Had a HUGE Row over P & T Parking Space!

I was in Asda car park in Rotherham yesterday and it was packed. We were patiently waiting for a P & T space when a middle aged woman in a suit came out and started loading her car without a child in sight.

Normally I avoid confrontation like the plague but this time I wound the windown down and asked where her chid was. Her response was "shut it Gb shte". I saw red and called her selfish and lazy at which point another lady joined in with me (another Mumsnetter?!) and told her there is a reason for these spaces. Probably not my finest moment but when she started loading tins of slim fast into her car I said she probably wouldn't need those if she could be bothered to walk across the car park once in a while. Cue lots of evil looks and a very fast exit on her part.

Grrrr! If she had apologised then fine but her response was shocking bearing in mind she was dressed in a business suit and looked the image of respectability.

I know these threads are on here all the time but had to let off steam. Normally I would have kept my opinions to myself but it actually felt good to stand up for myself.

Back on Pennypocket - have been to Aquafit at Wath baths this morning. Small world eh? Stay in touch! We'll attack the over 60 blokes at Morries - you know the ones that start pushing their trolleys through at check-out behind you when you haven't even got your purse out to pay for your stuff! I haven't had a problem with the new Wath tesco yet but Netto's a free for all.

dottee · 24/03/2004 13:18

Sorry - over 60 year old blokes I meant!

Pennypocket · 24/03/2004 13:30

Isn't it just Dottee! How old are your kids? I have one DS who is 2 1/2 Have u lived in the area for long (am originally from Sussex so am still trying to get info)
That is another pet hate of mine but I have found its single youngish blokes who are the main culprits - god don't get me started lol!

Pennypocket · 24/03/2004 13:50

Well PennyPocket if only you could look at it from her angle, she is obviously a busy about town preofessional type who only has 3/4 hr at lunch to do her very important shopping. You however are merely a mother with nothing better to do but loaf around thesupermarket carpark searching for a carpark AND your kids need the sunshine and fresh air more than the busy lady does.
Learn your place
PS this is a joke!

Spod · 24/03/2004 16:06

just been shopping at a supermarket.... all the parent toddler parking full.... loads of cars with no car seat... and a few i saw getting back into their cars with no kids.... all old people or thse with disabled badges.... shouldnt they be on our side, especially where there are miles more disabled spaces than parent/toddler ones. I complained to the customer services

Tinker · 24/03/2004 18:42

But Gbshte is such a great word though....

Bozza · 25/03/2004 11:35

I regularly use Asda in Rotherham but never the Parent and Child spaces because I work just down the road and so have never have DS with me. But I have noticed they are fairly regularly abused. so good on you pennypocket.

I've never been so brave. The nearest I've got is muttering to DS about a middle-aged woman coming out of our local swimming baths to a car parked in the 1 parent and child space while i (heavily pregnant) struggled to get DS and his gear out in an ordinary space. Although 1 space does not go that far at an under-5s swimming session....

kst101 · 25/03/2004 11:47

I keep seeing people with no children calmly getting into their car in the P&T spaces. I think I might start saying something to people although I am generally a quiet unassuming sort! When I was pg, I never used them because I felt I didn't have a child with me (daft person that I am) and was worried someone would tell me off! When you're trying to get the car seat and pushchair in and our of the car, you really need the extra space a P&T space gives.

Tommy · 25/03/2004 21:57

I find that I don't necessarily want the desginated parking space nearer to the store - just wider and within easy access of trolleys. If they were a bit further away then people wouldn't want to abuse them.

Paula71 · 25/03/2004 22:26

Cracking good riposte on the SlimFast pennypocket! God, I wish I could think up witty retorts like that

I usually say "you forgot your child" or stare pointedly. Neither work as these people don't have shame!

JanHR · 25/03/2004 22:45

When I was a mum and Dad's earlier this month we went to HOmebase. Mum parked in P&T space but I stayined in the car with DD as she was asleep.
The number of people I saw using those spaces who were not entiltled was astonishing.
One was a member of staff just starting her shift.
If the staff don't respect these spaces how can they expect the customers to.
