My newsagent didn't have it in but the lad said they "get the magazines on Fridays" - wot - all of them?

So will look again tomorrow!

prufrock · 04/03/2004 23:15

It made me cry as well TC - and the pink chair picture of Lottie is abolutely adorable. I think you (and Aloha) did a great job of providing areally well balanced view of DS.

However Aloha I was slightly disappointed that you didn't mention Mumsnet as one of the best ways to while away the working day in the other article - where's your loyalty?

Angeliz · 05/03/2004 00:07

DP got it for me tonight at Asda ,(as i forgot today).

Thomcat. how adorable is Lottie sitting on that chair, and the one kissing you...

I did cry when i was reading your story, (and i don't cry that easy!), made me remember those baby days! (am broody!)

You are all so lucky to have each other and all be so much loved up

emsiewill · 05/03/2004 07:39

I went and bought Eve today just becasue of this!! I have to say i was feeling really crappy so before I'd left the shop I had a sit down and read the article, it brought tears to my eyes It was so heartwarming an real without being too gushy and sentimental. Well done both of you TC and Aloha. Even DH was impressed, the power of mumsnet

Zoe · 05/03/2004 22:57

It's a really great article and you come across as a fabulous family in it - you should be really proud, and happy that you did it!

Demented · 05/03/2004 23:44

Went out and bought this today (I'm sure Eve will notice a sharp rise in their sales this month ). Lottie is absolutely beautiful and it was lovely to read your story.

Quite surprised by Eve magazine never considered it before, might buy it again.

LIZS · 06/03/2004 10:16

Finally got it on my hands. What a positive article and lovely pics. Lottie looks so mischievous and I love those boots! Admit to blubbering a bit too.

Well done to all concerned.

motherinferior · 06/03/2004 10:19

Thomcat, it's really lovely.

And look, I know you feel that you're not special in your outlook. I think you are; I used to run the press office at Mencap, and I met loads and loads of parents and lots of them were terrific but I think very very few of them were nearly as terrific as you.

I showed Lottie to my dd1 and said 'isn't she lovely' and dd1 agrees, and she is ALWAYS right

Wow! Thanks everyone. Thanks for leaving your homes, paying oput £3, readui=ing it and bothering to give me your feedback, I'm so grateful and feel humble and chuffed all at the same time. You've all been so lovely and I hope that the article really does the job it was intended to do and perhaps provide some comfort to a worried pregant parent out there.

Aloha rang me on Friday to say that the Evening Standard rang her and they want to buy the piece!!!
Money will go to DS charities I've thanksed Aloha on the SN section just now, but would like to do it agian here. Thanks Aloha, from a great little idea came a wonderful thing. You're the best They may be my words and Lotties face but it was your idea that got them there and your idea that may help someone and may change peoples views??? Thanks again xx

I bought it today too. The article made a tear appear in my eye, which is near impossible at the moment, as my ADs seem to stop me crying! What a lovely family you have Thomcat.

Thomcat · 06/03/2004 21:53

Thanks Lavender, that's really kind

lavender1 · 06/03/2004 22:03

you're welcome...mumsnet can be often so full of awful news snippits etc....so lovely to hear someone with nothing but good things to say and not afraid of really opening their heart to the world..(it would be great to hear such openess from everyone you meet....makes the world go round).....

Skara · 06/03/2004 22:16

just finished the mag this evening, after rushing off to buy a copy yesterday Lottie is a beautiful little girl and I loved the bit about the world not needing any more lawyers! So true, and lots of parents would do well to remember it...

Thomcat · 06/03/2004 22:35

When i went to Christening classes when i wanted to get Lottie baptised, one of the things the priest asked us to do was go round and say what you wanted for our child. All the parents took a turn and their ambitions for their children ranged from doctors to cricket players. I was amazed. I was last to be asked and I said truthfully that all I really wanted was for her to be happy. If that meant being happy working in a sweetshop or sweeping the streets, staking shelves, or if being happy meant saving lives, it didn't matter. If she was proud of herslef and did what she was doing to the best of her ability, how could you ask for more??

Maybe that's what having a child with DS did for me and I'm glad it did. maybe I would have felt that way anyway, i hope so, but I'm glad I feel that way now and don't have any preconceived ideas about what I want Lottie to acheive in that way. In a way I feel lucky that whatever she acheives will such an accomplisment that we'll never stress about GSCSE results etc. Another silver lining That's not to say child number 2 won't cause us worry in that department!!

Skara · 07/03/2004 00:07

Thomcat, would you like to be my mum?

tigermoth · 07/03/2004 15:56

I do hope there's a copy of Eve left for me to buy on Monday!

I look forward reading all about lottie

popsycal · 07/03/2004 16:32

Oh I just read the article this afternoon, Thomcat, my first reaction is wow!
Your daughter is so beautiful - the picture of her on her little pink chair and the most amazing photograph - really captures her personality (even though I have never met her, it seems a really natural and 'truthful' picture iyswim)
And you sound positively glowing throughout.

Well done to you all!
