AAARRGHH! MY SITE'S DOWN!

Rhubarb · 26/02/2004 14:33

Panic! Panic! Panic! I don't know where my site has gone! It was here and now it's not! I don't know how long it's been gone or where it could be! I tried connecting to it in Dreamweaver, but it cannot be found! Is there a Missing Site helpline I could phone? Was it something I said? Has it run away? I mean, it never said it was depressed or anything, it seemed perfectly happy last time I looked! You just don't see these things coming do you?

What am I talking about? I JUST WANT MY SITE BACK!

Maybe it's just gone to the loo or to have a cup of tea? Try not to panic. Your site loves you and won't go far, I'm sure.

SoupDragon · 26/02/2004 14:36

It's probably posting on Mumsnet and got carried away...

Rhubarb · 26/02/2004 14:37

It didn't even leave a note......(sob, sob)

There there... maybe someone will find a replacement in a charity shop and post it too you.

Have you looked down the back of your washing machine?

Rhubarb · 26/02/2004 14:41

Awww, this is serious! Where has the bugger gone to? How do you get these things back?!

OP posts:
emmatmg · 26/02/2004 14:41

LOL soupdragon, I haven't got a replacement either!

JJ · 26/02/2004 14:42

What's the URL? (I used to know that, I know....)

SenoraPostrophe · 26/02/2004 14:42

Poor you, Rhubarb - we used to have hosting problems all the time.

You need to call the hosting company - could be network problems or a server problem. Is it a free web-space set up or do you pay for it?

SoupDragon · 26/02/2004 14:42

Will have a think... got to run as it's school pick up time and DS2 is naked...!

Twinkie · 26/02/2004 14:43

I will put up some posters immediately - what does it look like, have you thought how much to offer for a reward, was it insured??

Rhubarb · 26/02/2004 14:46

The site is www.unplannedpregnancies.co.uk. It's kinda square shaped, a light blue (for calm) with a pregnant woman on the front.

I do get the web space from a company, and I've emailed them telling them they'll be sacked if I don't get my site back! What if they've lost it? It could be floating around in cyber-space forever! What happens when sites get lost? Where do they do? Is there a Missing Site forum somewhere? A Homeless Site shelter perhaps? I'd hate to think of it out there, in the cold, all alone!

What is happening to me today at all?

It's probably not lost, Rhubarb - think how many times mumsnet has been lost only to return all content intact!

Maybe save a copy on to your computer when it comes back. Also phone the company if you can. Most are rubbish at dealing with emails.

Rhubarb · 26/02/2004 14:52

Erm, I don't have a phone number for them! Never had any problems before so I've never needed to call them. You see, I've just not been taking care of it properly. What with the baby and stuff, I know I've neglected it lately, and now this.....please, please come back sitey, you're not in any trouble, but I miss you greatly and just want you home! If you're listening, or if anyone knows where sitey is, please, please get in touch!

OP posts:
Twinkie · 26/02/2004 14:58

Fucking hell how inconsiderate considering there is a huge chance that I will need it in the next couple of weeks - Rhubarb - I will put up 10 Kit Kats reward - anyone else want to add to that??

Rhubarb · 26/02/2004 16:10

Why Twinkie? Have I missed something? Ooooh, do tell!

I will pay £5 to Mumsnet for its safe return. So if someone out there has it, or knows where it is, please get in touch!

Maybe I'll start getting postcards from foreign places? Or ransom emails? I wonder who I could get on the case?

Watson: This is a tricky one Holmes, I must admit to having no idea at all!
Holmes: That's not difficult for you Watson. Sites do not just disappear, all we need to do is unravel the clues. I would say that it was taken by a large man, recently back from Africa, with a scar across his right temple. His shoes are worn at the soles, he smokes Benson and Hedges, is recently divorced and keeps a small dark dog, probably a terrier.
Watson: Good God Holmes! How on earth do you deduce all that!
Holmes: I don't Watson, I just say all that to make you look stupid! Now be a good fellow and pass me my pipe....
Watson: What are you going to do?
Holmes: Dance the Samba, what do you think you insufferable fool! How did I get landed with such a numbskull for a partner! Now close your mouth before your tongue falls out!

To be continued.....

Well I know you're all dying to know what has happened! I can see the excitment written all over your faces! Well I shall tease you no more! The hosting company are in the process of moving, so they have taken my site with them. I should gain access to it over the weekend. The site says it is very sorry, but it simply wan't happy where it was, it needed a change. But I can still see it from time to time, and of course, it will always phone.

Thank you so much for your concern all of you, it really meant a lot to me at the time. So many emails of support - NOT ONE YOU UNCARING SODS!

SenoraPostrophe · 27/02/2004 10:13

what? They could have moved and had the site back up in minutes if they'd done it properly. They also should have emailed to warn you.

I suggest you get very snotty and get a partial refund. And maybe change hosting company.

tigermoth · 28/02/2004 08:19

when you find your runaway site, will you be putting it in the naughty corner of the web for 10 minutes to teach it a lesson? oh no, I don't think I mean that!

TheOldDragon · 28/02/2004 08:32

I say ground it. No parties or evenings out for at least 2 months.

But Rhuby we couldn't e-mail you - we couldn't get onto your site to use the links

Rhubarb · 06/03/2004 17:17

The site has come home now. It's here in all it's glory. I did give it a good telling off and have now buttered it's feet.

But even sadder is that I have lost my parrot. He was stolen last weekend. Some bastards broke into the house last Sat night, trashed the place but only took him. They dragged him out from under the sofa where he'd been hiding (we found his feathers there), wrapped him in a little baby's winter jacket that I'd just bought and left on the sofa, and stuffed him into my dh's workbag. They took nothing else. It's been a week now and I've heard nothing despite lots of publicity. He was with me for 16 years and nothing can replace him. I feel very shitty. You find one thing only to lose another....

marthamoo · 06/03/2004 17:25

I'm sorry about your parrot, rhubarb - what a horrible thing to happen
