Best curry house in Peterborough?

fisil · 20/03/2004 17:41

My parents are babysitting tonight so that we can go out and talk everything over after our shitty three weeks.

So anyone know a good curry house that will be quiet on a Saturday night? I'm still on the antibiotics, so we can drive anywhere in the P'boro area.

Yes, I went to good old SJF.

Croak · 05/04/2004 12:31

lol fsil I went to the samr school as you. It certainly did stretch the definition of comprehensive a bit didn't it? I'm not that posh honest. Now I want to start doing the oooh do you remember so and so thing but think that I'd better resist

Croak · 05/04/2004 12:36

Oh and am definitely up for a meet up at half term, or any time really (am clearly desparate ) if thats alright with you lot. It will obviously be a very staid affair though as most of us seem to have had such good christian educations (ha ha). Jaybee, you'll have to lead us astray

fisil · 05/04/2004 12:54

Oooh Croak, maybe we know each other (see, I can't resist)! There has been a member of my family at that school every year since 1978 ... so there is a chance ....

And by the way you laugh at "comprehensive education" I think I can guess who was head when you were there!

I was worrying I had killed this thread death by admission of being from kings! We weren't all that bad, honest!

OP posts:
coppertop · 05/04/2004 13:21

Ex-Kings people, please explain the system you had with people wearing capes (makes you sound like batman!) and such things. The one good thing about SJF was that we hardly ever had prefects and things.

When is half-term?

Croak · 05/04/2004 13:39

Arggh, want to go into major gossip mode but the boy is stirring. Very quickly then (spelling will be even worse than usual, blame the school)I left in errrm '98 I think. How about you? Which head teacher do you mean, the "stand up" one or the moustachioed one, or one before my time? Think that both had ideas way above their station so can't work out which you're referring to
Coppertop, the gown thing was for prefects, which pretty much meant everybody in the upper sixth. They were really raggedy and horrible though, God knows who thought they were a good idea.

Croak · 05/04/2004 13:44

Capes sounds way cooler I think. Sorry don't know when half term is either, babe is too small for school. Hope its not end of May/beginning of June though cos I've got blooming exams then.

Jaybee · 05/04/2004 13:55

My ex BIL went to the K school - the capes always intrigued me too.

fisil · 05/04/2004 14:40

OMG, I just calculated I left in 92. How old am I! My younger brother is due to leave at the end of this year, but I'm not sure that means he was even there when you were. Still, my Mum is the one who has been there since 1978 - so watch which teachers you cuss! (how's that for anonymity!)

I imagine that the gowns were introduced by the head I mentioned, who you probably wouldn't know then Croak. He left just before I did, and the deputy (who is still there) was acting head for a short while - who I think is great, btw - but I know of the current head too. I think that under the current head the place is run less like a private school than it used to be (but that's not saying much).

PS I love cape too, sounds much better than gown. They were scanky in 92 - dread to think what they were like in 98! Everyone had them because everyone was a prefect because someone had worked out it looked good on university application forms. Hmmm. Wonder what their priorities were then ...

half term in peterborough is week beginning 31st may.

fisil · 05/04/2004 19:48

That's my half term too, so shall we arrange a meet up one day that week? Day or night? Kiddies or no kiddies? Kiwisbird, would you be able (want?) to get back to P'boro on a weekday, or should we go for a weekend?

OP posts:
kiwisbird · 05/04/2004 19:51

awww thanks for inviting me!
Maybe later in the yr, we are frantic with house selling here, I am moving to Lincs soon, so will arrange to come down one night when moved in!
Enjoy your meet!

coppertop · 05/04/2004 19:51

How old are everyone's children? Maybe that would make it easier to decide. If they're a similar age then perhaps with the children?

By late May/early June ds1 will be 3yrs 11mths and ds2 will be 16 mths.

helenmc · 05/04/2004 21:13

my darlings are oldddd...10 and coming up 7, and as i work can I gate crash an evening event ??

coppertop · 05/04/2004 21:16

Evenings are good for me too. Dh can look after the ds's.

Croak · 05/04/2004 22:21

My goodness fsil, I'm soooo nosey to know who your mum is, will you tell me at the meet up We must have been at school at the same time for one year but I think I must only possibly have been memorable as one of those first years so tiddly and immature that you can't believe they're out of playgroup. I do remember the head that was there when you were, he taught me history and I remember being terrified. Also have fond memories of the deputy you mention, must be one of the only ones (my dp, for example, thinks that I'm absolutely mad)but I took his subjects at A level and he was a very good teacher.

On the subject of age, obviously you are not old at all, I am just slightly disgracefully young for this childrearing larkWe might know some of the same people anyway though as I lived next door to a lovely girl who must have been in the year below you and also dp's sister was in the year below that.

Was just wondering though, re the meet, if it doesn't matter to anyone else, whether we could possibly either have it during the first weekend, at the beginning of the week or at the weekend beginning the 4th. Really just avoiding
the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday (during the day, I'll be free by the evening ) as I've got my final exam on that day. Its a language one and there's only so much you can do so I'm not going to be slogging away all week but think I'd better not be out in the direct run up. Of course if that's tricky for anyone else then it doesn't matter at all and perhaps I could come to a later one along with kiwisbird.
Apart from those stringent requirements I'm completely flexible Either day or evening would be fine by me. My ds is 17 months btw
Sorry for such a mammoth ramble

fisil · 06/04/2004 08:26

Ds is 15 months right now, so it sounds like we have a few the same age, but quite a range too. I think I'd go for an evening one! Is that bat still there? I had some lovely meals there.Kiwi's thai place sounds good too.

Urm, Croak, I think my mum probably taught you at A-level. I certainly had the same A-level teacher that you mention (we had our lessons in his office) and my mum took us for the rest of our classes in that A-level. Now, that's blown my cover, hasn't it. Intrigued to know who your neighbours and in laws are (and a bit scared, I didn't really come out of my shell until university).

OP posts:
fisil · 06/04/2004 08:26

oops, when I say bat, I mean boat of course (thinking about my mother, maybe ...)

OP posts:
Croak · 06/04/2004 09:40

Yep, your mum definitely taught me fisil Think I was quite quiet and harmless so hopefully she doesn't have any terribble memories of me. To make it even more bizarre, I was thinking about this in the bath last night and realised that, if your mum was who I thought, then my mum taught your little brother at primary school!
Both of your suggestions sound fab, I've never eaten on the boat before so would be nosey to try it after going to the pub part so often. The Thai place was lovely when I went as well.
Better go, ds is very unimpressed by my efforts to read to him while typing, was trying to resist saying this but 'its such a small world'.

Jaybee · 06/04/2004 09:46

Helenmc - my two are 10 and 7 too. I work full time as well so never sure when I will be off during a half term.
I hope to head over to Peterborough next week as I am off - may take the kids round Ferry Meadows -we used to walk down there when we lived in Peterborough.

Croak · 06/04/2004 12:31

Love Ferry Meadows Jaybee but watch out for all the goose poo, we had a lovely incident when ds was crawling
Do you think you'd be able to come up for an evening or during one of the weekends in half term?

kiwisbird · 06/04/2004 13:11

and the geese can be rather aggressive too, I really miss Ferry Meadows and Truckfest

helenmc · 06/04/2004 18:48

never been to Truckfest but manage the Beer Festival every year (except his as we'll be on holiday)

fisil · 06/04/2004 22:27

ah, beerfest. Now you're talking!

OP posts:
Croak · 06/04/2004 22:32

Thats got to be a meet up
