RIght beside our car in the Parent and Toddler area there was a car parked.
There was a small boy hanging out the window (which was half rolled down so he was hanging over the glass)
Inside the car was a small girl (crying), a toddler and a baby.
4 children under 5 left alone in the car. Where were the parents?
She came out a few minutes later with a couple of pot noodles and a ready meal.
You know those moments when you feel like the worst parent in the world? Just think of that woman!!

lol 'couple of pot noodles and a ready meal' how 'mumsnet' !!Was she smoking, giving the baby formula Shockand have a see-through shopping bag!Grin

Chandra · 18/06/2006 20:21

I have seen a newly born strapped to her seat in a cabriolet car, alone, in the sun with the roof down while the mother went into the school to fetch her other kids. She did it in a regular basis.

vitomum · 18/06/2006 20:23

that is truly horrible. While i was at the ASDA checkout last week i saw a baby of no more than 9 months sitting in a buggy licking on a lollipop! - one of those hard, round, fluorescent red colour ones. His wee face was covered in red stickiness and i could almost feel his little teeth rotting and the sugar and e numbers coarsing through him. wanted to slap his mother Angry

NotAnOtter · 18/06/2006 20:24

vitomum - his growth was probably stunted he was really 17

dinny · 18/06/2006 20:25

Chandra, a few people at our school do this (rather than wake up the baby). The mother would probably be gone no more than 5 mins, you think?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/06/2006 20:26

NotAnOtter - just want to point out that I enjoy pot noodles and ready meals! But the fact that she left her kids alone for things like that was shocking. NOw if had been for a bottle of bucky and some fags it would be understandable!...

OP posts:
purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/06/2006 20:27

But dinny a lot can happen in 5 minutes,

Morrison's isn't very Mumsnet, though-should have been Waitrose, then it would be shocking Grin

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/06/2006 20:28

I'm not very 'Mumsnet' though.

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 18/06/2006 20:28

tissy - that simply would not happen!

SoupDragon · 18/06/2006 20:31

Do Waitrose sell Pot Noodles??

vitomum · 18/06/2006 20:34

what's the problme with just taking them into the supermarket? if they whinge just give them a sausage role. Obviously if they are less than 4 months it should only be grapes Smile

aragon · 18/06/2006 20:34

Oh tahnk God - I was so worried about this thread being something I had done myself - but I haven't. Nope - don't feel nearly such a crap parent now. Shocking though.

I am sure Waitrose don't sell Pot Noodles - far too downmarket for them.

aragon · 18/06/2006 20:36

... and must admit I hate taking my DS into a supermarket - if I had 4 I might be tempted to leave them behind (as this woman had done). Might also have eaten the Pot Noodle before coming back.

beansprout · 18/06/2006 20:36

As in she had just bought them or was giving them to her kids to eat?!!

edam · 18/06/2006 20:37

I can see the temptation rather than drag four children round the supermarket. But not something I'd ever do!

beansprout · 18/06/2006 20:39

Well, hey, we don't know the circumstances here - something awful could be happening in her life and she could be struggling to cope and so this was the best she could do today... but hey, let's all pile in and judge her shall we?!!!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/06/2006 20:46

So, she should be excused from putting her children in danger? Uh, no.
Did I mention that the boy was standing on the glass of the half opened window?

OP posts:
beansprout · 18/06/2006 20:48

I'm not saying it was a good thing, I'm just saying give her a break as you don't know the full picture.

vitomum · 18/06/2006 20:50

personally i enjoy judging. and as the woman concerned has no clue that i even exist i think it's pretty harmless.

aragon · 18/06/2006 20:53

True - we don't know the full picture. I can imagine if I was exhausted and needed a couple of quick items I might have been tempted to do the same. Whether I would actually do so or not I can't say as I'm fortunate enough not to be in this position.

aaronsmummy · 18/06/2006 21:00

Well last week a friend of saw a mum slap her baby for crying in Mothercare - the baby looked to be around three months old - can't believe it!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/06/2006 21:02

yeah cause pot noodle is one of those items that you NEED.

Some people just dont know how lucky they are, my 3 month old spent the first six weeks of her life on life support she had collapsed lungs and septicemia (Group B Strep) Drs wouldn't give me antibiotics coz i was having a C Section she was given a 5% chance of survival. She turned out to be my miricle baby. It makes me sick when I see people shouting at their newborns they should appreciate what they've got!
