Hi zombie. Hope the oncologist went well.
I have just come back from having my second docetaxol. Playing the waiting game now. They reduced my dose so hopefully not as bad. Am sure plenty of sleep will be had!
Glad you are out and about.

Wolfiefan · 24/07/2014 16:47

Thinking of you today Zombie. x

IamtheZombie · 24/07/2014 17:45

Good afternoon.

Most of this morning went to plan. The bit that didn't was when a coach came flying around a corner in the country lanes mostly on the wrong side of the road. I did a not very pretty emergency stop that included sideswiping the hedge and stalling the car. The coach missed by a couple of inches and carried on. When I turned the car back on the dashboard lit up and said ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP. I drove to the nearest garage and thankfully they were able to check it out and re-set the EMS.

I had just enough time to grab my MaccyD breakfast and get to the hospital. The oncology appointment went as anticipated. My dosage is being increased to 60mg/m². I will have an echocardiogram after cycle 3 and see the oncologist again after cycle 4.

The cats now have 12 boxes of pouches in store and are very happy.

I've had a nice nap and now feel ready to face the evening. Grin Grin Grin

Oh my gosh! I can't believe the coach driver! Shock
Pretty scary stuff, glad you found time for your maccy d's.

I'm always surprised how busy oncology is! I hope your until had Ac, mum and I melted while waiting our turn in the waiting room, it was pretty dark too as they turned off the lights because they were making it even hotter Shock

magimedi · 25/07/2014 20:39

So pleased to hear you are OK after that scare.

And to hear that the Zombie Cats won't starve!!

Huge hugs - XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

IamtheZombie · 25/07/2014 21:24

Evening!

I was actually in and out in about 20 minutes, Barbie. Oncology generally runs to time. It's the Breast Clinic that can be unpredictable.

I doubt the ZombieCatsâ„¢ would ever starve, magi. It's more that I don't fancy becoming their banquet.

I had a lovely day today. Met a friend for brunch and had fabulous baby cuddles. Have I mentioned how much I love baby cuddles?

I then did a slow shuffle around Sainsbury and got a few essentials. Then it was home and nap time.

I've had my dinner and looking forward to relaxing for the rest of the evening. Grin

Good evening zombie

Yes, we were seen on time too...however the sheer number of people in the waiting room made my jaw drop! It's funny how you tend to think you are the only ones having a trying time, when in reality it's so much different.

Can I please pick your brain? Feel free to ignore me if you want Grin

The children and I are making my mum a '12 weeks of chemo' box.

Basically a little treat for her each Tuesday of the 12 weeks before she goes for her session.

We have about 7 little treats and now I'm stuck for ideas.

We have cards and drawing from the kids.

Her fav lipstick.

Loads of miniture skin care samples

Hand cream

A bag of sweets which she loves....

Now we are stuck.

Is there anything you would of liked someone to think of, a small treat that would make you smile?

I'm only going to be here for the first three sessions so I thought this would be a nice little surprise.

Enjoy your evening and sorry for derailing your thread again Blush

IamtheZombie · 25/07/2014 22:07

Good question, Barbie. Can I think about it and let you know tomorrow?

There is no derailing of a Zombie thread. Ever. Zombie threads just wander where they will.

OP posts:
Barbie1 · 25/07/2014 22:15

No rush at all...

I have two weeks to finish it and even then I can add to it Smile

There was a pair of Chanel sunglasses (my old ones which she loved) but I crumbled and gave them to her along with a selection of bracelets as the weather has been so lovely.

It really doesn't need to be expensive, just thought, useful things.

Good night, sleep tight xx

mummylin2495 · 25/07/2014 22:20

Gosh Zombie, that was shock with the coach. Your life certainly is eventful. Glad you had some cuddling with a lovely little baby, there is nothing to compare is there !
Hope you have managed some rest this evening. Did you have rain and thunder earlier ?
Hopefully it will be warm and sunny again tomorrow so you can enjoy being out in the sun again

IamtheZombie · 27/07/2014 00:17

I just want to tell you that I love you all.

Thank you for helping me to keep going on.

Hope you are having a good weekend? Does it include champagne?

I've dissolved into a puddle of butter today, but cheering myself up with the phrase "Winter is Coming". Grin

Barbie1 · 27/07/2014 08:12

Good morning Zombie.

Are you ok?

Hope you have a relaxing Sunday. Flowers

magimedi · 27/07/2014 10:10

Zombie We luffs you too!

GalaxyInMyPants · 27/07/2014 10:13

Hi Zombie. Was wondering how you were doing.

Hope you're enjoying the sunshine this weekend.

Thisvehicleisreversing · 27/07/2014 10:25

Hi zombie, hope you are feeling good in this beautiful Shopshire weekend.

Can I ask you about the side effects you've experienced with Docetaxal? My mum has started a once every 3 week course for lung cancer.
She's only had 1 so far and it put her in hospital because it lowered her potassium and magnesium levels. She's having her 2nd next week and to be honest she doesn't like to ask many questions so I'm in the dark about any side effects she expect to have.

