Speeding

Just got a note to say I've been caught speeding, eeekkk.
I was doing 36 in a 30 zone.
It's a huge main road, just one long straight road. I'm normally really careful and don't speed as a rule at all, but obviously slipped over the 30 limit by 6mph.
What happens now?
Will I get points and a fine?

I have started sticking to 3rd gear in 30 limits - the engine noise goes up as your speed increases. Prob use more fuel but better that than the other (I only have 3 points currently but still have 9 under insurance companies' 5-yr rule)

UrsulatheSeawitch · 17/08/2006 21:46

£60 fine btw. And they do quote your speed in the initial letter.

TC, at 36 you may be offered re-education for £90 but no points.

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:46

Lol VVV. Did you give her the kick up the bum she deserves?

hunkermunker · 17/08/2006 21:48

Oh bugger TC and oh bugger, VVV

(Which road was it, TC? Local one? )

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:49

It varies between counties Ursula. No mention of speed in letters here until you accept responsibility. Re-education in some counties costs as little as £50, but the scheme is not being expanded any more areas (last thing I heard. If it is available it is offered in the initial letter).

Squarer · 17/08/2006 21:51

EEEEEEKKKK! Did I say kick up the bum? Me and my atrocious grammar.... I meant to say kiss on the cheek

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/08/2006 21:51

Pah, tis not a big deal. Just means I cant be smug to DP about my immaculate driving anymore

Thomcat · 17/08/2006 21:53

Hi Hunker, was going to text you tonight to say DP working late - come over but then realised had left mobile in car and DP came home from work, so it didn't happen.

It was Alexandra Ave btw. It should be a 40 zone shouldn't it?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 17/08/2006 21:53

Ooh, I didn't see that it was you rushing to see me! [eek]

Er...I'll come and feed you peeled grapes when you're at work on the chain gang - howzat?

(Squarer...I'm watching you... )

UrsulatheSeawitch · 17/08/2006 21:55

I've been done twice in a road that should be a 40 (and was once...) Infuriating.

Fine varies between counties, Squarer? Even more infuriating. They are raking it in round here

hunkermunker · 17/08/2006 21:56

Have been thinking we should meet up, TC - let's sort it - an evening would be great too, cos much as I love our children, it's nice to have a proper chat

Alexandra Avenue should def be a 40! Long Lane's the one my foot always gets a bit heavy on - it's so wide and smooth and...fast-looking!

Thomcat · 17/08/2006 21:56

Don't get that post hunker?

OP posts:
Thomcat · 17/08/2006 21:57

I get your last post but not the one before it, oh don't worry.

Yes, yes, an evening, good idea.

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 17/08/2006 21:59

Oh, sorry, TC - that post re grapes was to VVV - she got her speeding fine rushing to see me (here's where I go "why would anyone rush to see me?" - I would if I was self-deprecating - but I'm bloody great, so I totally understand and I was well worth the fine, IMBHO )

Squarer · 17/08/2006 22:07

Sorry Ursuala.. twas my wording. The fine doesn;t vary - it's the telling you what you were doing over the speed limit varies as to whether they do or not (and the re-education fee)

kisses Hunker on cheek ()

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/08/2006 22:09

Bad news is £60 fine!!

Squarer · 17/08/2006 22:16

By the way ladies... if you feel a road should be a certain speed, and you feel the majority of drivers drive in excess of this speed, there is a case for the council to actually increase the speed limit as doing so actually decreases the speed that some drivers travel and therefore has the potential to increase the safety of the road (and there is research based advice to say so). It sounds arse about face, but is true and may give you a sense of satisfaction in pointing this out.

Squarer · 17/08/2006 22:18

No.. bad news is 3 points. Although I have heard that insurance companies accept SP30 as too commonplace to insure against, it's not something I have had to test yet. If they do insure against it, it's more than £60 guaranteed.

redshoes · 18/08/2006 07:33

this has just happened to me too - 36 in a 30 zone on a big straight road I thought was a 40. I am such a careful driver too! 20 years with nothing...
