Best curry house in Peterborough?

fisil · 20/03/2004 17:41

My parents are babysitting tonight so that we can go out and talk everything over after our shitty three weeks.

So anyone know a good curry house that will be quiet on a Saturday night? I'm still on the antibiotics, so we can drive anywhere in the P'boro area.

Mirpur Balti House on Lincoln Road is supposed to be good. Or India Gate Tandoori in Fitzwilliam Street?

I've not tried them personally but they were recommended by a friend who has an Indian dw.

kiwisbird · 20/03/2004 17:56

if you prefer Thai the North A1 in town centre is absolutely fabulous

fisil · 20/03/2004 17:58

I knew you ladies would come up with the goods!

Thank you

I like Bombay Brasserie (Broadway) and also Jennas (sp?)behind the market best though they might be quite busy. Mirpur Balti's good too and usually quite quiet, my dp's mum lives right next door but don't let that put you off

coppertop · 20/03/2004 18:20

Oooh! Lots of locals on Mumsnet!

fisil · 20/03/2004 18:22

Thanks again. We'll have to have a meet up some time. We're here all the predictable grandparenty times of year (Xmas, mothers day, summer and various b'days).

Are any of you the lovely lady who let me have a nappy in the changing rooms today?

OP posts:
coppertop · 20/03/2004 18:24

Not me, I'm afraid. I sent dh out to do the shopping while I stayed at home out of the wind!

(Sorry, dh!)

kiwisbird · 20/03/2004 18:24

I'm an ex Peterborian now located in Hants!
Miss that bloody restaurant though!

coppertop · 20/03/2004 18:26

Oh, must preview. I mean I wasn't the person who gave you a nappy. That sounded like I meant I wasn't interested in meeting up in the future.

Must preview first.....

helenmc · 20/03/2004 18:42

BOMBAY BRASSERIE - everytime!

coppertop · 20/03/2004 18:45

Is that the one near the library? I haven't been there for years!

Croak · 20/03/2004 23:03

Thats the one Coppertop. I haven't been since just before ds was born when I was attempting an unsuccessful bit of diy induction - curry was lovely though.

I'm not in Peterborough either any more (not sure that I should say where we live now for fear of being ostracised by you fellow Peterborians when I've only just met you and you all sound so nice, needless to say it begins with C )but both mine and dp's parents are there so we visit a lot. Would be fab to meet up sometime especially as babysitting shouldn't be a problem

coppertop · 20/03/2004 23:06

Oooooh! Traitor!

helenmc · 21/03/2004 11:17

fisil - where did you go in the end?
shall we have a Peterborian meet-up at the Bombay ???

fisil · 21/03/2004 13:57

P'boro meet up sounds cool - but we're not around all that often. There is so much baby stuff to do round here (or is it that because I'm staying at someone elses house there is a lot more time to do things?) We've fed the lambs at Sacrewell Farm and the ducks at Ferry Meadows. We've had a fab time.

We went to the India Gate in Fitzwilliam Street in the end. The food was OK and a bit pricey (by our London standards!) but the atmosphere was perfect and we had an excellent evening.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Glad that you had a good evening fsil.
I'd forgotton all about Sacrewell farm but have good memories of it (that somehow doesn't make sense but hopefully ykwim)- should take ds there sometime.
Would certainly be up for any meet up when we're all about.

Jaybee · 05/04/2004 11:01

Another ex Peterboroian here - moved away about 9 years ago - now living near Milton Keynes. Parents and sister still in Peterborough though so I am often there.

coppertop · 05/04/2004 11:04

I escaped too for a few years - but ended up coming back here anyway.

fisil · 05/04/2004 11:15

Well, we should meet up sometime soon. We have no visits planned, so maybe half term?

What if we turn out to have all been at school together?

OP posts:
coppertop · 05/04/2004 11:16

OMG! Does anyone want to be brave and say which school they went to?

fisil · 05/04/2004 11:17

I went to the one that will make you all say I am posh.

OP posts:
coppertop · 05/04/2004 11:21

Not the one that begins with a K? Or do you mean the one with the blazers that looked like stripey deckchairs? (Apologies to anyone who went there!).

I went to the 'wonderful' Catholic school in the very dodgy area.

fisil · 05/04/2004 11:24

The K one. If I'd been to the stripey one, then you might have a right to call me posh (again, apologies to anyone who went there). So you were at SJF?

OP posts:
Jaybee · 05/04/2004 11:24

fisil - was it the girl's school? Westwood House wasn't it?
Comprehensive school girl me - Orton Longueville.

fisil · 05/04/2004 11:26

Hey Jaybee, I'm a comprehensive school girl too! (well, it was officially comprehensive, ha ha ha). But I survived!
