dh hands are still a tad shakey after his stroke, but he does his own meds. but he seems to drop one or 2 a night. so i end up scabbling about looking for a tiny pill. [sigh]

Oh hun xxxxx I was wondering about you today, hows the feeding going with dd? Hope its getting easier xxx

aitch71 · 19/08/2006 21:37

oh misdee, i don't know you well enough to hug you, but i wanted to check that you have got one of those enormous monthly pill boxes for your dh. you can fill them up at the beginning of the month and then unclick the little individual pots every day. or i think you can get weekly ones with mornign, afternoon and evening doses. would that help him at all?

Blossomhill · 19/08/2006 22:45

Just seen this.
Aww Poor Peter. My heart really goes out to him

misdee · 19/08/2006 23:14

those little pill boxes wont hold a daily dosage. he takes 13pills in the mornings, another 3 during the day and 10 at night. and then that dosage can change depending on his anticoagulant result.

i had to pick up morphine pills earlier. he knows when he has dropped them, and normally manges to spot where it has gone. none missing yet.

this must be sooooo hard for you misdee.

I have no idea what you're going through and can only guess. Such an horrendous situtation for all concerned.

Thinking of you.

ps hows your pram fetish?

monkeytrousers · 20/08/2006 06:47

Hi Misdee. I didn't know that Peter had had a stroke. How awful for you all. x

misdee · 20/08/2006 07:59

He had a stroke last year. it left him with bad eyesight in his left eye, bad memory and a bit of shakes.

champs, pram fetish is still there but cant indulge. currently have an old p+t kiwi for carrying peters stuff in as well as dd3, but i have ripped some of the fabric, so have contacted to see if i can get a replacement from p+t.

Would make it easier if peter did his pill over a big dinner tray?
One with a deep-ish rim?

If he dropped them they couldn't roll off then?

misdee · 20/08/2006 08:03

good idea lady T. though i think it happens when he is opening the packets up.

OP posts:
LadyTophamHatt · 20/08/2006 08:05

could he open them with scissors instead?

misdee · 20/08/2006 08:17

some of them are the ones where you have to peel a top layer off then pop them open. no idea if sisscors will get through them.

LadyTophamHatt · 20/08/2006 08:25

Hmmmmmm.....

misdee · 20/08/2006 08:28

i wish he'd just let me do it, but he knows his meds best.

aaronsmummy · 20/08/2006 08:46

misdee i know he probably wants to this as it is something he can actually do for himself and retain a little independence but if one of children got hold of one it would be disastrous. Another worry for you on top of all the rest. If it was me I would be cowering in a corner talking to myself all day, I havent an ounce of your strength. Take Care xxx

misdee · 20/08/2006 08:59

i know AM, but he always does it with the gate shut, and no kids about. and he knows what he has sropped and where it has fallen, he just cant bend to pick it up himself.

OP posts:
jellyjelly · 20/08/2006 09:07

Could you get a tray for him, in case they do fall.

misdee · 20/08/2006 09:10

i will dig a tray out and pop it on the side for him

Misdee.
My Mum is on about 91 tablets a week, and I've lost count of the number of times she's managed to spill water on them or something whilst counting them out. And she cant open the foil because her fingertips are too cracked. While she's sorting them, she lays out big tupperware boxes to open them above and break them into, then transfers into her pill holder.

Just an idea, but if the pill holders are obviuosly not big enough, I've seen ice cube trays with lids (for doing weaning purees), which'd be like a big version of a pill holder?

aitch71 · 20/08/2006 17:25

or could he get a funnel and 7 pill bottles marked mon-fri and do them in a oner for the week? or would he need 21 bottles if he takes meds three times per day? still, collecting the bottles would be a task for the children maybe, or you could ask for them at the pharmacy...
would that make them easier to take or would tipping them into his mouth make it more of a choking hazard? i suppose you needn't tip them in and take them all at the one time.sorry to be so relentlessly practical, i feel for you misdee, really i do...

trinityrhino · 20/08/2006 17:29

what about a fishing tackle box to keep them all in and then you could do the opening at the beggining of the week so then you'd only be picking them up once a week {smile]

misdee · 20/08/2006 19:56

not to keen on keeping little boxes like the medicine pill boxes about, as he has to take morphine, so everything is under lock and key in two narrow cabinets. it will be harder for the kids to open one of the blister packs than a pill box full of meds.
