemum · 25/09/2006 08:03

11 here too, starting secondary school and moaning that I had to walk the 2miles to school. Spent alot of time arguing with my mother because all my friends were allowed to do more than I was i.e. going on bus alone, cinema etc. Also discovered Top of the Pops for the first time and bought my first single.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 25/09/2006 08:04

i was 9

i can't remember really.

i had some poetry published in a book for Prccocious Brats. that was about it, i think.

Tutter · 25/09/2006 08:08

i was 15. happy at school, in 4th year - a year to go before o levels. first boyfriend that year i think. getting into music properly for the first time (new order and depeche mode). bad perm.

Tickle · 25/09/2006 08:21

I was 15 and in my first year of A levels, with my sister who was 16. We had been to a convent, and chose the local sixth form college for A levels, so we were let loose on boys n everything

Good times

Good thread!

Tutter · 25/09/2006 08:23

are you sure tickle? i was 15 and hadn't done my o levels by then, so how come you were already doing a levels? either you were a child prodigy, or you've got your years mixed up .

throckenholt · 25/09/2006 08:55

I would have been 19 - nearly 20 - just starting 2nd year at university - living with friends in a shared house - and generally having a good time.

nutcracker · 25/09/2006 09:00

Well I was 8 so probably jusy playing with friends most of the time.

hunkermunker · 25/09/2006 09:01

hitchcock · 25/09/2006 09:01
