I like that 10 years ago thread .... so here's another one ....

20 years ago I was 16, just started Lower 6th at school .... having somehow got myself 7 O Levels (failed Biology and English Lit - lol. Biology because I am not a scientist and English Lit because I had the most boring teacher alive and I think I slept through all his lessons)
Was going out with my first proper boyfriend (like proper long term relationship - ahem, 6 months ... sex and everything ). He wasn't good looking but he was hilarious and had a motorbike )
Was massively into Hockey - played 4 times a week and really into Drama ... was in all school musicals.
It was a good time in my life - although I was grounded for most of it, something to do with boyfriends with motorbikes

I was 22, in my 3rd year of a drama course, living in London and being a barmaid at the world's most hideously Sloaney pub - The Ship under Wandsworth Bridge. Being faithful to xp not knowing what a slapper he was, and turning down loads of opportunities because of him dammit.

ledodgyrobespierre · 25/09/2006 09:04

I was 10 still in Liverpool and had just gone into my fourth year at Junior school.

loujay · 25/09/2006 09:05

I was 16 and had failed all but one of my o levels, decided to go to Catering college, got contact lenses and reinvented myself from the quiet nerd at school to a slightly noisier cooler version of me at college.
Moved house with my mum and sister after parents divorce.
Had no boyfriend but a year later met my first love whilst on work placement in a london hotel!!
Wouldnt go back 20 years for all the money in the world.!!

mazzystar · 25/09/2006 09:06

I was 16 and had just started VI form to do A levels after fannying about all summer trying to decide whether to do a fashion course instead. It was a very mixed up time really as my Dad had just been diagnosed with cancer, he died the following summer.

Dottydot · 25/09/2006 09:07

I was 17, at sixth form college and just about to discover that you didn't really need A levels to go to music college, you just had to do a good audition. So followed 2 years of missing lessons, playing the piano for about 6 hours a day and going to many many clubs getting very drunk on K cider!!

Had my first boyfriend at 17 as well - he was very sweet and we're still friends. We used to spend hours looking through the Argos catalogue picking out things we'd buy when we lived together! And thought that making Pot Noodles was the height of grown up-ness!!!

hitchcock · 25/09/2006 09:08

sorry mazzastar about your dad!hug

throckenholt · 25/09/2006 09:15

southeastastra · 25/09/2006 09:21

i was 17 and mad as a loon

Mercy · 25/09/2006 09:26

I was 23. My father had just died so I moved back in with my mum. Not the best of times really.

However I had also started a new job which I loved.

alexsmum · 25/09/2006 09:30

i was 14, massively hormonally charged and snogging everything in sight. messing around a lot at school while still harbouring dreams of going to university and ending up living in london and driving round in a bmw.
i had very very short hair which i used to wear spiky on top and i used to wear suede doc martens a lot!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 25/09/2006 09:32

i was 4.2 and probably just started nursery!!

Gingerbear · 25/09/2006 09:33

I had just finished my Chemical Engineering degree and was about to start my Masters in Manchester. Was living in a decidedly dodgy terrace in Moss Side. Rentokil used to visit every month to keep down the cockroach population, the neighbours - one house was derelict and always had midnight visitors, the other neighbour was a sweetheart. She looked like a cross between Lily Savage and Hilda Ogden, kept 6 pekingese dogs, wore pink fluffy slippers, orange lippy. turquoise eyeshadow and a headscarf.
Oh, and I had short cropped hair and wore DMs.

I was just starting school

CheesyFeet · 25/09/2006 09:33

I was 12 and at boarding school in Derbyshire. My family were in Hong Kong and I flew out for the three big holidays every year. I spent half terms with my aunt and nan in Liverpool. I had greasy hair all the time as we were only allowed to wash it twice a week. I was geeky and spotty (this has not changed ).

alexsmum · 25/09/2006 09:34

gingerbear- i probably wanted to be you!
jessicandrebbeccasmummy-Now that makes me feel old!!!!!lol!

iota · 25/09/2006 09:37

I had recently started a new job and was buying my first house

Gingerbear · 25/09/2006 09:40

lol, alexmum - I think DMs and cropped hair were very trendy in 1986.
(Come out come out other DM-ers)

aDAdOnMumsnet · 25/09/2006 09:41
  1. Wearing scruffy clothes, drinking endless coffees in local coffeeshops and smoking as much as possible to look more mature.
cupcakes · 25/09/2006 09:41

I was 12. Had just moved into my own room (had always shared with sister and brother). It was painted blue with pink glosswork and had Marilyn Monroe posters on the walls.

IvortheEngine · 25/09/2006 09:42

Either about to start or else had just started college.

moondog · 25/09/2006 09:43

Just starting my second year in Edinburgh uni (French/History) and bloody hating it.
Drunken Irish boyfriend who force fed me drugs and folk.
It was sooooooooooooooooooo bloody cold.

alexsmum · 25/09/2006 09:44
