got my dd's school leaving asssembly today as she of to secondary school in sept think its going to be very sad x

Hi Thorntons - last night was pretty tiring - got there for 7.30, finished at 5.30am. DH didn't have to leave for work until 8.30, so got just over 2 hours sleep while he deposited DD1 & friend at school and gave DD2 breakfast. Have been snoozing on the sofa with CBeebies on and am feeling a bit more awake!

It was in Festival Place, but disappointingly it was for a staff training video rather than a commercial (all us extras thought it was a commercial for TV) so unless I find a friend who works at M&S I won't see me being shop-assistant-wandering-in-background! But it was good, nice group of people, strange to have lunch at 1 in the morning...

There were some nice shoes going in the sale at Marks, don't know about kids stuff as we weere in the ladies' dep't. Laura Ashley in Winchester had a couple of nice bits last week - I bought DD2 a lovely dusky pink denim trouser suit half price (£30 for the jacket and trousers). Looks really good on her - not traditional LA, looks more Dior-like or something designer-ish.

Another wave of tiredness may creep in later - I feel a visit to the gym coming up - not to work out, but she can play in the 3-8s supervised bit (and I won't feel guilty about plonking her in front of the telly!) while I can chill out with some strong coffee!

housemum · 20/07/2006 11:06

I felt sad in a way when DD1 went to secondary - they suddenly seem so much older! Actually I found it a real change - from knowing the teachers and everything that goes on, to having very little contact with the school. Nothing wrong with the school, you are informed of things etc but it's just a different environment.

Positive note - headlice stop at secondary school! We had endless troubles with headlice at juniors (I kept pestering thwe school to have set bugbusting days where all kids were supposed to be done that night at home, as I kept clearing DD1 and they'd be back within the week), but after a summer break, she never caught them again - and hopefully at 13 that's the end of it until DD2 brings them back from pre-school.....

mrratty · 20/07/2006 11:07

housemum - sounds like a long night but good to do something different!
lindac - it's tea tree conditioner which they really hate but as I have some vodka I will give it a go.

thorntons, lucky you going sale shopping .. i've overspent already so won't be doing much sale shopping
lindac, that's very nice of them to email you some pics form the casting! I never get things like that .. just get to keep the hair accessories in dd's hair, that's all! Good luck!
Oh, dd1 had her end of yr2 presentation last week, and teachers spoke a few words about each child and presented them with a photo plaques .. so many teary-eyed yet proud parents

thorntons · 20/07/2006 11:38

,Housemum thanks for the update and sounds as if it was interesting ,fun way to make some cash. Are you do any more nights?
Thumbs, I have told myself I will try not to buy too much and will be sensible and get a few bigger things to put by for this autumn and next year for dd. Need to get a couple of birthday pressies too.
Lindac, glad to hear casting went well. Fingers crossed for your dd and how lucky to get some pics from casting too !

housemum · 20/07/2006 11:39

perfumelady · 20/07/2006 14:45

housemum do you live near winchester? i live in SO
bet you will feel worse tomorrow, i worked in m&s through the night for 5 years started at 9.00pm and finished at 6.30am god knows how i done it as the kids were all quite young but at least i didn't have to bother with child minders(the only plus in that situation)

yackerty congratulations on your good news.

hi to everyone else

I HATE NITS [ANGRY] teatree oil def' very good

mythumbelinas · 20/07/2006 14:45

hi ellesmum, my dds are with them. Older one doesn't seem to have much luck, younger one has (in my opinion) done really well so far.
I met another little girl who had just joined KL and at the mothercare shoot we did the other day, she was also booked for another job next week already. KL seem really good for babies and toddlers .. not heard much about older ones.

perfumelady · 20/07/2006 14:46
Angry
mythumbelinas · 20/07/2006 14:50

perfumelady .. 5 yrs of 9:00pm - 6:30am!!! Are you superwoman?? When i did some filming a couple months ago for a few days, i felt absolutely shattered!!

perfumelady · 20/07/2006 14:54

it was only three nights a week but you do get used to it, a part from eating a roast dinner or curry at three in the morning, but the money was fab (full time money for part time work) and the discount and staff shop was to good to give up, but i couldn't do it again now, now i work from home and have got extemely lazy, she says hanging head in shame.

mrratty · 20/07/2006 14:54

ellesmum - When DD did the mothercare shoot there was a little boy there who had been with them for only 2 weeks, and on most of her other jobs there have been children from KL. Deffienatley a good agency and very low fees no there is nothing to lose!!!

mrratty · 20/07/2006 14:59

Must now brave the heat and get DD from school, I really cannot cope with this weather!!!!1

mythumbelinas · 20/07/2006 15:03

same here, except i am a lazy cow. School is only 15mins walk up the road (And yep, uphill too) but i'm choosing to drive with air con as i can't walk and push buggy in this heat with the sun blaring down!!

ellesmum · 20/07/2006 15:35

thanks marrty and other mum cant remember your name, kids london mentioned i would have to pay £175 to go into their model book, did you do this? was it worth it as they said it was up to me and they would put her forward for work regardless?

mrratty · 20/07/2006 15:37

I am seriouslt annoyed now! A few days before DD joined B&B she had an assesment at another agency, I really didn't like them as she kept referring to DD as a money spinner so I didn't pay the fees and never contacted them again. A few minutes ago they rang me to say DD had a casting - I can't believe they kept her details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mrratty · 20/07/2006 15:43

ellesmum - I would see how things go, most people clients choose children by looking at the website as it is always up to date.

ellesmum · 20/07/2006 15:55

but when i asked kids london if elles pictures were on their website they said no the website pictures are only of kids that are in there model book, they are going to email her pictures to any client that reques her criteria.

mrratty · 20/07/2006 16:02

The children I met weren't in the model book as it was so expensive yet they still got work. The agency will do everything they can to promote your child as it's in thier interest.

lindac · 20/07/2006 16:20

sorry to change the subject but just got back from my dd's leaving assembly and im still blubbing it was brill they did dolls and guys (the boys the dolls and the girls the guys)
