Had a HUGE Row over P & T Parking Space!

I was in Asda car park in Rotherham yesterday and it was packed. We were patiently waiting for a P & T space when a middle aged woman in a suit came out and started loading her car without a child in sight.

Normally I avoid confrontation like the plague but this time I wound the windown down and asked where her chid was. Her response was "shut it Gb shte". I saw red and called her selfish and lazy at which point another lady joined in with me (another Mumsnetter?!) and told her there is a reason for these spaces. Probably not my finest moment but when she started loading tins of slim fast into her car I said she probably wouldn't need those if she could be bothered to walk across the car park once in a while. Cue lots of evil looks and a very fast exit on her part.

Grrrr! If she had apologised then fine but her response was shocking bearing in mind she was dressed in a business suit and looked the image of respectability.

I know these threads are on here all the time but had to let off steam. Normally I would have kept my opinions to myself but it actually felt good to stand up for myself.

Well done! Love the SlimFast comment, really made me laugh!

CountessDracula · 24/03/2004 09:43

Hee Hee good on you!!

WideWebWitch · 24/03/2004 09:46

Our Asda car park is operated by NCP and has a sign up saying people will be ticketed for using disabled spaces, staying longer than 2 hours etc but it doesn't say anything about P&T. Also, they always leave the baby trolleys out in the rain and the normal ones under cover. Oooh, I feel an email to Asda coming on. Pennypocket, sorry the old bag was so horrible to you.

WideWebWitch · 24/03/2004 09:47

But I bet the Slimfast comment REALLY stung, if it's any consolation!

Angeliz · 24/03/2004 09:47

well done+

dottee · 24/03/2004 09:48

Give me a shout if you're coming to Morrissons at Brampton Bierlow if you want moral support - I'm on the new estate at Cortonwood. (I've been meaning to come down to Asda but it's a trek from up here - pity I didn't yesterday).

Whereabouts in Rotherham are you Pennypocket?

fio2 · 24/03/2004 09:50

LOL well done PP

jampot · 24/03/2004 09:53

Good for you - I hate to see this also. I have witnessed something similar in our local Tesco and when I approached the car park "man" he said there's nothing the store can do.

Pennypocket · 24/03/2004 09:53

Greasbrough but am moving in the next few weeks to Wath-Upon-Dearne. Thats not too far from you Dottee is it?

twiglett, there's quite a lot sainsbury's do better, it's a completely different shopping experience

Freckle · 24/03/2004 09:57

Well done. More people should stand up for this. I don't feel that I can use these spaces now, even though I have booster seats in my car (which would make it look as though my use was legitimate) as my children are old enough to get in and out of cars quite easily. However, it stills annoys me when I see perfectly able people misuse them. I did collar one chap once who had parked an enormous commercial van in a P&T space. His excuse was that he'd only parked to use Sainsburys loo! So, not only did he park where he shouldn't have, but he didn't even buy anything in the shop. Unbelievable.

Marina · 24/03/2004 10:18

Well done Pennypocket, especially the Slimfast riposte! Nice to hear of someone else joining in to support you as well.

aloha · 24/03/2004 10:39

Tee hee, I bet she's at home still gutted about the Slimfast comment.

ghengis · 24/03/2004 10:45

I must hold ny hand up and admit that I parked in a P&T space in Sainsburys the other day. I forgot DD wasn't with me and did it out of habit! It was only when I got back in the car that I remembered - boy, was I worried there night be another Mumsnetter around to tell me off

katierocket · 24/03/2004 10:49
