.....ever leave Beddgelert?

Stunning place, wonderfuly kind people, brilliant campsite, perfect in every way except the midges! Grin

Your advive made the holiday perfect so Diolch Cariad! Slate mine in LLanberis is fantastic. Used my residual Welsh and was treated like minor royalty for giving it a go Grin

One question....how ever did you mangade not the put a hit out on the (now departed) Mnetter who said that Wales was shit? I was insulted, but now having seen where you grew up I would have expected you to utterly explode at the insult! Grin

Thanks again m'dear.....you really did make the holiday for us!

who slagged off Wales then? Was it DaddyCool?

JonesTheSteam · 03/06/2006 15:26

Who said Wales was shit?

Rhubarb · 03/06/2006 15:27

There've been so many Mumsnetters slagging off Wales I'm failing to pin down just one! Grin

Blandmum · 03/06/2006 15:28

Oh, it was ages ago. The poster said a load of stuff, then said she had not meant it but did it 'to show us what racism feals like' yer, right, and then went. It was all heated, and as I said ages ago. But I remember that MD and I were both involved in the spat.

Nothing wrong with Wales.

Dolfins and porpooses are quite nice too.

Rhubarb · 03/06/2006 15:29

Don't remember that! How rude!

Rhubarb · 03/06/2006 15:29

Well said SG!

spacecadet · 03/06/2006 15:29

who said wales is shit?? Ill have em!
beddgelert is lovely, always went there in the summer as a kid, gelerts story always used to make me cry!

JonesTheSteam · 03/06/2006 15:30

At the sake of starting up the argument again, was it \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1012&threadid=146615#3092057\this one}?

I was on it too.

spacecadet · 03/06/2006 15:31

i didnt realise moondog lived in beddgelert once. lucky so and so.

Rhubarb · 03/06/2006 15:35

Seemed a fairly tame thread to me. She apologised and it all ended peaceably! Not so the threads DaddyCool started on the Scots! Grin

LucyCampCat · 03/06/2006 15:37

Would have to agree Beddgelert is gorgeous, dd1 got a bit upset when we told her the story of Gelert though - sensitive soul!!

I'll defend it too!

JonesTheSteam · 03/06/2006 15:38

Rhubarb - agree but it was the only one I could think of. Maybe it was a different one and before my time.

Blandmum · 03/06/2006 15:43

gawd, I didn't want to stir up a ruccus! Grin

This was ages ago and IIRC the poster left MN. I can't even remember her name, I'm a bear of very little brain atm

I was just struck but how totaly beautiful that part of Wales is and how undetstandibly upset MD must have been. Goodness, I was annoyed and I come from the valleys.....proud of tem too, but they will never be called beautiful as such!

It was just a great holiday, and MD's local information made it all 10 time better for us as a family.

Hey MB - we were in LLanberis Thurs/Fri Grin Walked up Snowdon on Thursday (it was never a walk - dh virtually dragged me up the last bit, why must he go the hard way?) - the view was fantastic.

Blandmum · 03/06/2006 17:51

we didn't do the mountain as a,. the kids wouldn't manage it and b. I think it would have killed me. We did some riverside walks and that was about it. But totaly fantastic

moondog · 04/06/2006 09:41

Never lived in B'gelert SC,but my father is from there and parents have a house there after mnay years abroad.

moondog · 04/06/2006 09:43

And my most.....vigorous comment on that thread was deleted.
Pathetic.

WelshBoris · 04/06/2006 09:43

The thread is actually very much in praise of Wales. Apart from hockeymums comments but she went with her tail between her legs

Blandmum · 04/06/2006 09:44

day one , little train up to BF
day two, harlech castle, beach and then tea on the lawn at portmerion
day three, beddgellert itself, long walk down the river. Cracking pizza and icecream, and a stunning pint at the end of the walk! Grin
day 4, drive to llanberis, wonderful museum free and we all loved it, walk in the country park round the lake, drive to caernarvon, mooched about, went round the roman fort (ds doing romans atm!)

So fab to go to a place where welsh is spoken, ued my rudimentarty welsh and was treated to beaming smiles! Grin

massive BBQ on the last night, kids played in the stram, I fell in, ended up in a and e with a swuqshed finger (2nd day0 midge bites everywhere, but we all loved the place!!!

moondog · 04/06/2006 09:44

True
She was pretty...challenged however.
Anyway,who cares about HM?
I want to know about MB's holiday.

edam · 04/06/2006 09:46

Oh, Beddgelert is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Story of Gelert is horrible though. Not as bad as Welsh fairy tales though. Have often wondered why it is that they are all terrifying and miserable. Everyone comes to a very sticky end!

edam · 04/06/2006 09:47

My dad bought a children's version of the Mabinogion (sp?) for ds and it has stories that mirror Gelert's, only worse. Sad
