I have identifed a "type" who drive 4x4s in London, wondered if it was accurate...

I live in SW London, home of the tossy 4x4s that never see a hill or any mud.

It seems to me that these cars are often driven by teeny weeny pinstick women who are married to big rugby player type men. I think it follows that if you are an ickle bickle lollipop of a woman and you are attracted to a huge manly bear of a man that you like to be pwotected by your big man and so you feel the need for the same type of pwotection from your car.

Do you think I am right?

I mean, usually people are attracted to their own physical shape etc aren't they?

Here endeth the poisson psychology.

I haven't seen it but will keep an eye out for it (in case I miss it!) when I take DS to football on Saturday.

singersgirl · 13/07/2006 12:40

We are in SW14 too and do not have children at Sheen Mount. We're in Mortlake.

Agree with the whole 4x4 typology, physically and psychologically. From my broad sweeping observations, they are much more likely to be illegally or selfishly parked, driven badly etc.

And why would anyone who lives where we do, with limited parking and narrow streets, want to drive such a phemonmenally inconvenient car? Even leaving aside the environmental issues and the fact that someone driving one completely crushed the side panel of my normal car when she reversed into me at about 2 miles an hour.....How safe is that?

singersgirl · 13/07/2006 12:41

Countess D, I know the car you mean on Putney Bridge Road. Haven't seen it for a while though, but saw something similar at bus stop on Upper Richmond Road near Priest's Bridge last Friday....

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/07/2006 12:45

Serious question: are 4x4s that much worse than MPVs? Those are pretty big too and I think they were equally diliked at some point.

singersgirl · 13/07/2006 12:54

I think they are environmentally worse, but I'm also not sure about the safety issues. Parking-wise they're both as bad.

suejonez · 13/07/2006 12:55

My mums in mortlake - you're not one who parks their car diagonally on her road and blocks the pavement are you singersgirl?

MadamePlatypus · 13/07/2006 13:27

Umm, I went to Sheen Mount...

MadamePlatypus · 13/07/2006 13:35

Sadly property prices have now pushed out locals like me. We are forced to live south of the park.

MissChief · 13/07/2006 13:37

wandering in yr neck of the woods the other day was struck by how many of the hugest piles have a little corsa or sth parked on their drive. must be for the nanny i sppose while mum's in the 4x4 at the gym?

CountessDracula · 13/07/2006 15:15

or the teenagers

Countess Dracula - selfish, huh? - and you know me how?

MadamePlatypus · 13/07/2006 15:23

Or a 17th birthday present for Junior, MissChief

CountessDracula · 13/07/2006 15:26

from your description:

So basically what I should take from this thread is that I should be very rich, stick-thin, blonde, highlights, french manicure, can't see over the steering wheel, with rugger husband who is short with a small penis and that I have no consideration for other people or the environment? Yup - well, you hit the nail on the head, that sounds just like me

If you are like the last bit ie no consideration for other people and the environment, well, I rest my case

Funny isn't it, not ONE 4x4 driver has been able to post a valid reason for having it on here.

OP posts:
MadamePlatypus · 13/07/2006 15:32

Coolmama, I accept that people have been light heartedly sterotyping 4x4 drivers, but I think that if you want people to revise their opinions, come up with some valid reasons for having a 4x4 in London.

anteater · 13/07/2006 15:33

Not so Countess with the car-mess, on the MANY previous threads I, and many other have defended the right to drive what we want!
Like foxhunting and private education there is no right answer, just opinions..

CountessDracula · 13/07/2006 15:34

go on then anteater

do you live in London
do you drive a 4x4
and WHY? if so

OP posts:
anteater · 13/07/2006 15:36

CountessDracula · 13/07/2006 15:37

see, mud, fields, 4x4s, NO PROB

OP posts:
Coolmama · 13/07/2006 15:57

unlucky for you Countess Carmadness - my 4 x4 does time coming into London and back out again - and that's it! - no driving around town, no gym, lunch, school runs, etc - so have one foot outside and one foot in - where do I fit in now? - justified or vilified?

CountessDracula · 13/07/2006 16:01

get the train

I don't really care if you don't live in London tbh. Isn't it obvious that this is aimed at twats who live in London and never venture onto a muddy track let alone truly off-road

OP posts:
Coolmama · 13/07/2006 16:09

but that was my whole point - if you saw me in my 4 x 4 you would make a judgement call without any idea at all -

CountessDracula · 13/07/2006 16:11

dahling surely you could drive the nanny's micra in to London and leave the vile beast in the cuntry where it belongs
