I've been asked to share and ask others to report the page and it really is awful. Facebook are refusing to take it down because it contains no nudity...what do we do?????

They can investigate away. I'd rather do something than not because of 'what if's'. What if everybody turned a blind eye?. Authorities KNOW people can innocently see this stuff. Which is why there are agencies you can report it to.

AnyFuckerHQ · 24/02/2014 14:07

if ordinary people do not want this shit in existence at all are we meant to throw up our hands and let the "perves" take over ?

AgaPanthers · 24/02/2014 14:11

You report to the police/IWF/etc. and wait for their response. That doesn't involve Mumsnet.

These images will continue to circulate among paedophiles when the page goes down, and they will have circulated already for months or years. Making a massive thread to get one particular page taken down RIGHT NOW hasn't made a difference to this.

There are police and other professionals working full time on these issues, they aren't twiddling their thumbs waiting to be spammed by mumsnet users so they can get to work.

AgaPanthers · 24/02/2014 14:14

No you don't do nothing, you report it to the police.

waltermittymissus · 24/02/2014 14:15

People have already done everything you said Aga.

hmc · 24/02/2014 14:18

Which - we - have Aga (doh!)

hmc · 24/02/2014 14:19

Moreover more people have reported than otherwise would have occurred after spotting it on mumsnet

bottleofbeer · 24/02/2014 14:21

Meh. I'll never turn a blind eye to stuff like that. Police and relevant authorities were alerted. Metaphorical stones it might be, but better than sitting scratching your arse while it goes on.

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 24/02/2014 14:24

Um aga, helps if you read the fucking thread.

AgaPanthers · 24/02/2014 14:27

From Sunday evening to Monday lunchtime is not long to respond.

Perhaps you can get Microsoft to stop distributing and suggesting child abuse on Bing Images?

Yonineedaminute · 24/02/2014 14:29

aga don't you think that if mumsnet were worried about legal ramifications they would have deleted the thread already.

Loads of people have reported this page to the police/IWF etc.

I think the other thing about this particular page is that it is on Facebook, a widely known and used website for many people.

FiveExclamations · 24/02/2014 14:35

Just been tweeting with Women Action and Media who have an on-going dialogue with Facebook since the #FBRape campaign, if we find any more of these pages or images and Facebook refuses to delete they will help us push it See here for details

FoxesRevenge · 24/02/2014 14:42

Perhaps you can get Microsoft to stop distributing and suggesting child abuse on Bing Images?

What was Microsoft's response when you contacted them aga?

loopylou6 · 24/02/2014 14:48

Can I report without clicking the link?

EirikurNoromaour · 24/02/2014 14:54

The page has gone. I think the owner deleted it rather than Facebook.

AgaPanthers · 24/02/2014 14:56

Microsoft claim to have addressed this issue:

www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2013/08/words_banned_from_bing_and_google_s_autocomplete_algorithms.html

And have promised David Cameron the same

descrier.co.uk/technology/2013/11/google-microsoft-block-images-child-abuse-online/

as noted in the Slate article however they seem to have invested almost very little money/effort into this. E.g., if you type in 'menina', (girl in Portuguese) into Bing, it returns an innocuous set of results, but then offers a set of related search terms including 'meninas 10 anos peladas' 'menina 15 anos tranzando', and so on.

Their search engine algorithm actually encourages people to access child abuse images.

urmydarlings · 24/02/2014 15:03

Its all so depressing!

Mignonette · 24/02/2014 15:11

My friend can hack into any FB page in two minutes- I saw her do it. I think she can hack into all kinds of stuff.

It was a salutatory warning to not bank online too - she didn't do anything other than show me how easy it is to get into so called secure banking systems and I'll say no more than that.

AgaPanthers · 24/02/2014 15:12

Bullshit.

Mignonette · 24/02/2014 15:14

You are VERY naive. And late to the table too.

Koothrapanties · 24/02/2014 15:20

Aga, due to this thread the page has been removed. Everyone has reported it to the relevant authorities and it has been shut down. I don't understand why you think this thread should not exist. Why shouldn't it be on mumsnet? It has raised awareness of a serious issue. Can you explain what you mean?

AgaPanthers · 24/02/2014 15:22

Er, no.

You don't just magically hack into computer systems, like something out of a cheesy movie. There are specific methods of attack that hackers use, like bad passwords, SQL injection, social engineering, buffer overflows, privilege escalation, etc.

Implying that banking systems are just waiting to be opened like a can of beans is wrong.

What is insecure, for example, is logging into a banking system on a computer that you don't control, because it's possible to strip the SSL and install a private security certificate to proxy between the browser and bank's server.

There are lots of ways for banks to get compromised, e.g., personal data being stolen perhaps as part of offshoring projects, but they would be specific ad hoc exploits used at some point, and not just left as an exercise to share with friends on mumsnet.

Mignonette · 24/02/2014 15:27

Er yes you DO when you are an I.T expert. I have watched her do it. Nothing 'magical' about it at all. facebook takes minutes, banking and other systems take a bit longer.

You are very naive if you think it cannot be done. Very naive.

If you think there aren't idiots using their work computer to check their balance and access other personal information then again, you are sadly mistaken.

Mignonette · 24/02/2014 15:29

And I think that you are the one labouring under the impression that it is some super elite movie like ability when the reality is sadly rather more mundane than that.
