Just got a note to say I've been caught speeding, eeekkk.
I was doing 36 in a 30 zone.
It's a huge main road, just one long straight road. I'm normally really careful and don't speed as a rule at all, but obviously slipped over the 30 limit by 6mph.
What happens now?
Will I get points and a fine?

Hang on, hang on. "They" don;t normally tell you the speed which you were doing in excess of the speed limit.
What's the note? Who from? What's it say exactly?

laneydaye · 17/08/2006 21:07

i think youll get a fine through in about 10 days......

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 21:08

Yup - once its all update don you driving licence, remember to let your insurance company know as if you don't, something happens and they find out they can use it as a technicality to get out of paying!!!

IdrisTheDragon · 17/08/2006 21:08

According to DH who has recently become a magistrate, you'll get 3 points and a fine (he thinks £30 but isn't sure).

Just to let you know my dh's fine was £60, but that was two years ago, also had three points.

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 21:11

Think it depends on whether its a first time offence or not

Bradsmum · 17/08/2006 21:12

It's 3 points and £60 fine - I got caught by a speed camera doing 36 in a 30 (I thought it was a 40 zone)...

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:12

As far as I knew, the speed wasn't revealed until one fessed ones errant nature as there are mitigations for certain speeds in excess of the speed limit. Mine just said that I was speeding in a 30. Turned out I was doing 37 (on a 4 lane carriageway in my defence Guv)
It's £60 round these parts.

IdrisTheDragon · 17/08/2006 21:13

DH needs to brush up on his knowledge I think (amazingly neither of us has been caught speeding.....yet).

Thomcat · 17/08/2006 21:17

It's a letter from Metropolitan Police, says I was doing 36 in a 30 zone at 10am. Letter asks me to say wheter it was me driving and then I guess I get the points and the fine.

Think I have points on mylicence already but from years ago, can't even really remember.

Ohhhhh NO.

Feel like throwing a Niki from Big Brother style tantrum!

FFS.

36 bloody miles an hour, on a massive straight main road, gthat has no houses on it or anything. Should be a bloody 40 zone.

Buggery bollocks.

Don't mind the fine but don't want the points.

Aggggghhhhhhhhhhhh.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/08/2006 21:19

Ah, see - i dont mind teh points but dont want the fine.....

ARse to it i say.

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:22

You have my sympathy. No one ever used to get my sympathy on such issues as I am a Safety Engineer and I am aware of the direct corelation between speed and severity of injury in an accident.... and then I found out how easy it is for the normally law abiding citizen to be caught out.
Once again, (especially for VVVQV ) [bollocks emoticon]

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:22

I'm sure I spelled correlation right on that message

Thomcat · 17/08/2006 21:31

cheers squarer
i do really try not to speed. i would have seen I was creeping over 30 and pulled back. Easy to slip over 30 on some roads.
What a massive pain.

cleaninglady · 17/08/2006 21:41

its so hard to stay at 30 !! i was done about 6 months ago - said i was doing 38 in 30 zone - 3 points and 60 squid fine - bother!DH highly amused as first time in 15 years of driving ive had anything and I was always very smug and said he deserved it when he had speeding fines in the past!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/08/2006 21:42

LOL thanks Squarer!

I was caught fair and square, cant complain. Was in a rush to see hunker....

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:44

Yes it is. Feel really sad for you.
I got mine after a convoluted sheer nightmare of a day. I did consider going to court and just crying to be honest but probably couldn't even muster the tears at the time so just signed everything off and accepted my fate.
You will probably feel better tomorrow when you have slept on it.
(((hugs)))

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/08/2006 21:44

You will get an SP30, £40 fine and 3 points for 3 years