Will the amounts she have build up so that she gets worse as the treatment goes on? She's losing a bit of her hair at the moment, will this get progressively worse?

I tried to ask my mum's oncologist but she snapped at me because she doesn't want to know the gory details and forbid me from asking when she wasn't there.

Sorry to peck your head Grin

iklboo · 27/07/2014 11:55

Love you too Zombie. Hope you are feeling ok & enjoying the weather.

mummylin2495 · 27/07/2014 12:43

Hi Zombie, we all care about you too ! You are a very special person and so stoic. We are all hoping for the best for you and will stay by your side as long as you need.
Hope you will have a great weekend. Thanks

Barbie1 · 27/07/2014 17:09

thisvehicle sorry you are going through this too.

I'm pretty sure my mum had that drug last time...the tiredness got progressively worse and she seemed to be weaker come the end of all the courses but the sickness remained constant and never reached a 'peak' if that makes sense.

With three weeks between treatments a regular pattern soon emerged. Mum was fine for the first few days, got worse over the next week and then started to pick up just in time to begin again.

As for the hair, I won't lie it got worse with each treatment. In the end mum was so paranoid that she threw a BBQ and nearly all the guest ended up drunk shaved their heads along side my mum Grin

This said, I could have the drugs mixed up and I could be talking absolute rubbish!

IamtheZombie · 27/07/2014 23:14

Evening!

I've had a wonderful day. An old friend called by for a few hours. She was a little girl when my late DH and I moved into the village. Her family moved away about 20 years ago and today was the first time she'd been back to the village. We had a fabulous time catching up.

All, no champagne, alas. Some very nice tea though.

Barbie, I'm still shuffling along. From what you've said, your mum may well have had Docetaxel.

magi xxxx

Thanks, Galaxy, iklboo and mummy!

Thisvehicle, I'm going to answer you in a new post.

IamtheZombie · 27/07/2014 23:51

Thisvehicle, first, if you haven't already looked at the Macmillan website, please do so. Here's a LINK to their information leaflet on Docetaxel.

My personal experience has been:

Hair loss started becoming apparent on day 14 or 15 of cycle 1. The greatest loss was over the next week or so. Then it settled until day 14 or 15 of this cycle. It picked up again then but I'm not sure I'll lose it all. I didn't last time when I was on FEC. NB It's not just head hair that you lose. Most body hair can go. This includes nasal hair and eyelashes. No nasal hair = drippy nose. No eyelashes = dry gritty eyes.

Sickness is actually fairly rare with Tax. When it does occur it's usually very mild. I've not had any.

Ususally on day 4 or 5 of a cycle I start having very nasty flu-like aches that last for 2 - 3 days. I take ibuprofen or paracetamol during the day and a couple of co-codamol before bed.

Some people get a nasty taste in their mouth. Others just find that food doesn't taste right. I fall into the latter group. One tip I was given by a friend was to take ice water to sip on during the infusion. I've been doing that and at the very least it's very refreshing.

I'm afraid the fatigue just gets worse. Tax is hitting me much harder that FEC did. I really do need to nap at least once a day and often twice. I've become the doddery old lady slowly pushing her trolley around the supermarket. This does concern me as I'm only 1/3rd of the way through my treatment.

There's more but I going to plead Chemo Brain to stop here.

Oh, yes, Chemo Brain. It's real and it's not fun. You lose the ability to concentrate. You forget what you're trying to say half way through a sentence. You struggle to find a familiar word. I hate it.

Zombie thanks so much for the information and the pm.

I'm going to have to get my mum on MN Grin there's so much help and advice on here for her.

mummylin2495 · 29/07/2014 00:23

Hello Zombie, hope you have had another good day today ( mon ) . I'm afraid the weather has changed here so wasnt much like summer. Hopefully you had a better day weather wise. It sounds lovely meeting up with an old friend, had she changed much apart from being older ?
Hope you are now feeling more like yourself now. I am off to a show tomorrow with my brother and dh , sixties music , which I love.
Enjoy tomorrow, shame about having no champagne but maybe have some wine instead !

Allalonenow · 29/07/2014 00:40

Hope all is well today, and that you are remembering to get some rest.

Even Champagne Queens like you need a cup of tea now and again in order to reset their bubble level Grin

I noticed that the Red Arrows were performing at the opening of the Commonwealth Games, and thought to myself....
"Well, Zombie must have given them permission because none of her Aunts have a birthday today so she doesn't need them" Smile

((((hugs))))

Hi Zombie, back now from thundery France.

Your contretemps with the coach sounded very scary and unnerving. It sounds like your superlative driving skills saved everyone's bacon and they were all obliviousFlowers

Lovely that you're catching up with old friends.

Yes, as the others said, we all love you and you're stuck with us Grin

Barbie your mum sounds like a gas! That dates me but Z will know what I mean!
