ive spoken to the director of the company and its going to be one of the crew that are going to pick me up, my sis is going to be with me aswell so should be fine.

mimi1uk · 27/09/2006 18:09

thats cool then x well done

dylansluckymum · 27/09/2006 18:23

ellesmum sounds like fun shame most of us won't get to see it on tv, you'll have to share around the copy they give you! congrats!!

mimi1uk · 27/09/2006 18:25

yackerty thank u so much just got the booklet, its so much better than i thought its lovely thanks again really really pleased

3lambs · 27/09/2006 19:13

we also had call for house of fraser shoot on friday but had to say ds could only make the morning as its his birthday party in the afternoon!!! totally new to all this but presume you can't really stipulate how long you can stay , they just need you when they do!!
Been told its for HofF catalogue.

princessmel · 27/09/2006 19:36

I sent off ds's pic for that advert too ellesmum. It was on napm. Well done!!

julie4travel · 27/09/2006 19:37

ellesmum- congrats. if its like the star now one that my ds done i had no regrets for him doing an unpaid job. it was great expereince. he will only be in the film for 10 seconds or so too yet he loved it. what i done was rang the director from the train station about the lift and was going to ask the description of car clothing etc of the person he was sending, yet they were busy filming so i got a taxi instead which they paid.

from when i first read about pageant on here it just seemed dodgy - now ive found out you have to pay out £150 and im sure its dodgy - real money earner. mimi - i will apply now and see what they say. has anyone paid to go yet?

julie4travel · 27/09/2006 19:39

ellesmum - i sent through my ds details through on that one too even though he was too old (yet he is small for his age) forgot to say i will probably have the commerical on my tv so let me know when it will start being screened

OP posts:
mysonsmummy · 27/09/2006 19:42

i just applied but could not see where i had to attach the photo - was i in the wrong place?

julie4travel · 27/09/2006 19:51

ellesmum- just read its essex only that it will be aired is it not the whole of east anglia?

i haven't sent the sponsorship money in yet for the British Isles thing yet will do.

educatingrita · 27/09/2006 19:54

The 2 things that stand out ot me as being wrong about the pageant are
1/ why didnt they say on the websit when you apply that there will be a £150.00 fee? this is not mentioned ANYWHERE until you get offered a place
2/ why dont you get told more details - crucially what they will be expected to do, until AFTER youve coughed up the cash??

ellesmum · 27/09/2006 19:58

julie the director said its going to be aired in the whole of east anglia and its going to have alot of coverage. bit worried about travelling so far with dd but sure it will be fine and she loves the train so she should have fun!

they are also going to give me the date and time its going to be aired. most of my family live in east anglia so they are all really excited about seeing it!

Quadrophenia · 27/09/2006 20:00

its all just wrong, wrong, wrong, pageants are exploitive, competitive and far to a pressurised environment for children. I don't get why anybody would want their child to do it?

julie4travel · 27/09/2006 20:10

re miss british isles - i think it will be a totally different experience and feel if i dont take him i will always be wondering what it was like. he is already excited that we are staying in a hotel. the sponsorship side of things I think its a reasonable cost for advertising and the photos and extras are just a bonus. i know i pay quite a bit of money for links on websites and to display promotional material at fairs. at the end of the day i dont think he will win yet i think he will enjoy the experience? who knows?

OP posts:
julie4travel · 27/09/2006 20:12

ellesmum - great i will be able to watch it then! email me if you get given a date of the first one

OP posts:
Quadrophenia · 27/09/2006 20:20

enjoy what exactly?? you don't even know what it involves? surely the £150 could be better spent on a weekend away in ahotel without the palava. I really don't get why you would want to put him through this.

Quadrophenia · 27/09/2006 20:22

btw i really don't want to have a go, but i just don't 'get it' and i'm really curious as to why it would be a good experience when you don't even know what the experience will be

lanismum · 27/09/2006 20:26

i think just the word pageant brings up images of the hideous american things with little girls in full make up ect, i hope its not like that, but its still not something id ever put my dd in for, i wouldnt feel comfortable with it, plus im pretty sure she would be scared.

Quadrophenia · 27/09/2006 20:28

I think you are right lanismum, the word pageant makes me go funny! I really would hate to see similar events set up over here

julie4travel · 27/09/2006 20:30

quad - i will chat to my dh and see what he thinks. obviously i know the kids talk to the judges and talk about themselves, maybe i need to read up more on the pageants. my work will be paying the fees, yet i understand what you say about the hotel etc. will post tommorow after i have chatted it over!

OP posts:
lanismum · 27/09/2006 20:30

im sure it wont be as full on as the american ones, well id like to hope anyway, id like to see someone get lani to sit still long enough to get a face full of make up on her, i can barely brush her hair

Quadrophenia · 27/09/2006 20:32

Also (cor can't you tell I've had wine tonight), I wonder why something like this isn't done through the agencies, maybe because no agent in their right mind would endorse this kind of thing maybe? Although the implication is that kids who 'aren't models' can be included how many, seriously would know about it if they weren't already involved in modelling. It smells of fish i tell you

ellesmum · 27/09/2006 20:32

thats exactly where its come from though (america)suppose they are trying to create the same thing over here in england. it does all sound a bit wrong but its up to the individual person, i wont go any further with it if dd gets in its too much money 4 me!

Quadrophenia · 27/09/2006 20:36

julie whatever desicion you have to make then cool, hope you are not offended but sometimes you make better decsions if an interfering witch like me throws their two pence in, if you still go ahead with it then you are doing so taking other factors into consideration whihc is better than not thinking about them at all
