It's horrid. Mine were upset by posters in sports shops once - I think it was JDSports. Big posters in the window of sports people and one was of a (rugby? football? Dh knew who it was, I can't remember) man covered in blood. And I couldn't even say it was pretend - it was real, real person, real blood. Not necessary, imo.

absolutely and categorically NO I would not be happy to see that poster.

I don't think you are being over sensitive at all.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2006 16:41

I think my children would be more disturbed by a poster like

this than the one in the OP

southeastastra · 01/08/2006 16:43

i think my son would like that, he like darth maul - is snoop doggy dog an actor now?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2006 16:45

but those eyes are freaky! Would give me the jitters if I saw it in a much bigger version than that little one on the screen!

Enid · 01/08/2006 16:50

really?

dont see how a face is more graphic than a severed head spurting blood

how odd

southeastastra · 01/08/2006 16:51

i blame star wars

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2006 16:54

but surely on the poster the blood isn't actually moving (unless movie posters have gone all hi-tech) it makes less of an impact.

FWIW - DS1 (5yrs) just crept upstairs when I was looking at it again and just said " that's a man.........and his heads fallen off" while laughing hysterically - and has gone downstairs giggling loudly

Jimjams2 · 01/08/2006 17:23

I would just get endless questions from ds2 about how the head had fallen off.

flack · 01/08/2006 17:31

DD (4) is going thru a phase where she is very afraid of death: "But Mummy, if I die...My head might fall off!" "My feet might fall off!" "Something might eat me!" She is getting better, but was very anxious (much crying) about it. So I'm another vote against the poster.

handlemecarefully · 01/08/2006 17:34

No, complain.

hulababy · 01/08/2006 17:43

No, I don't think it is suitable to be displayed in a family environment personally.

Greensleeves · 01/08/2006 17:45

No I would be quite upset if my 3yo saw that.

The film looks quite good though

MrsBigD · 01/08/2006 17:53

HRHQueenOfQuotes any consolation dd would probably do the same or just state 'the man has lost his head'. Even though only 4.5yo she seems to know that it's only make believe! she sometimes amazes me. However, she's afraid of the dark. Go figure

Though I think they probably should have placed the poster in a slightly less eye catching area if possible.

fullmoonfiend · 01/08/2006 17:57

Cinemas make loads of money out of kids and parents (think of how much they charge for sweets/drinks/popcorn etc for a start) and I think I would complain if it upset you or your kids.

psychomum5 · 01/08/2006 18:05

I agree not exactly pleasant to look at, but can I say that my 4yr old today chose a lovely jammie donut from the bakery, as we were going to friends and wanted to take something....

served up the cakes, with DS2 and his donut....

cue much laghter as he smeared himself with the jam and yelled..."am bleedin......bleedin.....help.....need spiderman save me.......am bleeding", followed by a huge thud.

elder kiddies yelled out....."quick....CSI....we NEEEEEEEEEEEEED you"

ok.....my kiddies officialy damaged.

Enid · 01/08/2006 18:14

yes my kids do stuff like that too

but think thats missing the point tbh

OP posts:
doobydoo · 01/08/2006 18:17

Yuck..kids and grownups are just bombarded with sh*t all the time and quite alot of the time we have no control over it.I would complain if i were you.But they will prob think you are abit weird

fullmoonfiend · 01/08/2006 18:19

Mind you, my ds aged 5 watched LOTR without a murmur, but used to have nightmares over once seeing a Gaviscon advert where it looked like the body was on fire (from heartburn!) go figure!

sparklemagic · 01/08/2006 18:20

yes, well done for complaining enid; sometimes you have to withdraw your consent to things! At least now the head office who 'OK'd it' won't be able to say that no-one had a problem with it, because you have spoken up. I do happen to think that all these violent images have a cumulative effect on society and I think it's worth making a fuss about. It was over the top, that picture. If only more people would speak up as you did - I bet lots of kids had a problem with this image but people just don't go as far as complaining...well done you!

donnie · 01/08/2006 18:20

it is vile and I am also sick of having to tolerate images of violence and suffering as 'entertainment'. There is enough real life suffering in the world.

On a slightly different tack, my 4.5 yr old dd1 started singing ' loosen up my buttons' ( yukky pussycat dolls tarty song about shagging)the other day, she'd heard it at her friends house a few times. I was disturbed - am I overreacting???

Enid · 01/08/2006 18:21

yes they probably will (think I am weird) and I can see that a lot of people have no problem wtih it

but I am quite glad that I do IYSWIM

proper grumpy old women territory
